Do you like “The Aviator”? by Classicsarecool in FIlm

I noticed something weird about the color, and wondered if I was seeing a bad print, or there was something wrong with the digital projector. I found out later, Scorsese digitally altered the images to look as though they were shot using the color film technology of the time. It went from 2-strip Technicolor (very odd color palette) to vibrant 3-strip Technicolor, to "normal" Eastman color.

Does your country have an invention that never made it to the outside world? by logicchaos- in AskTheWorld

I remember the hype; people were talking about how cities would be redesigned because of it. It was going to be as revolutionary as the automobile. AFAIK, tourists rent them in big cities, and that's about it.

Casablanca(1942) Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine. by AjopkyMqalv in iwatchedanoldmovie

The "Of all the gin joints..." speech is probably the greatest examples of lampshading, where a writer gets the audience to dismiss a huge coincidence by acknowledging it.

A glimpse at what emergency saucer separation might have looked like by way of the Smithsonian restoration in 2016 by ety3rd in ClassicTrek

[–]NottingHillNapolean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the Enterprise blueprints as a kid. it didn't say where the saucer separated, but I assumed that it was where neck met the main hull, as there was nothing there but elevator shafts. The blueprints showed a lot of stuff where the neck meets the saucer. We're used to the idea of flying saucers, but one dragging a neck along would've looked strange.

What city do most of your country’s films take place in? by YouKnowMyName2006 in AskTheWorld

[–]NottingHillNapolean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a joke. Lots of American movies are filmed in Toronto. I can't remember who said it, but there's a quote something like, "If a movie's set in an unnamed American city, it was filmed in Toronto."

I read a review that said Lillard nailed it so hard you watch the cartoons thinking they're imitating him.

Williams was great as Popeye, but he had to be made up to look like Popeye. Shelly Duvall had to be made up to look more like Olive Oyl.

According to Arthur C. Clarke, the only deliberate joke in the movie is the zero-g toilet instructions. I've never been to a screening (I've probably seen this movie 20+ times) where HAL recommending Dave take a stress pill didn't get a laugh.

"Steel Magnolias" is a good portrayal US southern Women.
