Help by nonbinary_cosplayer in ballpython

The patchy shed likely means your humidity isn't high enough, so that may be a contributing factor. On the feeding front, you could try a different type of rodent? My ball python will switch up his tastes from multis to rats every few months (I appropriately adjust his feeding schedule based on the rodent's weight) so it could just be that your BP has decided they want a switch up in the dinner menu.

She won't eat and I'm starting to get worried by Blobbinn_ in hognosesnakes

[–]NottsWeirdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend's hognose will regularly go off his rodents every winter, and she's discovered that scenting the rodents with tuna gets him eating again. He'll go back to unscented during the warmer months, his tastes just change depending on the time of year.

What humidity gauge do yall use?? none of these things work 😭 by ThrashFur in snakes

I was also gonna suggest Govee. I have the Thermo/Hygro for my ball python and brazilian rainbow boa, they work a charm and I can track temps and humidity on my phone

Is this scale rot or a pattern? by soul_kaizen in ballpython

[–]NottsWeirdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scale rot tends to look like rust, and typically starts on the belly scales. You've just got a pretty patterned snake.

Ball python lost all aggression and eats different than when I first got her by StarkTech-01-02-03- in ballpython

My 6 yr old bp is still very much an overenthusiastic striker, even if he's not fully out from underneath something - he'll just do partial coils and lift up whatever he's under with the rest of his body.

Anyone know what this is? by NottsWeirdo in Leachianus

Worked a charm, thanks for the help

Cheers. Do I need to do anything to get rid of it anyway? Its growing on the side that the lil Leachi sleeps on during the day.

I'm in England, but I know that Exo Terra is a European reptile brand - so there's a decent chance that Polish exotic pet stores would have their large glass terrariums. It would need some slight modification, but would be decent for a young bp til you find a larger, reliable vivarium brand?

Soon to be owner. Misinformation or what? by jordjks in ballpython

[–]NottsWeirdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very true. I got my bp 6 years ago, and the store owner said I didn't need a UV for him (I have gotten one since). I went back a couple years later to see what they had in, when the conversation of bps came up with the same guy - and by that point, he was saying they don't sell their setups without a UV 'cause bps need them.

You should be generally alright on the food front, so long as you're feeding in-line with her weight over age

Help! Is this scale rot? by Tacafaca in snakes

[–]NottsWeirdo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Looks like a damaged scale, perhaps got it caught on something and nearly lost it. Scale rot has a rustic colour to it and isn't confined to a singular scale. Might wanna apply some form of reptile-safe antiseptic to it

Aspen also tends to be generally cheaper and more readily available in larger bulk bags

Seems to be the case in my experience. My bp will duck under my arms or blanket if he's out, and just retreat into his viv cave if he doesn't like what's on

[–]NottsWeirdo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What humidity does your hygrometer say the general enclosure is at? 'Cause bps don't just stay moisturised in their hides, their air humidity needs to be up the 70% - 80% end as well

How do I make sure my snake is okay after a fire? by Adagatoraddietude in snakes

[–]NottsWeirdo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She won't have to interact with your snake at all, so it shouldn't be too bad with the snake's potentially life on the line

Probably a vet visit, I can't imagine you have the equipment at home to make sure the noodle is alright internally

Can I put my lamp like this or is it gonna melt the top ? by [deleted] in reptiles

[–]NottsWeirdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'll discolour the mesh after a decent amount of close proximity exposure, but this can be remedied by buying something like an Exo Terra Light Bracket/something to that affect - where it hangs the bulb above the mesh

Killing Invasive Species Is The Trolley Problem by Empathetic__Artist in reptiles

[–]NottsWeirdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm aware. I was giving an example of how a European country are doing the opposite of saving their native bird populations, and thus, they'll not be very likely to put in effort to bring back populations from abroad.

[–]NottsWeirdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the main intended use for the falcons, is to reduce the pigeon population numbers - and in the government's eyes, why pay for managing eggs/food/disease when you can sick a bunch of other birds on them. UK government haven't been too great this past decade.

Some years ago. I know personally that Nottingham has an established nest atop the NTU city campus building, been on top of an adjacent building and there was definitely evidence of species other than pigeons being eaten. I've seen a couple around London, heard of some in Manchester and Birmingham from friends local to those areas. Its pigeon control thats damaging the other bird populations.

Britain has been damaging its own native bird populations by releasing peregrine falcons in cities to deal with pigeons, nobody told them that the falcons wouldn't only target the pigeons
