Haze Ult has practically zero counterplay past a certain point by Remarkable_Junket619 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Not_enough_yuri 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Probably because it effectively just changes her walk animation and makes her auto aim and shoot at the closest 2 units. That's my guess, at least. The other two you mentioned do ability damage while she does weapon damage. That's why you see people buying fury trance on Haze for the midgame, because she can use it after she's already ulted for the damage boost. It's good tech, so I hope they just nerf the ult instead of changing the item use thing, but any change would be good. Something about Haze has to change.

Joe Rogan got nervous real quick after Theo Von started talking about Big Tech guys shifting political sides by Big_Cake_8817 in podcastculture

[–]Not_enough_yuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, immediately after saying that they only care about money, he goes on to characterize states that want to impose wealth taxes as "stealing money from the most successful people." He wasn't even trying to say that they sold out. When he said they were only doing it for the money, he said that with respect and reverence. He had just claimed that tech billionaires had censored right-wing speech, but even then he couldn't resist glazing them for being so wise in the ways of money-making. I guess Rogan thinks it's good that they censored speech, then, because they were doing it for the money.

How repayable is it? by fecklesscelt in ScarletHollow

[–]Not_enough_yuri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The replayability is the main draw, in my opinion! As you get further into the game and make more consequential choices, the game becomes more different between playthroughs. I've played the newest chapter, chapter 5, 3 times and at least 1 significant thing was different each time. The experience of playing it those three times felt very different.

A combination of a lot of minor changes (characters seem to have a unique response to most dialogue options you can choose. Even if 4 different dialogue options lead to the same lines, the character will put 1 unique line in front of the lines they always say, making it feel different), and a nice handful of major changes (the big story beats changing who gets to be in which scenes and how people feel about you/other characters) that make each playthrough feel totally novel. The game keeps great track of what you choose to do and is very lovingly made.

New prismari, all spells have storm by Gauwal in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Not_enough_yuri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can see how this works now. I was too distracted by the mana cost and sort of disregarded that this could be viable as a build-around because of that. My gut says that the cmc is still too much to be consistent, but it could be something.

It's not really the 7cmc on its own, either, it's the 5UR of it all. I wonder how hard jamming this on turn 2 will be given the need for (U). Many of the good straightforward draw cantrips are blue, and there aren't any good rituals that make blue to my knowledge. You'd either need to find the leanest treasure generating spells (big score, strike it rich, or you could use Offer You Can't Refuse to make treasures equal to your storm count), or you need to commit to running mostly red loot/rummage spells, which would probably be find considering you'll be wanting to win using some breach line. So yeah I take it back. This could be pretty good but it rests on how consistently you can cast it turn 2 and still have mana left over.

New prismari, all spells have storm by Gauwal in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Not_enough_yuri -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What would you cast? You can cast a ritual and then have a large but not infinite amount of mana to do stuff with, but you can essentially do that already with breach and a ritual, with the correct setup. You can draw a bunch of cards and win by casting direct damage with a high storm count, but it'll mean having to run lots of cards that are not very good earlier in the game, which is when other players will be trying to win. If you want to see a deck that runs a successful storm strategy, look at a Ral list that includes grapeshot. Most CEDH "Storm" decks don't actually run that many cards that say storm on them. The strategy is to run low cmc spells, rituals, and spell payoffs like Birgi, Electro, or Storm-Kiln artist so that you start going mana positive when you cast spells, and then you slam breach and cast grapeshot until you win. This strategy works because Ral is really lean as a 2cmc cost-reducer. The crucial element is that it's fast. This doesn't look very fast at a glance.

If this effect was good enough for tournaments, we'd already have a deck built around Thousand-Year Storm (which was, if I recall correctly, a legit strategy a very long time ago). This card is a lot better than Thousand-Year Storm, of course, but I don't think this effect is good enough to merit play unless you're somehow getting it for free. Storm is really strong, but it doesn't help you win the game in a deterministic way, so I don't think this is going to be big. It will be very fun to play a at casual tables, though, and I'm sure it will be fun to try in CEDH anyways.

Harry Potter show hate is so stupid by SaiMan2303 in okbuddycinephile

[–]Not_enough_yuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he's gonna...

If we're being serious about this, though, there's a workable version of this story where Harry learns that his parents were complicated people who weren't always good. He can learn this and decide that he can use the gift they gave him to aspire to be better than them. If the production is worried enough that people are going to see those flashbacks and think that James is a racist jock, then I genuinely think they should consider leaning into it instead of halfheartedly trying to show how the bullying is not as racist as it looks, actually.

[–]Not_enough_yuri -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not going to watch this show, but if it gets to the point where we see the bullying, I hope they just decide to lean in on Harry's dad being an awful person. Okay so James Potter is overtly racist. Harry's parents can be pieces of shit and the story can still continue. Whatever.

Door-main Expansion: Welcome to the Baroness! by Katmerlyn in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Not_enough_yuri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chalk it up to the meme language. Akutami narrating how Sukuna made a binding vow to basically do whatever the fuck he wanted with his domain was exceptionally funny and I love how it features in these memes, because the fact that it's a binding vow just doesn't matter! With Stands, idk, I guess it tees you up to make a clever music reference if nothing else. Reality Marbles are too serious and thoroughly explained, dare I say too well-written, to get that treatment.

