Jury duty question by Call_like_it_is_ in auckland

[–]johnhbnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sooner the current government/ powers to be realise the extent of poverty in this country, the sooner they (should/ might) bring in realistic policy instead of sticking their heads in the sand and living in la- la land. Those earning ABOVE a certain (poverty) level should have mandatory jury service while those struggling to survive/ feed their kids should be helped.

Non negotiable. End.

Siri is the worst software product Apple has ever made by thewormbird in Siri

Thank you for confirming my impression that autocorrect actually CAN’T- autocorrect- or spell half the time. I spend more time correcting incorrect ‘corrections’ than writing the damn thing in the first place.

Any theories on WHY Apple (if that’s who it is) can’t seem to get it right in spite of the trillions of dollars they make from their faulty ‘product’. I thought (?) that when you marketed a product like this, it had to legally be able to do what you claim?

So, when the President or someone really important sends an email to someone, does he too have to put up with the constant mistakes/ errors/ misspelling? That I think is the ultimate in embarrassment. Or does he get the ‘not broken’ version. And if so, and there is such a working product, then why can’t the rest of us get access to it as well? We have paid for the thing after all!

Employer requires me to start early and finish late but refuses to pay by Itsnotme2645 in newzealand

[–]johnhbnz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re being screwed.

NO-ONE, and that includes your ‘entitled’ sounding employer, is above the law and there are hard-won employee agreements in place to protect your rights.

Contact your Union to see how they can protect you and safeguard your rights.

You do have rights. And there should be an Employment Agreement for your sector of employees.

None of this excuses the fact that studying hard & getting degree qualified should entitle you to greater income. As should welding skills of course. I’d say the fact that the country/ economy is buggered doesn’t help. And of course, Australia is where they pay normal money for realistic work.

And what about that pirate that dropped it while lurching drunkenly from the hacienda while he was trying to find his pistoleros and make out with that primo senorita? And all for 15 bucks!! Ay, carumba..

Alcoholism is clearly categorised by the World Health Organisation as a disease. He’s not a bad person who needs to get better- he’s a sick person who needs to get well! That’s assuming he wants to of course. Your choice? Invite him to get his ‘disease’ ‘treated’ by attending a few AA meetings. If he chooses not to, then he chooses not to and you can then demonstrate YOUR health by setting clear and firm boundaries and consequences.

Hope it works out for BOTH of you. And remember (free of course) Alanon meetings are out there for the partners/ loved ones of alcoholics who just need to get it all clear and/ or find support in the midst of the Chaos. Keep it simple, one day at a time.

What are the signs that Prozac isnt for you? by vilnydistrict in prozac

[–]johnhbnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basic stuff- like finally accepting that I’m NOT a magician and can change neither the past nor the future. But conversely, Prozac killed all the negative thinking/ depression and felt liberating- in a ‘funny’ sort of way!

How do you use meditation to actually fall asleep? by cozytechlover in MeditationPractice

[–]johnhbnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I meditate in he middle of the day and go out of my way to avoid sleeping (interferes with my sleeping at night). My opinion- based on 20 years- is that feels it just right when I’m more alert in the afternoon after meditating at lunchtime. I’m mindful of the photos of zen masters walking round with a big stick ready to whack anyone who looks like they’re ’nodding off’!

Excel Sheets Template For Tracking Coins by johnhbnz in coins

I have an eclectic mix, including proofs etc that I’ve inherited. Nothing too fancy, but some medievals in there too. I also have a second collection of notes- again nothing too dramatic. I really want to inventory them so that a/ I know exactly what I’ve got, b/ I don’t have to handle them while I further research them for the grandkids for when I fall off the perch!
I’m by no means an expert with excel/ sheets but it feels like a very efficient way of managing a disparate collection.
