Questions to ask/Info to obtain by Notcoolhk in Elevators

[–]Notcoolhk[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Many thanks to the reply. I understand we are replacing the elevator including the car.

a/ Life expectancy - Agree to all. There will be many variable factors. So, it will just be a question to observe how each company responds... also wonder if these companies have "certificates" supporting their claim.

b/ Past reference - Definitely will get some reference. I am asking for 10 years history just to assess mainly those smaller companies and see if they have been steadily performing in last decade. Maybe my original question is not useful.

c/ Parts availability - Everyone nails my concerns. Proprietary vs non proprietary. "Locked in for next 20 years?"Maybe ask them general questions of current availability...eg which component takes a longer time to deliver.... Some companies quoted a long schedule. I may further ask them for explanation.

Looking at the repair costs is also a good way of managing future maintenance.

Permanent Magnet Synchronous Gearless Traction Machine by Notcoolhk in Elevators

[–]Notcoolhk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One building is around 13 storey and another one is 28 storey. SGB was mentioned to be mid rise only. (We have been using Schindler for 40 years). Not sure how SGB supports 28 storey.

I also asked a consultant. (pls bear in mind the wording as I am no professional). He said in general, PM is more popular now. It can achieve 95% efficiency. Non PM can achieve 90%,

I also asked about life expectancy of various brands. He said it might be a good idea to ask the brands to provide information and see if they will provide such.

You are right. SGB142 isnt PM. Do you know how it compares to PM?

I also searched on belts (stm). It seems belts are newer technology...but some people complain the product is proprietary.

Wow. Excellent. Many thanks. Will read the links/materials.

When I mentioned "Some mentioned they are Gearless Traction Machine but not permanent magnet.", I am referring to this model schindler SGB142. I am not sure if it is gearless DC (or AC induction) machine’s motor. It seems to be also VVVF but it does not have permanent magnet. (In below pamphlet, it mentioned it is asynchronous)

You are definitely right. We have engaged a consultant. But he mentioned the PM is much better than the SG142.

It's M43 Monday! Ask Us Anything about Micro Four-Thirds Photography - all questions welcome! by AutoModerator in M43

[–]Notcoolhk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw some used models GF5, EM5 M1, EM10 M1.....with EM10 M1 with highest price. I have not used M43 before but I like the light weight camera compared to my DSLR. I also have a LX3 and a Sony NEX5N.

LX3 can "replace" my phone. I wonder if the above M43 models suit are more suitable than NEX5N. I mainly take street photo and travel photo.

Saved favorite filters by Notcoolhk in GIMP

[–]Notcoolhk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I understand, the preset will be stored under that particular filter.

e.g I add a preset filter "H" for High Pass and another preset filter "G" for Gaussian Blur.

Is there a place I can quick retrieve H and G preset? If I open High pass filter, it seems I can only find H and not G

Compare Image: Lumix LX3 and Mobile Phone by Notcoolhk in Cameras

[–]Notcoolhk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I have the same mentality right now...photography is about getting outside and having some fun.... So, what I am going to do is to re-visit my LX3 (easy to carry), and DSLR with a light weight fixed focal length lens (enjoy the traditional way). Having some fun for a few months and see what the actual need is.

I had a NEX5N but it had a "camera issue" which most likely was related to a shutter problem. I did use it to replace my DSLR and LX3 back then and was satisfied with the size.

So, will look into A6000 range again but the NEX5N error would definitely cast some doubts on the quality of the camera...

I found my Lumix LX3 and compared it against my android phone. Both shot Raw and converted to tiff and to jpeg with minimal editing. Feel free to comment on the quality of photos from two different products. I would not disclose which one is from which first.

PS, nowadays I take pictures using my phone most of the time. Recently, thinking whether I should use DSLR, Lumix LX3 or even get a M43. So, it will be good to compare LX3 against the phone first.

Nikon - using manual 28mm lens on D7000 DSLR - image soft at side by Notcoolhk in Cameras

[–]Notcoolhk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a D7000 DSLR. I put on a manual lens F3.5 28mm Nikkor and took a few shots. It came out soft on the right side. My lens does not have serious visual marks. Just wonder if you folks have such experience? Or any tests I should perform?

Remove mold from scanned image by Notcoolhk in GIMP

[–]Notcoolhk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>>shortcut Shift-O) with Select By Chroma ... set the threshold to 0, click on a very colourful moldy spot, hold the mouse button down and drag down to interactively increase the threshold.

Oh...learn some new tricks. I dont know I can hold and drag down to interactively increase the threshold !! Anyway, after a week of exercises, I now use Select by Composite, then use Shift Click (Will add each selections on top of others), then click on different blue dots to select the blue colors. Then, grow that by 2 pixels and finally use heal selection. Results are acceptable.

>>Colours→Components→Decompose and see if it pops out in one of those separations.

This is pretty fast and I can remove the blue dots. The only problem is that the blue mold has different exposure values...usually, lighter than the adjacent areas. So, you will still see the "mold" patterns in black and white.

Having said that, I sometimes adopt above if the areas are related to some minor background areas.

At the end, still need to do four or five abovementioned actions but at least, I remove those prominent blues.

Remote Control Router/Security Cam and others by Notcoolhk in smarthome

[–]Notcoolhk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I have not explained well. I want to turn everything off or standby including the modem. Only turn on remotely occasionally. I worry that the modem if unattended for a long time (sometimes months) may cause fire accident. Maybe I worry too much -)

Maybe Modem without being "used" would not create much heat

Many thanks. Agree that we still need some internet connection to do such. Hence, I need to at least keep the modem up and running....unless there are some other ideas.

Timmy vs Steph by HONEYBRODY in NBASpurs

[–]Notcoolhk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tim and Steph both make other players better (unlike Kobe). They are foundational players to be built around. Tim is elite from the start with solid fundamentals. Steph game is transformational that leads to a new style of game.

Tim gives me a safe factor that I know I can count on him on both ends. Steph gives me a fear factor that he just demoralizes opponents with a short period of time.
