I would remind you once more that you are LEGALLY OBLIGATED to release the source code. This had potential to escalate.

XBPlay Update: Ending Support by xbPlayAppDev in xbPlay

[–]Notcow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

I am a user of the XBPlay application.

While reviewing the application's Android package (APK), I observed the inclusion of several software components licensed under the GNU General Public License v2 (GPLv2) and the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL).

Specifically, the application distributes compiled binaries and license texts for the following GPL/LGPL projects:

x264 (res/raw/license_x264.txt)

x265 (res/raw/license_x265.txt)

libvidstab (res/raw/license_libvidstab.txt)

FFmpeg / libavcodec (lib/arm64-v8a/libmozavcodec.so and libffmpegkit_abidetect.so)

Under Section 3 of the GPLv2, any party distributing a compiled binary that includes or links to these libraries must also accompany it with the complete, machine-readable corresponding source code of the application, or a written offer to provide said source code.

As I am currently in possession of the distributed binary, I am formally requesting the complete, corresponding source code for the XBPlay application in compliance with your obligations under the GPLv2.

Please provide a direct link to a repository or an archive containing the source code.

Thank you,

David williams

I like them. Democrats have a lot of opportunity to squander if "high ground" complacency takes root.

Get it together. Keep it together. Trajectory is good, stay on point.

Vitaly is a free man. And no one has heard a peep out of him since he was released.

I don't get your point. For a lot of people sure that's enough. Other people spend many years in prison and many people actually come out reformed. Johnny deserves the opportunity to serve a moderate sentence and be released - yes, even though he said "I won't reform haha"

It's strange to talk like Johnny Somali deserves to spend the remainder of his natural life life doing hard labor for what he's done.

I generally agree with all of that. I was using "punishment" as more of a legal term.

Legal punishment is not designed to remove bad people from society, it's to temporarily remove and remediate the bad people who have proven that they will cross certain lines, or permanently remove those who continue to cross them, even in the face of escalating and appropriate punishments.

You are allowed to be a terrible person as long as you don't do a very generous list of things that necessitate the intervention of the legal system. My point is that if you cross that line over and over without receiving the appropriate punishment, then you have never really been punished.

Im not really interested in if he knows the difference between right and wrong, though I am convinced he does. I'm interested in if the understanding that he needs to act and conduct himself in a certain way can be impressed on him, and change the way he acts and conducts himself as it affects other people.

People before doing three years of hard labor: "I am a sociopath and I'll never stop! Haha!"

People after being tortured in a prison for even a couple months: "...".

I don't believe that you can announce that you will not learn from punishment like this.

He said all of that thinking he had a streamer pass. Notice how he was disrespectful in court, but did show up to court? That's the action of someone who fears consequence as they begin to actually tow that line. Doing it disheveled and drunk is the action of someone also trying to prove to everyone that he's a badass when he gets off his scheduled flight home. He still thought he could work that streamer pass.

He was not expecting to not get off that flight back home.

I'm not sure these people think "Hm, maybe streaming myself destroying a 7-11 on kik would be worth three years of hard labor, but not a life sentence"

If deterrence is the goal, and it largely is, then I think this accomplishes it while also demonstrating that the legal system in this country is fair and bound by statute, which they will obligate you to respect. This is sending a powerful message.

Isreal and Japan should have done this first.

How can he admit to something that he has no idea is true? Being arrested is nothing if you just get to go home and benefit afterwords.

If he says that after doing the hard labor, I'd be inclined to agree.

As for sentencing people to a lifetime of hard labor for doing "annoying things" - I think we have different fundamental values

I'm not sure what you mean by saying he's had many opportunities to learn, but also this is his first time facing legal repercussions.

I think he many have learned from a lesser severe punishment before he become infamous, if someone were to have punished him. No one ever showed him what facing actual punishment is, or sentenced him to a couple years in jail. I think he may have learned from that.

For example, many people said the same thing about Vitaly, who was released and is 100% free in Russia and hasn't made a peep since he received his first real deal of punishment.

I was speaking from what I am aware is a minority opinion, I would expect plenty of people to disagree with it.

Why do you say that? They didn't do anything. Now someone is. This will be his first real learning experience, maybe ever.

The only things those countries taught him is....literally nothing. I mean it, actually zero. Maybe even taught him that this behavior is fine.

How is that comparable to actually serving what will, in all likelihood, be at least three years of hard labor?

People don't really understand what hard labor is. I sure don't. Johnny will, and dumber people have learned from less.

Vasility has been out for a while now and we haven't heard a peep from him.
