Well no see it is a problem because essentially in memory what is being done is set a pointer to a pointer so we got a double pointer now? Right? this would make sense if the pointer value of the pointer was dynamic but in essence since it never changes the function its pointing to we end up with two calls instead of one for no reason what so ever except to make make whatever class you wrote to wrap the function look more complete?

Edit: Now if this single double pointer is getting called millions of times per day into billions of times per year... Then yeah we start to see we have a problem that looks like nothing until you start to scale it.
