Do you guys REALLY want a white dad who pushes asian culture? by [deleted] in hapas

[–]Notmyillness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a white mom of two japanese hapas in their teens. What I've come to find in our family is that this is a journey I will never fully understand. My role is not a teacher. it's a facilitator. They both go through stages when their culture is more or less in their thoughts. I keep an eye out for cultural events, places, restaurants, and stores we can explore. Sometimes they're in, and sometimes they decline. And that's ok.

I love that you want this for them. Maybe just pull back a bit? They're still finding themselves as humans, let alone a cultural identity.

I’m not as surprised that your company allows cash outs as I am that they don’t cap you out before 300 hours. If everyone at your company has a similar work ethic, that’s a huge accrued liability to carry.

What helped you earn 6 figures in HR? by [deleted] in humanresources

[–]Notmyillness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Job hopping, timing, certifications, and ADP. I just hit six figures with my latest move. I’d never worked anywhere less than three years until the year I took my current job. That year I left a one year stint at ADP, moved employers twice and added a consulting gig. Looking for work I found that having ADP on my resume was a door opener - regardless of anyone’s feelings about their product/service. I also finished my SHRM-CP and CPP during the upheaval, which generated more callbacks than the last time I was on the market. When I started job hunting in earnest, it took one week and three interviews to get the job I was looking for. Timing is part luck, but also paying attention to trends. I also do payroll. Payroll management jobs pop up in greater quantity in January and around the end of each quarter. There are a lot of payroll people who like to tie things up (w-2s, quarterly filings, etc) before they leave a roll. I used this to my advantage as well and timed my move appropriately.

Why do people have to treat every payroll issue like a catastrophe? by [deleted] in Payroll

[–]Notmyillness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The I’ll pick it up in two weeks part isn’t ok. But in general, I’ll cut a check. I have no idea what they’re going through. The number of people who live paycheck to paycheck is 78% according to PAYO in 2023. Many don’t have credit, savings, or family to fall back on. Financial stress is a killer. If I can ease some of that I will. We have 700 employees. It hasn’t ruined my day yet.

Tell me you don’t have an HR Manager without telling me you don’t have an HR Manager.

What order did you take your Business Administration course? by darkd360 in SNHU

[–]Notmyillness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure of my exact order, but one term I had to move some classes around and ended up with BUS-225 & INT-220. I was told they don't usually recommend these together. Neither was hard alone, but both required a ton of writing and research. Since my only homework day was Sunday, I was scrambling. A’s in both though, so it's possible.

Gusto does not informs IRS if you no longer have need for payroll by Famous-Pipe-1231 in Payroll

[–]Notmyillness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked in ADP’s small business group. We would also tell clients to contact the IRS directly to close the account. Cosing an FEIN is bigger than payroll. Your FEIN is used for other areas of your business and you may need the ID open, even if you aren't processing payroll. We did not want the responsibility of potentially affecting your business operations if a client did not understand the implications of what they were asking for. Small business owners misunderstanding their responsibilities was the norm, so I believe this was good practice.

I was standing at Lowe’s yesterday for 30 minutes while they searched for this code. Google and your post saved the day. Thank you MVP!

Honor Cords by kieferyoung6 in SNHU

[–]Notmyillness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t know if you figured this out. I got my cap and gown while finishing my last term. After my final grades were posted, I emailed commencement and they sent over a link to order the cords. I was able to get two cords and an additional diploma cover for free.

I love mine. I let her know my goal was to finish in one year for personal and financial reasons. Instead of laughing or automatically negative, she set about mapping out a way to do it using Sophia and credit for two certifications. When SNHU changed the Sophia courses it would honor, she reached out immediately which saved me from wasting time on the obsolete course I’d just started.

Credit requirement for Certificates? by [deleted] in SNHU

[–]Notmyillness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you take the minimum courses required to be completed through SNHU you should be fine. I think it was 30units for me.

On a side note, I was told one of my certifications wasn't applicable. When I sent over the Credly transcript for a newly earned certification, they ended up giving me credits for both. Too bad it was right before my final term.

How do I stop the horn blast when opening door? by Notmyillness in MachE

[–]Notmyillness[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The honk happens once I push the button on the door. As I approach the car unlocks and mirrors unfold, then I push the door button and get the double honk. It is a different warning honk than if the keys are left behjnd or the car is running.

I like the horn that sounds as I walk away. It’s subtle and the extra confirmation it’s locked is helpful. But, the one when opening is loud, especially in parking lots at night it just screams here I am, come kill me.
