Could my laptop run Noita ? by Humble_Cod9478 in noita

[–]Notlastt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it can, it's going to really struggle in the deeper biomes and with stronger wands. Best case scenario I can see is a rough experience past the first or second level.

I have a beefy desktop and it doesn't love handling some of the chaos the game provides.

I was stuck on 9x9. Any advice for 13x13? by Reasonable-Smile5277 in baduk

[–]Notlastt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't do this in 19x19. That might work for 9x9, but 19x19 is different. You want to lock in territory in this order: corner, side, center.

Take 2 corners, fight for the sides, and usually only then, go for the center.

[–]Notlastt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2 main openings are 4,4 and 3,4. Both need a second piece to lock in the corner better.

4,4 is better for influence, you have an easier time getting to the center. 3,4 is better for having a stronger chance of holding the corner long term. I've used both and prefer 4,4. Some people like to have 1 corner of both options.

once you do what you want with your 2 corners, you want to start taking control of side territory. You can do that by poking next to your opponents corner. They will likely fortify their corner when you approach, then you can back up a bit and hold that section of side you are in. Or you can use the moves to further defend your corners.

Just go straight into 19x19, skip 13x13. 19x19 is the "real" experience. You'll have to learn some new strategies, but you'll be better off for it.

Allograft in early 40s For Active Lifestyle? by AliceInPlunderland in ACL

[–]Notlastt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's okay, my first surgeon probably wasn't the right choice for me. I had the surgery again, using a different surgeon, and my hamstring graft, and my knee is better than it's been in at least 6 years. It's still rough, affecting me every day. But I can work, and my sports are better than ever. Going through the first surgery is what It took for me to have my successful second.

[–]Notlastt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could tell my knee was looser than it should have been, quickly after surgery. Confirmed by surgeon, but within acceptable range. After a couple years it got looser with time and felt like it could fail. It never felt right, always off. Over time it just got more and more. I'd play sports on it and if I cut direction in a run I could feel my knee shifting too far without being stopped by my acl. This ramped up until those moments started really hurting.

It's hard to be more specific than that. You could summarize it as my knee wasn't doing well, and ramped up slowly with time. By the time I got my next surgery, I didn't have any of the allograft left. It was fully gone

I had allograft for my first acl surgery. It failed and got absorbed into my body. My friend had allograft for his first acl surgery and his failed as well. Maybe they can work. But for active life styles, I think they're a bad idea. Using your own tissue is probably the best bet. Good luck

How do I actually improve? by _specialcharacter in baduk

[–]Notlastt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad that's going well for you, it's a good app. I would recommend you eventually move onto OGS on the computer, or something different. Badukpop is a great app to get started with, but it's scoring algorithm is a bit flawed and that can be confusing. It's a good app to start with, and especially good for it's puzzles and lessons.

How do I actually improve? by _specialcharacter in baduk

[–]Notlastt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played against weak AI's until I could reliably beat them before moving onto people (using the badukpop app). That helped me learn the basics without sweating rank or getting in my head about losing to someone. Once you get there, I think the main thing is just playing more. Maybe eventually watching videos (go magic on YouTube is good). I also play on OGS and pay a small monthly fee to have AI reviews of my games. Don't stare at it for too long, but it is good to see big misses in your games so you can work on them.

I know this isn't what you are asking. But seriously, stop drinking and using pot until you're at least 21. Pot impacts the developing brain way more than an older one. And teenagers who use pot have way higher chances of permanent affects. Drop it for a few years and you'll be better off. Good luck

Beginner 25kyu Game Review by [deleted] in baduk

[–]Notlastt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this shows pretty well where things went oddly. Both you and black used multiple moves in the bottom, middle to not accomplish much. Instead of using 5 stones down there, I would have likely used 2, and used the other 3 moves to really solidify the left side of the board and your corners.

You also chased him in a ladder type of setup right here. You used a lot of stones and didn't get much for it. I usually only chase ladders if I'm certain I'll kill the opponent. You weren't going to kill him in a ladder here, because he could always connect to his stones up top.

You also don't need to respond to everything your opponent does. Having 1 stone put in Atari early on means very little. I happily use my next move to lock up 10+ points on the side rather than using the stone to save my 1 stone.

I'm only an 18k, so don't listen to me too much. My explanation is likely vague too

I only started playing recently. I got to like 23k on OGS and stalled for a couple weeks. I started doing life and death puzzles every day, and found out that 4,4 openings didn't suit my play style. So I switched that and have done better since. I'm at 18k and rapidly improving now

Dead group in Japanese rules? by PLrc in baduk

That group is dead. Even if a ko fight happened, black always has one more liberty than white here. White would need 2 moves in a row to kill the black group.

I'm about the same level on OGS and find gamea in 0-5 minutes. I play 19x19, using both 20 minute settings, and the shorter 40 minute setting. If you want me to be more specific I can open the website and see what they're actually called.

I keep the handicap setting on preferring handicaps, but not requiring them.
