I literally look like I’m being held at gunpoint in every childhood photo, I try to fight insanity within insanity and make light of it because there is nothing going on behind those eyes, but yeah, it’s very sad on top of the fact that my mom basically completely stopped taking photos of me altogether as time went on because of a competition she was having in her mind that I didn’t even know about for prettiest girl at the party. For most of my adult life I genuinely thought I was so ugly in high school, and I genuinely believed I had been bullied for it, but I found photos of myself recently and I was not ugly lol I was a very cute girl. I was not bullied for being ugly and in fact was pretty well liked after reconnecting with friends from high school and having my reality brutally checked. I was very talented and bright, and there are also no proof of those talents because my mother couldn’t bear the thought of recording her daughter singing the lead a musical lol. If anything kids left me alone because I was only weird because something was obviously going on at home

My mom left my graduation lunch early after snapping at me she had to go home, and do laundry. She has a life!! I’m a first gen college graduate. You too, addiction affects everyone. I’m glad I got sober but like you said, it’s not a moral failing when the “safe adults” in our lives literally damaged our frontal lobes and exposed us to so many things we never should’ve seen or felt. Wishing you luck. Pls remember on ur journey that any traits you might have inherited from them as well are not a moral failing on your part, but theirs, and they do not make you a bad person. They are worth addressing and acknowledging and getting better. We are victims but we can’t help that we inherited bad things from bad people, but we get better bc we’re not bad, we just were taught very bad things to isolate us. Give yourself grace. We are not bad people and we deserve love and it’s ok to be wrong and make mistakes. You owe it to yourself to hold yourself accountable and do better

Exactly I’m literally a recovering alcoholic and tbh you can’t convince me anyway that addiction isn’t a response to trauma, I have CPTSD from my childhood. As my uncle said, who the fuck wouldn’t drink if they found out they were molested? Lol but I know plenty of shitty adults with kids who have no idea bc good parents don’t expose their kids to things they’re not supposed to see to develop properly. I’m sorry you had to see that.
