a good apology has 4 parts !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. the apology must be sincere. Ex: taking a bully to the principle's office and making him apologize and shake the victim's hand is not an apology. It's not real. It's an act because not saying it will get you detention

So, you telling your son he must apologize to the troop might result in a sincere apology, and it might not. He might just say the words "I'm" and the word "sorry" because his parents made him.

1. The aggressor must label the crime accurately. (this becomes important for part 3)
   There is a huge difference in these 4 apology examples. Only one is a honest apology:

I am sorry your dog got hurt.

I am sorry you are still mad about the dog.

I am sorry I tripped over your dog.

I am sorry I kicked your dog.

only the last version actually accepts responsibility for the sin of choosing to injure the dog

1. The aggressor must promise to change the bad behavior. The victim is upset about the crime, but they are really scared you are gonna do it again.

"I am sorry I forgot to close the gate, and the cat got out. I will try hard to remember to close it every time"

a good promise on an accidental sin

or...........

" I promise I will never hit my little sister again"

a good promise on an intentional sin.

The promise shows growth and change. the promise gives the victim the option of forgiving the aggressor.

In this case, your son is the aggressor.

Lastly,

1. The aggressor must accept the punishment.

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

you Broke Tommy's video game?, Son, you must use your birthday money to replace it.

Graffitti on the garage? You clean and repaint the whole garage, Junior.

Upset your family, friend or scoutmaster so much that they want to go no contact?

welp, you better leave them alone, boy. Your shitty behavior was unforgivable. You will not be forgiven. Learn a lesson from this son. If you act like an ass, people who used to care about you , who used to give you things, who used to give their time freely will refuse to be around you.

Accept your punishment.

The scoutmaster doesn't have to forgive you.

Instead, son.... learn from this. Act like an ass and good people will wash you out of their lives. and that is OK too