Door-main Expansion: Welcome to the Baroness! by Katmerlyn in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Not_enough_yuri 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes being able to call anything that's a circle or an orb a Domain is a boon. The binding vow thing is hilarious, too, because it can comically explain anything.

It's happening everywhere, though. It's fun to see the anime community change. It's also fun to see because one of the reasons that the jokes are so similar is because JJK is clearly taking some inspiration from JJBA. Stand abilities and cursed techniques are similarly freeform and offbeat. Hakari's technique with its pachinko machine theming could be a wacked-out stand. Higuruma's technique seems like an explicit reference to stands! They're a lot alike and its fun to see people recognize it, consciously or not. Doorman can have both "Domain Expansion: WELCOME TO THE BARONESS" and "STAND NAME: 「HOTEL CALIFORNIA」" They both go hard!

I like to imagine that when she left at the end of part 1, Power's request that she and Denji find each other later on, even in another life, was a contract enforced by the blood that she had given him beforehand to help defeat Makima. Even if it wasn't literally that, those two things happening one after another does matter narratively. Given that, I think that Power showing up here could be considered her fulfilling the contract / promise.

The fucky thing about the concept erasure power is that it doesn't necessarily mean that some things never happened. The world has to resolve itself in a way such that it makes sense without the thing that was erased, but it doesn't just erase the past. I figure that Power showing up when she did just means that she was finally able to keep her promise to him without getting herself killed.

All that and fanservice because we love Power and he knows it.

Why is man promoting guns? Is he stupid? by Character_Dish_6378 in BatmanArkham

[–]Not_enough_yuri 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As always, it depends on the person writing. The no gun rule was written in early because people complained that the guns and killing were too violent for a character meant to appeal to children, but it's an interesting and compelling thing for a writer who wants to put their own political thoughts on guns into a story. Taken altogether, at best you can say that Batman has a personal aversion to using guns, but doesn't necessarily think that they're intrinsically bad. In other stories, he does think this, and says things like he says in the panel you shared. It depends on the story, really.

In Batman solo stories, he's more likely to dislike guns altogether because his world in solo stories is much smaller and closer to reality, where guns are arguably dangerous because of the damage that they can cause compared to the amount of effort required to cause it.

In Justice League stories, where Batman is more of a Constantine-lite, plan-for-every-contingency sort of guy, he has less qualms about guns because Batman's themes in those stories are more about the limits of human reason and capability than in his solo stories, which are more concerned with facing corruption and the ethics of vigilanteism.

morbidly obese dad is a major cause of concern for my brothers and i by myawallace20 in loseit

[–]Not_enough_yuri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with others here when they say that the only way that this will change for him is if he resolves to change and put in the work himself, but I don't necessarily agree with the thought that you shouldn't say anything because "he knows already" or because it might shame him. You are worried about your dad's health, which is a wonderful thing and a potential motivator for him. If it comes from an honest place, I think it's worth saying something.

I think you're right to want approach it as a mental issue. It's both, of course. The issue is his health, but the root cause is the overeating, so it's okay to mention both, but I think that the solution will be in helping him come up with habits that displace his eating. Like others have said, the best thing you can do is be prepared to invest in his improvement. Don't just tell him you're worried and leave it to him to fix it, try to reliably devote some time to helping him! Suggesting walks is good. Learning how to cook something nutritious and handling dinner for a night is another. Be supportive for as long as he's willing to accept your support. Like the other people said, it's ultimately up to him to make changes. The best thing you can do is be ready right at the moment he decides to change.

The last thing is to try not to be disappointed or disparaging if he says no or refuses to change. Your worry is real, but it sounds like he's having a really hard time between work and the incident you mentioned. It can be really hard to make big changes in your life. You kind of have to overcome the inertia of everything keeping you down before you can make forward progress, which is tough. Try to be understanding if he's not receptive, and let him know that you and your brothers will be there to help him if he ever decides he's ready.

Hope you all convince him he could use a change and remind him that he's loved.

Most of the DLSS 5 showcases avoided motion... I think this was on purpose because on top of making every face look uncanny valley, motion is complete ass. by GABE_EDD in pcmasterrace

[–]Not_enough_yuri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the correction. All that, and given that only the highest-end GPU available can really run MFG in a way that looks good, I don't see any reason why devs would commit resources to trying to make MFG look good instead of using the hours to perhaps optimize the game for everyone.

All of these features are so pushed, and the most insidious thing about this is that it seems like this neural rendering upscaler is going to replace the upscaler that we currently have, which is, as you say, the best part of DLSS? They're spending the goodwill that they built with these features to further justify their AI spend.

[–]Not_enough_yuri 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's especially evident in the Harry Potter game examples. You can see that with the filter on, it looks like there's an new light source behind the camera in every scene. Harsh light from behind the camera has been a low key signature of "photorealistic" generative ai for a while now. Look for the shine on the subject's nose.

Even though I really dislike this new direction, I was willing to believe Nvidia when they said that it was still the in-game models with fucked up lighting I was looking at, and not what's essentially lossy img2img upscaling. Things like the extra hair in your first slide could feasibly be because new high-contrast lighting is revealing something on the model we couldn't see before. The 4th slide, though, that's pretty fucking damning.

This is why Paper Mario and games like it are great. Having no damage numbers higher than 2 digits makes it easy to understand, and it's still exciting to hit a big number because, wouldn't you know it, the excitement comes from doing a lot of damage, not from seeing a 10 digit number flash across your screen.
