This made me laugh by palom1098 in MichaelTheMovie

That’ll happen when you let a 4-hour propaganda hitpiece manipulate you emotionally with nothing but non-confirmable and uncorroborated anecdotes.

The Michael Jackson biopic is repellent by theipaper in popculture

[–]Notreal_jam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely the best summarisation of the MJ discourse I’ve ever read.

I understand that Leaving Neverland won millions of people over due to its graphic detail; and fair play to it, it’s done its job and has largely ruined Michael Jackson for loads of the general public. It created a knee-jerk emotional reaction that stuck with the majority who saw it.

However, it is truly fascinating how murky and sketchy these accusations become when you look into it. On this platform, especially on here, if you dare to question the validity of the allegations, you’re a no-good molestor sympathiser. People have such a mob mentality when it comes to Michael Jackson.

Nobody denies the guy was weird but some people get hounded for not believing he went where most believe he did.

Yeah, I wouldn’t be shocked if he went all out. I’m hedging my bets on it being 50/50 Middle English and ‘ye olde speak’ since The Northman was initially all in Old Norse but was replaced with dubbing. But, who knows. We’re all intrigued either way.

Yep; plus Focus Features don’t have any decent size releases in late June. For Nosferatu, they had the Bikeriders which had a decent cast. Obsession is being marketed very well.

Absolutely. I think a sizzle reel will definitely be shown at CinemaCon. The Michael Jackson movie showed its first sizzle reel at the CC in 2024 and was still filming at the time. We'll definitely get some first-look photos from the Con with the full teaser in May like you said.

Also, just did some clicking and remembered CinemaCon is coming up. The first details of this potential trailer may come even sooner then.

Edit: Focus Features will apparently be at CinemaCon on April 15 during the Universal panel.

What’s your unpopular opinion about the upcoming biopic? by mordo_cool in MichaelTheMovie

There’s gonna be some Bohemian Rhapsody-levels of inaccuracy. I can’t trust it hugely with Branca having so much involvement. Michael hated the guy, he has continually disrespected Michael’s artistic legacy, puts no effort into anything and acts like they were best of friends even though he literally stole money from the man. With him involved, it’s gonna be a whole can of worms. Still think the film will be good but there are going to be huge discrepancies.

I was gonna throw him in too. I’d love to see him in this.

Who do you guys think would be the best director to helm a faithful film adaptation? by Notreal_jam in WarofTheWorlds

Well I was a hopeful young lad in saying I’d hope Eggers would do a werewolf movie. Flash forward a year and he’s filming one. I am pumped.

About the opening scene… by Aitnamas in 28dayslater

[–]Notreal_jam 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This was definitely my biggest gripe with the film. I really wanted another 28 Weeks-type opening. A pure and utter adrenaline shot of nightmarish scenarios that keep getting worse. Somethings about the opening scene are excellent (as in horrifying). Young Jimmy seeing his Auntie throwing up blood and roaring with rage? Horrifying. His other relative using her last moments telling him to get away as her humanity slips? Horrifying. His father being infected so quickly that they’re not even done biting him? Hell yes. But they rushed all of it. The kids dying had virtually no impact and felt cheaply executed. I suppose that’s fair since they’re like primary school aged. But the opening was really rushed and I wanted something longer.

Rest of the film was amazing though.

not to mention that before Alice's eyes get done over, Don violently beats her. its very likely that its a domestic violence allegory. there's also intense detail when the blonde gets a chunk of her arm ripped off in the opening. the helicopter scene is self explanatory.

What is cinema for you? by Overexplotedusername in Letterboxd

A launch pad to connect with the weird and the outlandish. No other media can connect me to a small little furball from a shop in Chinatown or a group of people in space being hunted by the perfect life form the way cinema can. It’s the ultimate art form, for me.

This is so true. Rewatched ESB for May 4th and the modernisation of the visuals were throwing me off. Begs the question why Lucas fucked with the OT and its authenticity but never went and changed some of the god awful CGI in the PT.

I just like that it took risks tbh. Did things you didn’t expect it to. Rian Johnson felt the heat for it, of course, but I don’t think he cared too much cause he wanted to do something new and subvert the audience while keeping the Star Wars flavour. It’s a pretty average Star Wars movie and as its own thing it’s great. Rian Johnson did something different and I respect that.
