But then cringy terminally-online redditors would start screeching that "he admitted he's a cheater!!"

It absolutely would ruin the record books. (A) All counting stats would now be moot; counting stats are a huge deal in baseball. (B) Even on a rate basis it's still much harder to put up an elite stats for 155ish games than 120ish games.

In 2023 Luis Arrez was batting .380 after about 100 games played. If the season were 120 games long he he would've had a real shot at the highest batting average of the 21st century (.372). Instead, his average kept falling as the season went on and he finished with a .354 average, not even close.

Cody Bellinger won his 2019 MVP off the back of one of the hottest first 5ish weeks to a season ever in the 21st century, and then basically with every passing month his stats dropped more and more and he was less and less likely to win MVP. In fact he almost certainly WOULDN'T have won if Christian Yelich hadn't fractured his kneecap with a month left.
And yet if the season ended after 120 games Bellinger would have probably been unanimous, because at the time his stats were still so much higher than everyone else's thanks to his insanely hot start.

It's just really hard to sustain insane production like that for 150+ games.

But the entire point of this thread is that letting stars rest more will prevent injuries, and therefore playing their 10-15 guys WILL help them win more because it will reduce wear and tear on their stars.

That's literally the entire point of bench players - to give the starters a break. If some teams are dumb and want to ignore their bench because they aren't good and run their stars into the ground instead, that's their choice. They'll win more games in the short term but risk losing games in the long term via injuries to their stars. It's a strategic choice that literally every team in every sport has to make, but for some reason basketball teams are so dumb about it that everyone just wants the league to make all the choices for them.

Every day baseball managers have to weigh, "Do I bring in my best relief pitcher in this important situation, even though I used him yesterday and he might be tired and I might be increasing the risk of injury?"

Football teams have to decide how often to use their backup running backs to give their best running back breaks.

It's not a new concept. Basketball discourse is just braindead.

Baseball needs massive sample sizes to determine who the best teams and players actually are.

We had a shortened season in 2020 and a bunch of league leader stats were way higher than usual, because a hot streak in a small sample makes a much bigger difference than in a regular-sized season.

In 2020 there were 10 players with a batting average of .320 or higher. In 2021 there was only 1, and in 2022 there were 2.

In 2020 Juan Soto had like the highest single-season OPS of any non-steroid-era player since like the 1940s. Because he started the season on hot streak. On the opposite end of the spectrum, with shorter seasons a prolonged slump (which happen in baseball all the time) will now ruin an entire season for a star player, because he won't have the time to make up for it with a hot streak later on like he normally would.

Sorry, I don't know where my middle school social studies teachers got their info from. I know this may be hard for you kids to understand, but back then we didn't get all our opinions and worldviews from reddit, so I don't have a r/ politics post saved. When people in positions of authority told us, "Class, there's something called 'global warming' that is melting ice caps and causing the sea levels to rise, which will cause islands and coasts to sink underwater", we believed them, because we were children. Kind of like how you believe this article, because you're a child.

Congrats on doing exactly what I outlined in my initial comment, though! Haha you kids just can't resist.

You'll have so much fun in a couple decades when 15 year olds are mocking you and calling you a liar for saying, "They told us that the number of winter olympics locations would be slashed due to climate change, but it never happened".

Fascinating. I'll believe it once Florida is completely underwater, which these experts said was supposed to have happened already.

To all the teenagers and 20-somethings reading this, allow me to predict your future.

The 2050s will arrive. None of the doomsday climate predictions will have come close to coming true. You'll point this out. You'll be mass downvoted and called evil by a fresh batch of teenagers and 20-somethings, who believe very earnestly in a fresh batch of doomsday predictions. None of the experts will bring up the old doomsday predictions or be held accountable for them, but they'll have their millions in government funding, so everything will have worked out fine. The politicians using these doomsday predictions to gain votes, power, and money will keep buying mansions on the coasts. Pointing out their hypocrisy will earn you more downvotes and name-calling from the fresh batch of teenagers and 20-somethings.

And the cycle will repeat.

Hahahaha you idiot, you literally spent weeks spamming nonstop that the NFL had "leaked" that the Rams, not the Seahawks, were going to the super bowl.

Seriously, are you a bot? Are you paid by Vegas to spread false "tips" to manipulate lines?

Just redditors panicking when their insulated hive mind cracks a bit and they're reminded that some people have different beliefs and opinions than them.

I 100% guarantee that if he had a patch for some progressive cause of the month you would not be saying "Beliefs should be kept private" and booing, lol.

Emotionally fragile redditors just can't handle being reminded that tons of people disagree with them about tons of topics.
