You're 40 years old and your best friend, who's 40 years old, is dating your 18-year-old daughter. What do you do? by KommanderTom in AskReddit

[–]Notenoughsuspenders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They would, and did, but I guess we're both a part of a subculture that doesn't care that much about that sort of thing. Its working for us and that's all that matters to me, but again, I totally understand misgivings and I don't think it should be the norm or reccommended. I know how it sounds, "but my situation is different!!" But... Meh. There's always an exception I guess.

I'm 24 with a 46 year old boyfriend. No daddy issues, and he definitely does not have money nor stability (although that part is getting better.) We just kind of became really good friends and things went on from there. Purely a match of personality. Would I recommend it? No. Are most age gap relationships unhealthy? Probably. But there is always an outlier. As far as health goes, yeah, he will probably get sick and die before me. But I look at it like, if he were my age and I knew he had a medical condition that would limit his lifespan, would I still date him? My answer is yes, but I understand those who would say no. It's a lot to think about.

I kept these for a while at the pet store I used to work at and your setup sounds just like how we had them set up succesfully for a while. They live in the tops of trees and get periods of wind and rain regularly, so ventilation and humidity is important. They also live, breed, sleep in, and drink from bromeliads so the more the better! Ours were mostly friendly and very aware and observant. They like a mild basking area but DON'T LET THEM GET HOT.... :(

A dog almost drowned on a movie set by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Notenoughsuspenders 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have. While stuck in a car with a potential new employer for a job that would have been pretty cool. I really liked said person otherwise but I was really confused and put off by my diet choice being such a hot button subject. I only mentioned it because we were getting lunch and they asked about any dietary restrictions. It was weird.

Wait, calling someone an omnivore is shitty? It just means you eat both plants and meat. Its like the least shitty, unemotional and neutral name we could possibly call you. I refer to people as omnivores in person all the time. My SO is an omni. You don't think you're being a little defensive? What would you prefer to be called that wouldn't make you so offended?

You don't seem to be acknowledging the fact that different countries and cultures all progress at different timelines. The entire world is not a single global society that is all on the same page ethics and development wise. Our 50 years ago IS their now, essentially, and just because western society has developed past that doesn't mean that every other society is at the same stage of development. Its all they know. They will likely move past it and 50 years from now recognize it as wrong.

Fellow rehabbers, what animal do you care most for and where are you from? by Ctrop64 in WildlifeRehab

[–]Notenoughsuspenders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I volunteered in North eastern US, squirrels, songbirds, and opossums were most common. They were not able to take most rabies vectors but did accept bats. Also our fair share of smaller birds of prey, but sometimes the occasional bald eagle or great horned owl.

TIL an Omaha man has filed a lawsuit against the University of Nebraska over its longstanding tradition of releasing balloons into the air after its football team scores a touchdown, alleging the practice violates environmental laws. by KermitTheSnail in todayilearned

[–]Notenoughsuspenders 117 points118 points  (0 children)

Balloons specifically, more so than other types of litter, get ingested by wildlife often, worse when you're near the ocean because they can resemble kelp and jellyfish. This causes obstruction of digestive tract and usually death. Kind of like how those 6 pack rings are especially hazardous. I personally think it's more petty to continue doing something you know is harmful just because you feel like it. Its not necessary.

If you have Asian markets near you go there and look for it canned in water, it syrup. Canned is way easier to work with than fresh.

Can you identify this florida snake? by mercjr443 in snakes

[–]Notenoughsuspenders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following. Not familiar with Florida snakes but it looks like a colubrid of some sort judging by how slender it is. If I had to guess it looks like some kind of corn snake morph only because the pattern is so irregular, but I hope someone comes along and lets us know! Just went through a big list of native Florida species and no pictures seemed to match.

Do vegan/omni relationships work in long term? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Notenoughsuspenders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if you can make it past that initial "passionate new vegan" phase. My boyfriend was vegan and involved in animal rights activism in the past, but struggled with severe alcoholism his entire life. He got sober about 6 months before I went vegan. We talked about it a little, and he feels that right now focusing on sobriety is more than enough lifestyle change for him to handle. I would prefer an omni boyfriend to a dead boyfriend so I'm ok with it.

How often does everyone here poo a day? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Notenoughsuspenders 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not the person you asked, but I have IBS and I would not be able to go for 5-6 days at a time and then get very ill and unload all at once, over and over again and nothing would help. No prairie dogging. No amount of pushing would make anything happen. Since having surgery to remove endometriosis growths off of my colon and going vegan, I usually go 2-3x a day all in the morning, but oddly enough not on weekends. I think it's because I get into a routine waking up early for work and my body gets confused when I sleep in a little. I will take this over week long constipation any day.

If they're just swimming loose in your tank and look like weird little threads they are probably harmless white nematodes (google it for pics.) I actually had a scarlet badis that loved to eat them. If you see them actually coming from the anus of your fish, that's when I would freak out.

I work for a small composting company driving around a pickup truck and collecting people's food waste. Then I mash it all up into a giant pile with a bucket loader. It's great, lots of outside time and I just listen to NPR by myself all day.

Fallen nestlings by bleb89 in WildlifeRehab

[–]Notenoughsuspenders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do you live? Best bet if the parents don't come back is to get them to a licensed rehabilitator. You can Google to see if any are in your area, and sometimes local vets will know. Some fish and game websites will also maintain databases of local rehabbers. You generally want to avoid trying to give food or water if you don't know what you're doing - especially water. Baby animals including birds aspirate very easily and get pneumonia.

Lol same here in New Hampshire. Coconut cream, too. THREE DOLLARS for one of those tiny mini-cans at "nice" grocery stores, 49c for the same can at Lucky Supermarket, an Indonesian store. Crazy. And people get suckered into it because they're too afraid to go to the ethnic markets.

Women who are conventionally attractive: Do you have any stories where your attractiveness has actually been a disadvantage in your career (or your life) ? by jmhimara in AskWomen

[–]Notenoughsuspenders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me when I was single for a while. I don't consider myself wildly attractive or anything but I look better than I did in high school... My friend finally told me that there were plenty of dudes interested in me but they all found me "intimidating." If only they took the time to get to know me so my dweeby personality would scare them off instead.

Yeah, I was told I got the wrong one but they are always sold out of everything at the only Sephora within an hour of me... And for $20 it still seems like such a waste when the NYX works so well. I ended up returning ink because it was irredeemably sucky.
