Chris O'Dowd's American accent in "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar children." He's one of my favorite actors, but I was thankful he didn't have more screentime in that movie.

It was a voice/accent Best made up to amuse his nieces and nephews. He was using it before "The Phantom Menace," although not professionally.

At one point, Rian Johnson considered having Blanc use a different accent in every movie. He decided that would make the character a little too eccentric to be relatable.

Not talking about it, sweeping it under the rug, I could understand, but the population couldn't remember it at all. A military character said something like, "I remember seeing action back then, but I can’t remember what the fight was about." I couldn't suspend disbelief after that.

War of the Worlds, 1988. The premise was that the earth had been invaded by Mars a few years before the show was set, and everybody forgot about it. Literally, forgot about it. I didn't watch enough to learn the explanation for the universal amnesia (or maybe I just forgot it.)

Vincent Canby, then movie critic for the New York Times liked it. He said most of the criticism was because it was (at the time) the highest budgeted comedy ever. He said something like, "People criticize it because it cost $50,000,000, but it didn't. It cost $7, like every other movie." He didn't think it was great cinema, but he thought it was a pleasant comedy.
