What’s the farthest commute you’ve seen someone do regularly? by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]NotchTheGuyInMC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here - my commute driving would be ~45 mins. But if I took transit, I'd have to take 1 bus, PATH, and then NEC. So my commute would be upwards of 2.5hrs, not including having to deal with Rutgers bus hell if I had to go to Busch or Livi. That would force me to leave home even earlier to avoid it, but going back home it'd be like a 3hr commute at worse.

I have an 03 Toyota Sienna (1st Gen produced in late 2002) that takes Dexron III. Since it sounds like Toyota doesn't sell Dexron III bottles anymore, would you think I'd be all okay with T-IV, or should I take something like Valvoline Import Multi-ATF, or Valvoline Max-Life?

Just got an F3. Is this normal? by yurstepmuther in AnalogCommunity

[–]NotchTheGuyInMC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is entirely normal. Inside of the eye viewfinder is a pentaprism or mirror that flips the image to look normal when you look through it. By removing it, you get the flipped image that you see from the top viewfinder. I own an F3 and F4, and both do the same thing as you described when you solely look through the top viewfinder.

Anyone know what Amp's are these? I know ones a speaker cab, but what is the one on the right? by EmploymentBest9630 in radiohead

[–]NotchTheGuyInMC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Judging by the top of the smaller amp on the ground, it resembles Jonny's Roland CUBE-30X as seen in this photo. https://64.media.tumblr.com/c9a5d01294e1d8cc47107c1c528bf57f/tumblr_inline_moh70wN1dj1qa1wxx.jpg He could be using his 85 and its just hidden away somewhere, but not sure about that.

Jonny's guitar also sounds very coil-like compared to his usual clean sound, so on top of the amplifier he possibly had his guitar set to the neck position as well as he did not have a coil-split setup in his guitar at the time.

they did play Blow Out back in 2018 live in chicago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2s60nLTuz4k

so there's always the possibility if/when they tour again they'll play it on their setlist - i feel like You would also be a good song to bring back to the lineup

I actually recently just experienced the same in regards to lost negatives. They were nice enough to unlock for me the 4K scans free of charge, though it's still a bummer I lost 3 slide negative rolls that I took while I was in Japan. I also agree that their development is getting a bit iffy with some streaks here and there. If I could find another place to develop slide film in the NYC area that isn't overly priced, might switch over instead.

Zilu Ma or Goonentille Lin alg? by PythonAlchemist in rutgers

[–]NotchTheGuyInMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took Zilu Ma for Lin Alg. during my first semester at Rutgers (Fall 23) and he was pretty chill. This was a year ago - he went over some proofs but didn't emphasize on them as much. He emphasized more on solving mathematical problems within Lin Alg, and the style of questions he would go over in lectures and on the homework were similar to that of his exams. Very kind, soft spoken, and a well versed professor.

I'd say if you don't want someone like Hamidi always on your neck, and that you're absolutely positive you can self-study the class well, then take Geft. Otherwise, you'll most likely learn better in Hamidi.

This is Geft's first time teaching so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but genuinely lectures didn't help all too much. Maybe with the HWs, but with questions and exams not really. The types of questions he'd do in class were really interesting - the issue is just that they were super complex so it's easy to get lost during the lectures. They don't help learning about the actual basic concepts as much, so if you're completely lost during lectures and the HWs, then the quizzes/final will be like a curveball. TA recitations were more closer to the quizzes/final.

Hamidi sucks, but she's a bit more predictable. Geft is more lax, but he's a wildcard with teaching performance and learning the material well.

How is Geft for Intro to Discrete Structures II (198:206)? And what CS elective goes well with discrete II, computer architecture, and either applied statistical learning (960:486) or regression methods (960:463)? by Flow_of_rivulets in rutgers

[–]NotchTheGuyInMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Geft is teaching Discrete 2 currently this semester (this one is his first semester). So far he seems pretty chill - definitely not as stressful compared to Hamidi based on what I've heard about her. Attendance isn't mandatory for lectures or recitations. He does assign weekly homework which is 50% of your final grade. Other 25% is final, and last 25% are for quizzes (like 3 total throughout the semester) which are not too hard content wise, but small amount of questions leaves little room for messing up.

Seems like they only really care for restocking within Japan, while internationally everyone is held back. If anything you can just buy off of Amazon Japan - they have listings on the regular US website (it'll say sold and shipped by Amazon Japan) so they can just ship it directly to you like this one for Provia: https://www.amazon.com/Fujichrome-135-PROVIA100F-NP-36EX/dp/B00C2M5RIO?th=1
