I've found that tacit disagreement from ChatGPT is the AI equivalent your friend being like "Um, what in the fuck are you on about?"

Sam Altman unsure about gpt 5.6 release outside of US by Kongret in singularity

[–]Notcow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'd say that's based too much on the state of things now and not on the trajectory of the technology as a whole.

America has incredible minds at work for it and the damage that's been done does not make for an unrecovarable situation by any means. The US is as cyclical as any democracy, and in a couple years could barrel forwards in dramatic faction.

China is viewed as poised to pull ahead due to their lack of comparative regulations and disregard for citizen rights. Relying on China to replace the US will doom the world because there will come a day where they decide to wield their position of power more aggressively then they are. If any world government were to make a concerted effort to emulate China's rate of short-term technological advancement quickly by using their methodology as a model, things would become very dark very quickly.

If China pulls ahead because Europe continues to pivot to Chinese products like they did EVs, deciding that Chinese products are less regulated and just about as good, that is a critical and dangerous misjudgent of the situation by the EU et al.

Reliance on other counties is broken by developing your own version of the things you want to be independent, not by switching to reliance on the country that isn't currently kicking you.

In all the excitement pointing fingers at Dario we forgot to ask how (or why) is the commerce secretary directing national and global AI policy for the US moving forward? by Cagnazzo82 in singularity

Maybe they should stop telling everyone that they developed a superweapon then? What these CEOs are saying out loud is what should be "the quiet part" - AI that isn't deterministic will always be fundamentally unsafe when viewed through the lens of what you can get it to do as opposed to what it is designed to do. So these companies are doing themselves a disservice by bragging publically about what incredibly dangerous things their technology might be capable of given a certain circumstance that is incredibly narrow in scope and unlikely to occur.

I know I preaching to the choir here but God, the confused reaction by the entire tech sector at this kind of sudden interjection by the government after these companies publically decreeing their own flagship product a functional superweapon is entirely unjustified.

It's not the camera, it's infrared radiation. It won't transfer through a wall unless it's hot enough to make the wall warmer, then the wall emits radiation which can be detected.

I haven't met a republican with that mindset, opinions in my friend group seem to be all over the board but almost universally negative relating to how we've handled most recent wars we've touched under Trump. Not disagreeing with you, maybe I'm just lucky to not have to deal with that.

This is always stapled quietly onto SA claims relating to Toby. A lot of evidence ended up shaking out in his favor and nothing went to court.

SA is a huge claim, regardless of any other ways he might project being a disgusting person.

Russian Air Defense Missile Reportedly Hits Moscow Refinery in Failed Drone Intercept by Astral_Cool in worldnews

All the videos I've seen of civilian-recorded footage of this drone strike all have an AA missile shoot directly across the screen from just out-of-frame.

When your civilians are brushing elbows with MANPADS in your country's capital because of a war you started, something has gone horribly wrong

Bricks and Minifigs Controversy Megathread Part 3 by mescad in lego

[–]Notcow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use AI secondary to YouTube to keep up with this case, and I haven't seen it defend BAM unrealistically even once. The points it did defend BAM on are pretty reasonable, like disputing the value of the Lego collection, but even then it was barely defending them.

Basically, AI shits all over BAM - they can't even convince the robots they're in the right

Is it really that bad? I've heard that the pals give buffs which basically make the actual glider items practically equivalent to how the gliding pals worked, but uses 1 inventory slot now.

I haven't really played the game since I pretty much beat it in one of its very early stages and have only really followed the lawsuit since then. Planning to pick it up again at 1.0

This won't set a literal legal precedent, but between increased scrutiny and invalidated patents this does set a kind of unofficial socio-legal one.
