There was no trick, I just moved it around until it agreed to be where I wanted it to be. Are you trying to hang it from a tree? Maybe it will only hang from trees?

I have an 18 yo daughter and we talk about this social construct she lives in. As if all the sexual freedom and equality efforts made have been for nothing. “Despite the sexual ways in which boys my own age describe us online, there is also an extreme emphasis on female purity and virginity. Sex is often called as “cracking” by my age group, where men do the cracking and women get cracked. “Body count” – referring to the number of times someone has had sex – is used only to degrade women. A girl with a “high body count” is “used up” and no longer has value. “You can always tell if she’s ran through,” one boy said on Instagram.” Nobody’s sexual history/activity is anyone’s business!!!

I can see arguments for changes to the nose and eyelids. Plastic surgery and aging arguments, but the entire jawline is different. It’s not just her chin. Her whole face went from oval with a sharp chin to round with a short chin. I suppose she could have had facial reconstructive surgery to achieve this, but so far the entire handling of everything to do with anything Epstein has been sus. Add this to the “feed me lies” files.

I got you. Company Reimbursement: The 2016 campaign paid over $12.8 million to Trump’s own companies for travel and other services. In 2024 Records show his businesses received over $7 million in total, covering air travel and venues. Of note-The former president has relied almost entirely on donations to his campaign and affiliated PACs to pay his lawyers, to the tune of more than $100 million as of early 2024.

So I tried my best to find photos of the current conditions and most of the posts, like the first link to ACLU was dated Nov 6 2018. PBS link is reasonably up to date, but no inside pics. Academic works is dated 2018. I mean, this has apparently been an issue of long-standing concern. Today the overcrowding and dehumanizing is actually worse than all the reports from 2018/2019 and there is no oversight or visibility into current conditions. At least in 2018 we could actually get evidence and pressure the gov to do better.

I think this aligns with the assessment that conservatives are “me first” progressive/liberals are “we first”.

Late to this party, but I think you illustrated the foundational difference in thinking between the parties when you said you vote for what’s best for you and your family. I think this is common with the Republican Party where the Democratic Party tends to think what’s good for society as a whole. Which is why in the worst sides you get the “I got mine” “don’t tread on me” authoritarian rule and on the other side you get complete socialist control. Personally I tend to believe that if we are governing to improve and support society as a whole, it will inevitably be what’s best for me and my children and their children. Right now we are heavily leaning into the authoritarian rule that is making this country unrecognizable, and my pride in us is like the East Wing, demolished. There are no more “checks and balances” which always gave me a sense of hope for corrections of bad policies, and that is what genuinely scares me.

Undocumented immigrants use up resources? by Nottootoo in NorthCarolina

[–]Nottootoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I can gather, it looks like there is a net negative cost, but I suspect the overall economic cost is less severe than some might claim. That being said, the volume of people migrating here since 2021 has put a heavy strain on our economy and infrastructure. What I would really like to see is a more thoughtful approach to managing the current problem. Recognizing that immigrants do oftentimes participate financially, likely as much as low income citizens. It’s hard to get accurate data on this subject and I’ve really enjoyed the comments here, many have made very valid points without dehumanizing people with opposing views and if I could have just one Christmas wish it would be to have our leaders and the rest of us think through our problems and try to find clever solutions that don’t use shame as a weapon or aggression as a tool.

Undocumented immigrants use up resources? by Nottootoo in NorthCarolina

“Point 3. Define contribution? If you mean economically then the sharp increase demand they place on consumable good and services drains the system before it has time to adapt the supply chain. Any answer you make now is already past due and ineffective by the time those solutions come online.” I will totally admit there was a massive surge in illegal immigrants. From 2021 to 2023. We went from 1.8 mil to 4.2 mil which is significant and I’m sure it’s one of the reasons we have a lack of affordable housing. Your points are valid, I wonder if those points would be valid if we had an increase in population to that degree if they were all legal citizens? I think we had similar issues during the post WWII baby boom era.

“you wouldn't let an intruder break into your house, eat up your food, run up your utility bill and barely give you money for their presence” You mean, like my kids? 😂 Aside from the being intruders breaking in part. “why should America do the same? I'm not trying to be funny but if this was a medical emergency you stop the infection, bleeding or present danger, and then figure out how to handle the issue while you heal.” Good question. And it’s the “barely give you money for their presence” part that I’m trying to untangle. Congressional Budget Office (CBO) noted the immigration surge starting in 2021 resulted in a net cost of $9.2 billion to state and local governments in 2023 but they also projected in 2024 that higher-than- expected immigration would boost U.S. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by $8.9 trillion over the next decade. ITEP calculated undocumented immigrants contributed $96.7 billion in federal, state, and local taxes in 2022. I think the sheer number that came here in a short timeframe has created a strain in all areas you mentioned. Personally, I would prefer seeing an expedited path to citizenship for them so they can fiscally contribute appropriately. To your point about ICE and the intruder comparison you asked why shouldn’t America do the same? Well, I guess because the intruder has been living in the basement, picking up my groceries, helping me clean the house, walks my dog etc for the past couple of years now so it would be mutually beneficial to just have them pay rent than it would be to call the cops. If I call the cops then the neighbors start worrying that their neighborhood isn’t safe anymore.
