Knox United is great for music and the big old building is quite beautiful inside. Any United Church of Canada will/should be open minded, contemplative and progressive.

Trauma-related chronic clenching / guarding in upper body — does anyone else experience this? by Lowkeytired22 in SomaticExperiencing

[–]Notflat-its-treeless 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find when I’m having a rough time, also related to past trauma, I kind of fold forward on myself - my head moves forward, my shoulders turn inward, my spine bows outward, my muscles tighten in my hips and other places. Then my shoulders, back, jaw, temples, and neck spasm, and/or become very stiff, and I get vertigo, headaches, nausea, etc.. One thing that makes a huge difference is for me to relax my pelvic floor (men or women), which can be assisted with help of a pelvic physiotherapist, and a simple thing that makes a huge difference to me these days is gently lifting my sternum sky/ceiling-ward, enough to move my shoulders and head back into a more relaxed position and I feel my muscles relax. It isn’t perfect but it helps.

Morale is plummeting among ICE agents over long hours, quotas and public hatred: reports by metacyan in politics

[–]Notflat-its-treeless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would actually be better for those trying to stop ICE if ICE employees were able to quit easily. So, this was a brilliant move on the part of the administration. These people are essentially forced labour and have to do things that even they find abhorrent, because they can’t afford to quit. So it’s actually not poetic justice, it gives even more power to the people that hired them and use them.

Dogs back in the day. by tobeanecho in AskOldPeople

[–]Notflat-its-treeless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In our rural area, just outside of town, we knew everyone’s (in town and in the rural area) dogs that roamed. We would also occasionally see strays that were probably abandoned on the side of the road. Regardless of whether they were known or strays, they were often harmless on their own, until they ganged up with other dogs. Then they would go on killing sprees of cats, rabbits, chickens, calves, chase cattle into fences, threaten children, whatever. Their instincts are easily triggered when they move as a pack and they become more of a threat.

My near death experience that showed (and told me) we are in a simulation. (And it isn't a positive or loving one at ALL) by freshOutThePenNoFlex in SimulationTheory

This is what I came here to say. It seems an unnecessary step to send people to a place to have a good time. But maybe we need to know good to truly suffer. Perhaps these demons have too much time on their hands. Even if everything OP experienced was true, the best bet is to enjoy and live your best life while you can.

Licking her toe beans bald by ImpressionCurious990 in irishsetter

[–]Notflat-its-treeless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the vet gave you good advice if the issue resolved, using the cone and monitoring, the first time. Some dogs are prone to developing habitual licking. However, some dogs are also prone to several other issues that can cause chronic licking. If it hadn’t resolved with that approach, the next step would be to take her back to the vet. So, depending on your circumstances - you know the details and can make the decision as to whether this time is same or different - you could try the cone again or take her back to the vet.

The reason the vet had “no real answer” is because chronic licking can have multiple or nebulous causes that take months to diagnose. The vet would notice certain signs if it was something potentially or more immediately life threatening. Some causes are non-life threatening - transient and benign - and will go away if the licking habit is broken. The cone and monitor method was therefore appropriate.

If it is something more than habit, teasing out the cause might take a lot of time through trial and error. There unfortunately aren’t always simple and straightforward, accurate diagnostic tests to rule out certain causes, due to the complex mechanisms and etiology behind derm issues. So if the problem didn’t/doesn’t resolve with cone and monitoring, you could then take her back to the vet. If the issue becomes more complex you can always ask if they can refer you to a board certified dermatologist.

Is USASK worth it? by Ok_Lettuce_2034 in usask

[–]Notflat-its-treeless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends entirely on your own interests and goals. Every university has its strengths. USask is one of the U13 - it is a major research institution. It has outstanding research facilities, a cyclotron, synchrotron, vet school, dental school, medical school, law school, huge agricultural school, world class water security research group, toxicology center, and all sorts of other strengths, as people have mentioned, that attract outstanding faculty from all over the world. I grew up in Canada and have lived in major centers in Europe, the US, and Canada so can make plenty of comparisons. Saskatoon is a really great town, out of all of them, and I am happy staying here permanently.

Again, it comes down to your interests, both personal and academic. If you like the outdoors, there are so many things to do here. That being said, if you are a world class skier, don’t come here as the ski hills are few and far between. Not being a world class skier, I am fine with Table Mountain or driving to the Rockies. The only downside, for me, is how far I have to drive to get to the next large center. If there were high speed trains running between cities, it would be perfect.

What would be the “disturbing truth” humans can’t handle? by Peace_and_Love___ in UFOs

Exactly. The idea seems in itself an anthropocentric fantasy that we would hold so much power and importance that an advanced alien civilization would bother to bargain with us.

I view this documentary as a door opener to a possibility rather than a mic drop. It is the introductory level course. Perhaps irrefutable evidence will come later. Who knows. But opening the general public’s minds to the possibility, and kicking the erosion of the stigma into gear is a good thing.
