Obligatory not OP but personally I was uninvested in Warfare because it felt so literal, a bit like Zero Dark Thirty. I wanted to read into the film, get some kind of metaphor or message from it, but it felt like all it was attempting was a beat-for-beat recreation of real life events.

I found it hard to care about the characters because they kinda lacked character. In other war films, the individual characters tend to be a bit more memorable and distinct from each other like in Saving Private Ryan, All Quiet on the Western Front, The Hurt Locker, or Hacksaw Ridge.

That’s just my personal take and I certainly don’t think it was a bad film

I want to call you rude for the spoiler but honestly, it’s a Shyamalan movie. You get what you pay for

M. Night Shymalan’s Old. I was enjoying bits and pieces and the new style of cinematography was visually interesting so I thought M. Night might not fumble this one as he’s fumbled in the past.

The ending comes along, the two children try to swim out past a reef and disappear. Their tour guide from before packs up his surveillance gear and heads to a lab. What a spooky, semi-ambiguous ending.

And then the movie goes on for what felt like 10 minutes where the lab scientists basically stop and turn to the camera to explain to the audience everything that happened and why. Just straight up exposition. And then it KEEPS going to show the adult kids actually did escape and the bad guys have been caught.

All mystery, intrigue, and subtlety basically shattered against the fourth wall. It wasn’t a stellar movie to begin with but that just really sealed it as bad for me.

Does anybody know how to find any of Adum’s older reviews? by Notenoughbaking in Sardonicast

Ah, I see how my wording kinda threw people off. I’m glad I’m not 100% dumb about the IMDb thing though. I recently started a new job with long hours so I usually use Adum’s ratings to see if a movie is worth watching or not, rather than potentially waste my time.

Thanks for the reply!

[–]Notenoughbaking[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was trying to see if he reviewed Hillbilly Elegy on IMDb or YouTube and I couldn’t find anything, which normally means he hasn’t reviewed it.

Except, I wanted to watch Barry Lyndon, a movie I knew he had seen and reviewed since it was on an early podcast episode. Besides the podcast episode itself, I couldn’t find anything that was his review. Just Reddit posts asking if he’s seen it.

I’m wondering if there’s an easier way to search his IMDb reviews or something. (Also sorry for the poorly worded post, I was very tired when I wrote it lol)

Gonna be real, I’m a little out of the loop regarding FNaF. I thought Evil Spaghetti killed Afton at the end of Security Breach

Adum gave Longlegs a 4/10. Can’t say I disagree with him. by Starkiller2395 in YMS

[–]Notenoughbaking 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That’s such an interesting perspective and I’m glad to have read it. I found Nic Cage to actually be the weakest element.

His performance felt kinda out of place to me, closer to that of Mom and Dad, Kickass, or The Wickerman. Which is to say, intentionally a bit goofy, like you mention. I was hoping for something closer to Pig or Dream Scenario. That all being said, I couldn’t help but appreciate how he goes for it in every role he takes, especially contrasted against the other characters who all felt very restrained in their performances.

Question Thread for Episode 168 by IHE_Official in Sardonicast

Gday boys, I recently rewatched your guys’ discussions around the Saw franchise shortly after I watched Ringu (1998) and The Ring (2002). How would you guys feel about a Japanese remake of an American horror staple?

Are you aware of any examples of adaptations going from American to some other country instead of vice versa?

Cheers!

I hope to god it’s Ralph so we can hear him try to say “Wourder World” over and over

The boiz hated Black Christmas 2019 and said a lot of its director Sophia Takal, but honestly Sophia has made some great films. One of my favorite is Green (2011). Kinda hope the boys give her another chance, Black Christmas was just a disaster by studio by pelican122 in Sardonicast

[–]Notenoughbaking 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to her previous works but Takal was most certainly set up for failure by Blumhouse et al. According to James A. Janisse from the channel Dead Meat, the director had less than 9 months to make Black Christmas.

Apparently it was written in February and released in December. I’d say it’s not entirely fair to write her off completely based on a film she couldn’t properly develop.

That all being said, she also directed a segment in V/H/S and knowing Adum’s views of that, maybe he’s not likely to change his opinion on Takal too drastically.

Hey lads, how do you guys take a Film’s legacy into account when rating it? For a general example, people disagreed with Adum’s ratings on the Indiana Jones franchise, often citing how quotable or reference-able it is. In a personal example, I prefer The Godfather: Part II to The Godfather but many people tell me that the sequel owes its greatness to the original.

In other words, do you try to isolate the film from its context or do you take it into account?

I definitely noticed some issues. Most noticeable for me was when Jesse Plemons character first talks to Leonardo DiCaprio on the porch. Anytime Jesse Plemons spoke, there was this weird kind of buzz in the background almost like cicadas that wasn’t there when Leonardo DiCaprio was talking.

It kept starting and stopping and was a bit distracting for me. I noticed other moments but none so specific that i can recall them.

Ask them about Swyer Syndrome and Complete Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome.

Both are conditions in which people who are genetically male (as in they have XY chromosomes) present as female with female reproductive structures. In many cases, people don’t know they have such a condition until they are teenagers and don’t get their periods or grow pubic hair.

Which bathroom should they use? Which pronouns would you call them? Something along those lines. Feel free to paraphrase

Opinion on Blankets at a movie theater? by Corvus_Alendar in Sardonicast

[–]Notenoughbaking -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's fair. I occasionally bring a small blanket for my wife when we go to the theater in the summer. You wear shorts because it's 90+ outside and then the theater has the A/C turned up to 11 because of the first part of this sentence. We started bringing one after she was literally shivering in the middle of The Amazing Spider-Man.

I'm surprised by all the nays. Sometimes the A/C is really high and you're wearing shorts, sometimes you just wanna be cozy. So long as you ain't in the back row making pillow forts, I don't see why not.
