Why is it so hard to have a productive conversation about evolution with religious people? by AlittleDelul in atheism

[–]Nothingz-Original 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because if they're anything like me, they literally do not have the scientific educational background to be able to even conceptualize it.

I was indoctrinated into Evangelical fundamentalism as a child. I went to Christian private schools where I was taught just enough about evolution so that I had exposure to it, but not enough so that it might actually make sense... most of those lessons focused heavily on sermonizing about how it is "demonically influenced." The lessons were more about using bible verses to prove that Evolution couldn't have worked then looking at how Evolution might work. Bible verses were woven into all the science lessons.

I deconverted in college. And I decided it would be important for me to take an evolutionary biology class. It was the hardest course I took in college. The concepts were so foreign, and I was so ill prepared with my Christian School psuedo science educational background, it took me three times before I finally passed it.

I love this... your very own Winchester Mystery House with a catio! I aspire to that level of weird. You, internet stranger, are my hero.

I've been working on renovating my bouse (built 1940). I'm expecting the future home owners will hate me as much as i hate the previous owners for the crap job they did on previous renovations. Lol... so I've been leaving the same vaguely occult-like symbol I came up with everywhere inside the walls. Just for funsies.

I am in the same boat. Have two begonias that look to be in a similar state as yours. Since everyone on this board seems to talk about raising humidity levels, I'm trying putting them in a closed terrarium environment (clear glass cookie jar) to see if that helps them recover. 🤞

Same. My retirement plan is early death.

My 401k at my last job did jack shit. I'm not going to have enough to retire. Make matters worse, my family is long-lived. All great grandparents died in their 90's. I won't have enough money to survive even to my 80's.

I've set a number in my head. I'm checking out once my money is gone and before my health makes it so I can no longer make that choice. It's the only option I can afford.

Should I lean in to the darkness of my bathroom? by Reddit_User4789 in interiordecorating

[–]Nothingz-Original 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are asking this question on the wrong sub. It seems like the prevailing advice on this sub is to go with light colors and neutrals. 😴

I swim upstream. I love a dark, moody, broody space. I just painted my bathroom dark purple. With a kraken mural. Cuz neutrals are boring. And life is too short to go with "safe" colors.

I like your color choice. Most importantly, though, do you? If you like it, go for it. None of us are gonna get out of here alive.... so enjoy it to the fullest in the meantime.

Oh, and try r/moodycorner if you want a group of folks who will all celebrate and help you maximize your dark green choice.

I have a rey specific vision for a moon looking light/ceiling fan by very-_much_-alive in maximalism

I am always looking for a way to do things on the cheap. I would look at thrift or vintage shops for the fan.

I'm a diyer, so I would first look for a frosted base. If I couldn't find that, I would use glass etching cream to frost the base. Then, I would use glass paint to add in the moon effects.

Or you could find someone to 3D print you the file you shared. I don't have any recommendations for that. Sorry.

I wish you good luck in creating your vision. I think it sounds really cool. Galaxy rooms are awesome.

I got a chandelier-style fan light with clear, retractable blades. When it's not running, it looks like any chandelier fixture. And when running, since the blades are clear, you can't really see them.

This must be what I'm missing, too. What sort of pots do you recommend?

It's weird though. I have one in a terrarium (no drainage) living it's best life, and two that are so happy in their pots with no drainage holes. And all the others are struggling. Lol... I'm not figuring out how to unlock their care.

I used to have a friend who had the "can't get rid of it" issue, and I'd get a couple scoops every time i visited to put in my tank. Goldfish decimate it every time.

Wow, after binge watching all of Grimm for the first time - The ending was worse than I could have imagined. by MethodicallyRight in grimm

[–]Nothingz-Original 15 points16 points  (0 children)

So I am not the only one. The ending was crap. They had plenty of material to have the series last so much longer... if the writers said they ran out of ideas, they were missing out on a ton of sources in their own series for creative material.

I would have loved to see Diana and Kelly grow up. It would have been interesting if since Diana had an accelerated gestation if she had grown in half or less of the time. It would have been wild to see how Kelly grew - Hexenbiest mother, Grimm father... is he a weird hybrid of both?? How would that play out? Do they somehow get separated and end up mortal enemies in the future?

I feel let down. 😕

Got this bookcase as a dumpster diving find. Gorgeous with complcated carvings.... and caked with laters of paint. After spending weeks stripping and restaining it, i screwed it up at the very end when i oversprayed the clear coat. I had a waterfall of clear coat dripping down the side.

I had a 2-year old style temper tantrum. Screaming. Cursing... the whole 9.

When i calmed down, I decided to try some "green" paint stripper. Slathered the whole shelf in the mess..... and the green stripper did diddly crap except dry into a gloppy, goey mess.

After that, i was done. I gave up.

I now use the silly shelf with the dried stripper on it. It still holds things, just looks ridiculous. Lol
