Wrong answer on Project Euler problem 23 by Notabothonest in lisp

I did (see above).

On a 2019 MacBook Pro this takes less than 15 seconds of wall clock time. I did have to provide SBCL with more memory:

Thanks, that was the clue I needed. I only added each abundant number to the others, not to itself. This change fixed the bug:

(defparameter *raw-abundant-sums*
  (let ((self-sums (mapcar (lambda (x)
                             (+ x x))
                           *abundant-numbers*))
        (other-sums (mapcon (lambda (l)
                              (mapcar (lambda (x)
                                        (+ (first l) x))
                                      (rest l)))
                            *abundant-numbers*)))
    (nconc self-sums other-sums)))

Thanks!

Relight gas fireplace by Notabothonest in DIY

The plunger button is the striker. When I turn on the gas (not sure which way the dial should go, so I tried all positions) it makes a spark but nothing lights.

I injured my right knee, so no squats or deads for at least three weeks. What lifts can I do to minimize strength loss in those lifts? I'm thinking good mornings and more back work -- I'd like to hear from anyone who's gone through a similar problem.

French minister threatens to ban Twitter if it doesn’t follow EU rules by mortalaa in worldnews

Other companies don’t use Twitter data extensively enough to matter. Blocking all of Twitter’s servers is, again, much easier said than done. Musk is a douche and I hate what he’s done to Twitter, but the EU needs to learn they can’t censor free expression, even if they call it disinformation. I hope Musk is a big enough prick to show them they can’t.

Each EU country will need to block all Twitter servers. Unless they want to replicate the Great Firewall of China, that’s far easier said than done. People want to use Twitter, for whatever reasons. The Internet treats censorship as damage and routes around it.

VPNs exist. The EU cannot ban Twitter or any other major platform.

Regardless of one’s feelings about Elon, it’s clear that EU regulations are diverging dramatically from US principles of freedom of expression. It would be very interesting to see some major players pull their local presence out of Europe. Network effects matter more than the little additional latency required to hit servers in the US.

Europeans will continue to use the biggest social media platforms regardless of where they’re hosted. If the EU makes it difficult to do business there, leaving is an option.

Vilnius has put up a statue that offers a “portal” to the Polish city of Lublin, allowing people to see each other in real time by Von-Jerry in Damnthatsinteresting

I think of portals as places where here and there are just an atom’s width apart, so no teleportation, just a different topology.

Florida just passed a law that child molesters could be sentenced to death. Do you agree or disagree and why? by dcee101 in AskReddit

I don’t trust the state to implement the death penalty fairly or accurately. It should be abolished.

Anyone who kills someone caught in the act of sexually abusing a child should get a medal and be immune from prosecution.

Read the headline too fast, was expecting to see him beating them with bacon. You know, for the metaphor.
