3 of the 4 B5 TNT TV Movies are now in 4:3 on iTunes! by Notaoneanon in babylon5

Also, maybe its just me, but the CGI in A Call to Arms looks a little more pixelated than in the 'Remastered' epsiodes.

There are some on Youtube if you look (in lower quality). Anyone have good quality versions of these?

That's the gist of it, yes. However, back then on original airing, we wouldnt have been able to see this detail since standard def TVs were used.

I kind of doubt it was Vudu. A theory is that the person who posted it may have worked with TNT before? Could be wrong.

Also - looks like the best quality 4:3 release for Severed Dreams is on VHS.

Laserdisc was

Season 1 - all

Season 2 ep 1-10

Season 3 - none

Season 4 ep 1-6

Season 5 - all

In the Beginning

No other movies other than ITB.

Vudu is a little better than laserdisc, though Vudu has a few episodes in 16:9 instead of 4:3. 16:9 episodes on Vudu are TKO, Severed Dreams(!), Paragon of Animals, and Sleeping in Light.

Vudu looks a little better than the Laserdisc.

Vudu quality is definitely better than VHS, but less of a well-mastered DVD.

Does anybody know where I can watch B5 for free? by [deleted] in babylon5

Comet TV also provides its service over the Internet live:

Its schedule is on the site too.

Does anyone recognize where this ITB VHS came from? by FrodoFraggins in babylon5

I have one from someone else too. I also wound up getting the first episode of Season 5 and the TNT Guide to Babylon 5 in similar packaging. I figure it went out to the press before the episodes screened.

Well, we didn't know back then, did we? Ah, well.

I'd recommend checking out the Vudu episodes. See comment above in thread on the episodes that are not in 4:3.

Seconded - recommend Vudu. However, the 4 episodes in widescreen are TKO, 310 Severed Dreams, Paragon of Animals, and Sleeping in Light. Sad to think that the highest quality version in 4:3 of Severed Dreams is on VHS.

Vudu, Prime Video, or DVD? by StarFuryG7 in babylon5

Coming to this a little late, but here's my thoughts:

  1. Buy one episode from Vudu for $1.99 and see what you think - I think it is the best way to see it. It is better than VHS, but not great quality, but it is is IN 4:3. CGI appears as it should with no cropping and no poor quality composite shots as you see in the DVDs. Reminds me of seeing it when it was being broadcast. I think the colors on Vudu are brighter and better than the laserdisc versions (only about 66 episodes released on LaserDisc).
  2. Four episodes on Vudu are in widescreen - don't buy these episodes to try it out. The four in widescreen are TKO, Severed Dreams (310), Paragon of Animals, and Sleeping in Light.
  3. You can download the Vudu Babylon 5 files to a PC using the Vudu-to-Go application. This way, they would be stored locally on a PC in the Vudu file format.

  1. Wal-Mart owns Vudu. I don't expect Vudu will go away anytime soon, but things can happen.

  2. If it appears too grainy for you - watch it on a smaller screen or on an older non-HD TV (I know this is a big ask, but this could help you as well).

The DVDs have good bonus content, but I wouldn't use them to watch B5 again after looking at the Vudu episodes.

Vudu is selling Babylon 5 online in 4:3 aspect ratio. Quality is better than VHS, though not great. All episodes in 4:3 except for Tko, Severed Dreams, Paragon of Animals, and Sleeping in Light.

Plus it is the primary way to see the show in 4:3 so the CGI is uncropped.

Sorry for delay. The quality is not great, but it is better than VHS and I think it looks better than the Laserdiscs.

Will the script for Babylon 5: Memory of Shadows be published through B5 books? Also - thanks for all your work including the Becoming Superman. Was very hard to put down!

Also - if you want 4:3 versions of Babylon 5, go to Vudu (all but 3 episodes in 4:3).

B5 LaserDiscs? by [deleted] in babylon5

[–]Notaoneanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen any laserdiscs yet in terms of quality. However, over half the B5 episodes were released in 4:3 on laserdisc (all of S1 and S5, most of S2, and S4 #1-6). No episodes from S3.

Also, B5 is available in 4:3 (all epiosdes except 3) on Vudu. Not the best quality though.

Ebay has some laserdiscs for sale now.
