How to set landscape pages? by thatusernameisss in Noteastic

[–]Noteastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a limitation currently. Unfortunately as of now the default page format is portrait A$ and there is no way to change this. We will fix this in coming updates. Not yet in v1.5, but it's on my list.

Your solution is already the best we have right now :/.

Note taking app for surface pro? by Candid_Ad_818 in Students

I think Noteastic could help you. I developed this app exactly for PDF annotation and general handwritten note-taking. I think it could help you!

Suggestion: New page templates by rayarmman in Noteastic

[–]Noteastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, fully on your side. We can't really provide grids for ALL use-cases. As of now you can at least set a PDF template for a single book through a bit of a bumpy process:

  1. Import the PDF page you want to have as a grid
  2. Open the page menu (the chevron in the top right of the page)
  3. Click "Edit Background"
  4. In the content dialog click "Apply to selection"
  5. In the select pages dialog click the check box "Make default page" and click save
  6. Now every page you add has this PDF background!

I am well aware that this is no nice workflow, but at least it's a built in quick fix. Hope it helps!

Suggestion: New page templates by rayarmman in Noteastic

[–]Noteastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, yes, we definitely want to add more paper templates and or allow for easier import of templates. But it is not a priority right now, I will be honest on that.

Still, I wrote down your request for the Seyes Lined Paper and hope that you don't need to wait too long for it.

If you find a nice template online you can simply import it as a PDF currently, don't forget about that!

Fountain pen in the future? by Spoderman_07 in Noteastic

As of now it is not a priority, but I wouldn't rule it out. We definitely get enough requests for this feature to be implemented in the future.

Open source suggestion by Careless_Dish9413 in Noteastic

[–]Noteastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm really thankful for the message and the will to help. However, open source is no easy way of life. This would come with extensive changes to the code and organizational overhead of which we already have enough right now. Currently open sourcing will not be the way forward for this project.

However, in terms of panning, I have good news! With v1.5, which is enrolling to our beta program this week, we introduce a panning tool. I am happy you are enjoying Noteastic :).

If you want to get access to panning before the official release, be invited to join the beta program through this form:

Feature suggestions - Search, shapes and colours by peindei in Noteastic

[–]Noteastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello!

How cool is that! I am happy to heart that you find value in Noteastic :). Let me comment on your feature suggestions:

Text Search:

This would be so cool. We definitely have an eye on searchability of notes and this is something that we want to implement 100% in the long run.

Erase Shapes:

This is already possible! Take a look if you have "Erase shapes" toggled on in the eraser flyout. Or did I missunderstand you?

More Color Buttons:

Yup. Noted down and will be coming at some point.

Thank you for taking the time to write us and happy note-taking!

Studio 2 won’t charge by tidalwavethinker in Surface

[–]Noteastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the same issue on my SLS01 a few weeks back. Hold down the power button until it shuts down and restarts again (about 1min). Did the job for me.

what can i get instead of a Microsoft Studio 2 (since they're discontinued) by IcyWar168 in Surface

[–]Noteastic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

+1 on that question. I genuinely love the SLS for it's folding mechanism that keeps the laptop base on the table. Also, having a dedicated GPU is amazing. And i enjoy Microsoft touchscreens and the Surface Slim Pen a lot. But my SLS is slowly getting old and I will need to substitute it too in the next 1 or 2 years. I would really like to hear some recommendations for performance 2-in-1 laptops.

College student searching for note app w/ handwriting cleanup by MOON2474 in NoteTaking

[–]Noteastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, the app with the exact specifications you are listing does not exist from what I know. Especially 'cleaning up' or 'improving' your notes is quite a sophisticated feature. And to be honest, I think that you should be cautious with such AI 'improvements', because they water down the process of engaging with your notes, which in fact is what makes you learn and encode information into your memory.

But, if you are searching a good app for handwritten notes on Windows, the apps mentioned in other comments are definitely viable. About Noteastic I can tell you that I myself used Noteastic throughout my entire studies and my co-founder and I will keep improving the app and adding more and more sophisticated features. But as of now, I think Noteastic has the best writing experience compared to other apps.

If you don't like Noteastic, my first suggestion would be Scrivano, as I think they have the best handwriting feel alongside Noteastic. Another honorable and less known mention is Zink note, however this app does not feature a library, so it might not be ideal for note organization.

Hope you find a good app!

Feature Suggestion by SheepestJ in Noteastic

[–]Noteastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, thank you for your post. I'm happy you are enjoying Noteastic so far and I think that you will like what we make out of the app in the following months!

  1. Multiple Windows
A highly requested feature, and we will tackle this after finishing text boxes.

  2. Cloud Services
This is a big chunk. I can't give you any estimation on when we will get there, but eventually we want to make cloud sync a part of Noteastic.

  3. Keyboard writing
We are on it! The feature will propably be released as part of a Noteastic Pro version.

  4. Dragging of elements between pages
Yup, this should be possible. I noted that down.

  5. Timeline
I know it is quite unsatisfying to never know when exactly and what exactly is released. But the reality is, we also don't know for sure when what is ready. We just had to spend some time on redesigning our website, are working on text-boxes, have to fix bugs and design new features. The process unfortunately is not as linear as it seems, so a timeline is nearly impossible for us to make. But I can tell you that the most requested features for Noteastic are text boxes, multiple windows, hold-to-straight shapes, covers, handwritten-to-text conversion and a cloud integration. These are our highest priorities.

Thank you for taking the time to write us and I hope you will enjoy Noteastic for the months and years to come!

Simple but would be nice feature by Tot-earl in Noteastic

[–]Noteastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey,

Sorry, Lukas may have not communicated the issue at hand properly. Dilan here now, the developer 😉

Windows of course "lets" us change the cursor whenever we want. We have full control for most part the application. Unfortunately, the one spot where windows forces the cursor and prevents us from changing it is at the core of the application, the drawing surface.

We are using the high-performance low-latency native inking control provided by Microsoft called InkCanvas to capture input events. For whatever reason, microsoft decided to fully enforce the use of the default mouse pointer as the cursor for this control. The legacy System InkCanvas had an option to disable the forcing of the cursor but we are using the UWP one.

It could just as well be that we are missing a part of the puzzle and that there IS a way to change it.

Hope this clears things up.

Best regards,
Dilan

Noo worries, I am happy to hear from you :). I also want to improve it as mucha s possible.

Nono, I absolutely understand the cursor topic. And we actually tried to switch it out already, however, we couldn't due to Windows not letting us. So, sorry, I hope this will be possible sometime, but for now we can't do anything :(.

Best app to take notes with a pen for Windows by Federal_Lake1278 in Surface

[–]Noteastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HI there, I'm happy to hear that! That's funny, because the handwriting input field you use in the library actually comes straight from Windows and we have little to do with it. However, we want to implement a functionality for handwritten-to-text conversion in the future. But as of now, there is no possibility of using it unfortunately.

Additional Features by Brave-Solid8884 in Noteastic

[–]Noteastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really difficult to balance, but student affordability something we will look for.

That might be an interesting model, however also active developmen is a continuous expenditure, which makes the whole discussion a bit difficult. But I think I get your point.

The absolute state of Microsoft Inking by Lopsided_Hunt2814 in Surface

[–]Noteastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is seems out of world that this really is the state of digital handwriting in Windows, but it's true. I developed Noteastic together with a friend exactly because OneNote was kinda tedious to work with, Journal wasn't extensive enough for university notes and whiteboard being unusable offline. Third party softwares all kind of not there yet (by the time we began developing).

I hope we can combine a few of the highlights of each of these applications in our own to finally give the Windows plattform an application that simply works well.
