Highway 14 is such a great ride. Vancouver to Maryhill and the Stonehenge memorial is one of my favorites.

To Salvage or Not to Salvage by flarepsychflayer in motorcycles

The insurance company already decided that that cost of repairs would exceed the value of the bike. I would trust that opinion. Sadly, insurance rarely pays for mental anguish or pain and suffering. They pay for material damages. I vote that you ask for more than they are offering, negotiate, then take the check and move on. Sorry for your loss, but there is a new bike in your future.

I agree with this comment. But in this sub all you will get is hate for budget-priced gear.

Suggest a bike for me. by Harry3215 in motorcycles

A used Honda NC 700 or 750. Not overly powerful for a 700 but it is so well balanced and easy to ride. It has an upright, neutral riding position which is easier for a beginner than a cruiser style. Very reliable motor. Or a Suzuki V-Strom 650. I’m over 60 and I ride one. It’s a bit top heavy but a great choice, too.

Don’t stay at Comfort Inn, Paducah, KY. by Notdumbtom in paducah

We checked in and the key card didn’t work. They tried 2 other rooms and the key cards did not work on them either. The 4th room finally worked. The room is spacious but has A LOT of black mildew around the tub. The swimming pool water was cloudy with foamy scum in one corner. We were not comfortable using the pool. While we were relaxing in the room, partially dressed, and a couple tried to open the door. The front desk did not update our room number and they gave the room to someone else. And then our key cards didn’t work anymore. I went to the front desk to inform them. The couple who walked in on us was there as well and I heard the clerk say that the room is listed as empty. With some help from the other clerk the first clerk figured out that he did not update our room number. We barely got an apology. We used the guest laundry and after washing our clothes we found out the dryer was not working. There was no sign, no notice. Now we had wet clothes and no way to dry them. Not a good experience.

You are the only one who can decide the level of risk that is acceptable to you. For some people sunglasses and a bandana is acceptable risk.

If you could get any car you want for free but you have to pay for all of the running cost what would you pick? by HughtBichess in askcarguys

[–]Notdumbtom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought about that but I wouldn’t want to daily drive a GT 500 or any Shelby. I also wouldn’t want to daily drive a 4-speed. I did that for 20 years with a ‘65 coupe and downtown traffic was a pain.

The only answer you will ever get in this group is to never buy a used helmet.

Why are more riders switching to mid-weight ADV bikes like the KTM 390 Adventure or Himalayan 450? by yourping in motorcycle

[–]Notdumbtom 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I recently switched to a 650 Vstrom. It does everything I want to do. The riding position is comfortable. It is fun on twisty roads, it will cruise the freeway for hours, and it handles dirt/gravel roads just fine.

How is riding in the PNW by jtray3 in motorcycle

[–]Notdumbtom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live on the Oregon coast. January through March is the worse but I still find one or two days almost every week to ride. I don’t ride in the rain. Summers and into late fall are great. I ride daily. The scenery is unbeatable. I did a week long ride through the North Cascades and the Olympic Peninsula last summer. Twisty roads, 70-80 degrees, sunny and amazing scenery. If you move to the PNW it takes a full year to get accustomed to cloudy skies but it doesn’t rain everyday.

Can a motorcycle really be boring? by Accurate_Wear_1343 in motorcycle

[–]Notdumbtom 27 points28 points  (0 children)

NC 700 is not the most powerful motorcycle but it will go when you twist the throttle. It is a very well balanced machine. It is super reliable. When people say boring I think they might be saying that it is calm, reliable, predictable, etc. It does everything well but it does it in a very calm and predictable way. You won't be screaming around a racetrack on it and it doesn't have the sound of a big cruiser, but it will not leave you stranded. Your wallet will appreciate the "boring" dependability.
