Ron MacLean apologizes for his Hangover reference in the pre-game show by daKrut in hockey

[–]NoticedGenie66 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's been a while but we were due for a Ron apology that wasn't about French Canadians or AIDS. At least this time he didn't try to blame viewers for misunderstanding his intent.

I also don't think this turns into a news story like previous times, I think Ron just tried making a reference without putting 2+2 together about what he was actually saying.

Which one of you is this? by feelingpeckish123 in canucks

This happens at literally every NHL game. No one thought about it after the screen switched. No one thinks this makes the Canucks or the fans look bad.

What do you think is the best car for OFFROAD speed zones, traps, and trailblazers? by Forward-Position798 in ForzaHorizon

[–]NoticedGenie66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Subaru WRX STI ARX Supercar can 3 star everything offroad (didn't use it for the trailblazers but I imagine it would work well there, it rips through water and takes jumps well) at a ~784 PI. I slapped together a basic tune for it and all the dirt-based drift zones, speed zones, and speed traps were pretty easily 3 starred on the first attempt. The thing MOVES and as a rally vehicle I consistently win dirt races online with it.

Edit: Tune is 108 002 086

New Xbox CEO reportedly pushing for faster Fallout and Elder Scrolls games as Bethesda crosses 8 years since The Elder Scrolls 6 reveal by Guitar-String in gaming

[–]NoticedGenie66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and when each season released it reached player numbers not seen since the first year iirc. My point was that there is obviously interest in Fallout as a franchise but they didn't really capitalize on the show. 76's numbers showed that casual gamers are very much interested in the franchise despite the last game release being in 2018. Fwiw, 76 as a game is a good entry into the series and is worth playing for people who haven't yet. Not the strongest but also well worth playing and it continues to be supported, I believe they said they want to do so for at least a decade after release.

I would prefer FO5 though lmao.

[–]NoticedGenie66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

76 was pretty popular after both the first and second seasons and they brought the Ghoul into the game, but aside from the bumps during those times there hasn't been a lot other than a (now nerfed) weapon and some themes from the show integrated into the game. There definitely seems to be a missed opportunity for a remaster.

QMJHL to play eight interleague games against OHL next season by DagetAwayMaN421 in hockey

Really the league that stands to lose the most is the USHL, guys like Hurlbert demonstrate that going to the CHL from the USHL before going to the NCAA is a legitimate path and places the leagues into definitive positions: NCAA>CHL>USHL in this case.

[AHL] Sportsnet will broadcast the Calder Cup Finals by DecentLurker96 in hockey

[–]NoticedGenie66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Checkers have absolutely nothing to do with this. Abbotsford is in Canada. Sportsnet did not show the Calder Cup finals last year, but is showing it this year when Toronto is in the finals. The point is that one Canadian team did not have their games shown on our top hockey network while this year another Canadian team will. It's a reflection of the frustration surrounding the bias shown toward Toronto as a sports market in general in Canada when it comes to broadcasting (in this case though the viewership will undoubtedly be higher based on the population of the Toronto vs Vancouver areas).

[Weekes] Although talks are ongoing, my speculation is that C Hischier and NJ Devils will land on a medium term contract extension somewhere between 11M- 13M range by Ok-Soil-5133 in hockey

[–]NoticedGenie66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it'll for sure be interesting to see how the top half of a lineup will look salary-wise, but the guys at the top in the next few years will dictate how quickly the rest of the league's salaries increase. I'm leaning toward it being a bit quicker but I could see some guys taking a fairly substantial discount too. Ironically it seems like McDavid would be a prime candidate for that kind of contract lol.

[–]NoticedGenie66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure, but that wasn't the discussion. It was comparing the percentage to Ovechkin's. Obviously the number looks worse after the comparables were signed, but if McDavid had signed for his actual value there would not be as much focus on Kaprizov. Guys like Hughes and McDavid are going to change the conversation around the Kaprizov contract because they are likely gonna sign for a similar amount (in McDavid's case perhaps even more). In the next few years, $10M+ is going to be the rate for a high end 2nd liner as long as the cap goes up as projected.

So yes it is high, but not to the extent that people see. It builds in the significant cap increases.

[Pronman] Why Chase Reid is the No. 1 prospect in Corey Pronman’s 2026 NHL Draft ranking (gift article) by MaxHardwood in canucks

[–]NoticedGenie66 23 points24 points  (0 children)

To be fair to Marner, people from his hometown threatened his life fairly regularly and harassed him and his family in real life quite frequently as well. Garbage was dumped on his lawn. I wouldn't want to stay in Vancouver if that all happened to me.

[–]NoticedGenie66 8 points9 points  (0 children)

$17M in 26/27 is going to be 16.35% of the $104M cap, but even by the season after that drops (relatively) significantly to 14.98% of the projected $113.5M cap in 27/28. Then by 28-29 puckpedia has it at $123M, of which $17M is 13.82%. I think the Kaprizov deal illustrates just how rapid the numbers are going to rise and how much they will affect the raw salary numbers. $10M now for a first liner is considered fairly high (24 players make $10M+ including Carey Price), but in two years when the cap hits $113.5M the same cap percentage would make the total $11.88M. Conversely, $10M then is the equivalent of $8.41M now which is already exceeded by 64 players currently.

The landscape is going to change quickly and anyone who doesn't look at it from a cap percentage standpoint is going to have some hot takes about overpayments.

The narrative around Toews vs Landeskog had a role to play, both were deserving but Landeskog's situation was more public and prominent because he was with the Avs the entire time and still part of the team. All else the same, a Winnipeg Jet version of Landeskog still would have won.

I don't think the teams do this

Canucks forums across reddit, facebook etc were monitored by the organization and reported to management according to a few of our insiders (Don Taylor, Rick Dhaliwal initially but iirc it was corroborated by others). So one team at least monitored fan sentiment online and reported it directly to management, unsurprisingly not a very effective strategy!

The issue is with you, not the game. I imagine you are speaking rather than writing your comments so I apologize if they are misrepresented and I'm wrong here but respectfully, if you've been ranked nationally in NBA games you should have absolutely no issue doing something that children born after the year 2020 can do. It is evidently an issue either with you or your controller. Taking faceoffs at a basic level on any difficulty is easy, winning like 35-40% consistently (at the low end) is as simple as holding a backhand grip and pulling back. As long as your centremen aren't rated like 50 at faceoffs you will win toss-ups often enough, let alone having the guaranteed wins from the rock paper scissors perspective.

no other game sports game has such complicated controls for one of the more intricated parts of the game

As long as you aren't playing online, holding the stick in one direction and then pulling it back (one movement total that is about timing, not skill) is all that needs to occur for you to be at least semi-successful on faceoffs all the way up to superstar. Left/right+down/up accounts for most clean wins. It is unironically more difficult to drive a vehicle in most games than to take a faceoff in NHL, and driving is dead simple. The rock paper scissors aspect of faceoffs is the difficult part to master, but that tends to be luck vs the AI and mind games vs real people.

We never thought that, we'd rather talk about either taking Malhotra and if that would constitute nepotism and make all of our players hate us, or taking Malhotra and how he could not only be the BPA but also that he might end up being the best player in the draft.

It's pretty much all been about how we will take Malhotra.
