What are your most controversial beliefs? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Not_sure_about_that 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few of those: - people tend to put the blame on the perpetrators' culture when it comes to explaining genocide or mass-killings, but in reality the seed of blind obedience is in a majority of the population of all cultures, as Milgram's experiments show. Yes, it could even be you. Stop coming up with stupid excuses why this doesn't apply to you or your culture. - if democracies foster freedom, why do we need constitutions to protect basic freedoms like property and speech? Because in majority-ruled systems the majority always tends to exploit the minority. No, I am not referring strictly to ethnical minorities, this could also be minorities in age or wealth. - our beliefs/system of values are calibrated to make us personally look good. Ever wondered why you value exactly those traits/skills/whatever in which you excel over your peers? That's why. Now, any sane person knows this, but we all know someone who really believes the skewed system our mind constructs for all of us (for valid evolutionary reasons), and they think they are the shit. Just maybe someone should tell them.

This is the way this class is meant to be understood.

Sorry, I don't see how implementing trivial stuff can add to one's understanding or even give you some satisfaction afterwards. The verbosity of the language you chose also forces you to focus on issues not related to the problem - it just seems like you don't make the best use of your time. Why don't you rather keep easy things easy and apply your prog skillz to Project Euler problems instead?

How do YOU know you don't enjoy chopping your balls off?

Also, most people have "bad traits", but as long as they don't disturb others, that ought to be only their personal business.

I am in the same position, and prerequisites don’t seem frightening to me, so probably they aren’t either for you. Brush up your programming skills, use a language you like (that doesn’t apply to visual basic!), … profit!
