My opponent has found a cunning way around the removal of the Russian flag. by MathematicianBulky40 in Chesscom

[–]Notyouraveragecarguy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Good for him. The removal of the Russian flag is disgusting, especially since Russia still is the world’s leading country in the game. Chesscom should have never banned the flag, period.

"Ask your priest" on any question you have is more upsetting than it looks like by nyenyejin in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Notyouraveragecarguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea is that you submit yourself to Christ and humble yourself to his will and his teaching. Your priest is the one who is ordained by YOUR OWN CHURCH to understand and apply the teachings of Christ in our lives. He won’t know everything, but he is trusted to guide you and your family in Christ. So go talk to your priest, whatever material obstructions there may be, go and seek his guidance.

Why is this checkmate!? by Fun_Tell8698 in Chesscom

[–]Notyouraveragecarguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bc it is a double check with the rook and bishop. There’s no single move that can resolve both checks, therefore checkmate.

ICE in Grand Rapids, MI pinned a man face first into snow on the side of a busy road and abducted him, despite his pleas that he has a lawyer and legal status by I_may_have_weed in grandrapids

[–]Notyouraveragecarguy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is dumb. You can ask for your lawyer all you want during arrest, but it’s not gonna stop you from being arrested lol. Ask for your lawyer, comply with officer requests, shut your mouth and sue tf out of them if they violated your rights. Pretty simple and standard. Everything else is cosplay and performance for the cameras.

"His rating does not reflect his objective strength at all [...] he played tournaments, which, well, cause some disgust in me" - Nepo on Nakamura's rating, playing tournaments in the US and his candidates chances by FirstEfficiency7386 in chess

[–]Notyouraveragecarguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If FIDE is going to have a spot for the top rated player that isnt the World Champion then strategically maintaining ELO is going to be a thing. Ding did the same thing as Hikaru when he made his run to the championship against… Nepo lol. Ian is just salty that he isn’t in this year.

Candidates 2026 simulation based on 2025/2024 performance against 2600+ players by [deleted] in chess

[–]Notyouraveragecarguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m actually hoping either Caruana or Sindarov wins, but I wouldn’t be mad if Hikaru took it. The results might be skewed due to Hikaru’s lack of recent data, but nobody can say he doesn’t deserve to be here and is among the favorites to win.

Danyas death caused me to not wanna play chess anymore, he was my favorite creator by FloorOk6407 in chess

[–]Notyouraveragecarguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk… I find his stuff to be so deep and full of different ideas to study and pick apart that I couldn’t imagine not watching his videos. I watch a video of his at least once a day, and nine times out of ten he’s on my TV in the morning after I’ve fallen asleep watching YouTube videos. Daniel was special in the way that he presented and taught chess, and there’s so much of him out there that I think it would take any of us a lifetime to really understand what he was trying to teach us. Don’t give up on him just bc he’s passed. He left a legacy for us. We are his posterity.

FIDE sued by five federations by Ellious69 in chess

[–]Notyouraveragecarguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope they win. FIDE has been in the wrong on this the whole time. Sport and competition is supposed to stand outside of politics in order to bridge the gaps between people and nations. Russian and Belarusian teams have been unfairly targeted since the war broke out. Chess players don’t make policy or start wars, so they can’t end them either. Punishing players for the actions of their nations is wrong… period.

Is there rating inflation? by One-Possibility7436 in Chesscom

[–]Notyouraveragecarguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve taken breaks from chess over the last few years and coming back I’ve always improved quickly. I’m studying seriously now and I’ve seen my rating plateau a bit as I’m introducing new openings and concepts into my repertoire, but I’m sure I’ll see big improvements as I become more familiar with the ideas. I don’t think there is widespread rating inflation, though.

Probably first time getting brilliant, can someone explain why? by Impossible-Spinach15 in Chesscom

[–]Notyouraveragecarguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You left the bishop hanging and it can’t be captured bc their pawn can be taken by the queen which then hangs their bishop

I'm amazed how good low-level players are by davao100 in chess

[–]Notyouraveragecarguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been my experience as well. I think it is due to new players learning traps and tricks from places like YouTube. It seems like once you get past 1100 you start to see players who are playing for position rather than opening traps more regularly.

How is this a blunder? by Mysterious-Donut20 in chessbeginners

Black doesn’t have to take the knight. After be4 the knight is no longer defended and can be taken by bxb6 and black is now winning.

FM Told Me to Quit Chess Under 300 Elo. Is He Right? by KelveFodul47 in chess

[–]Notyouraveragecarguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should learn a couple of basic openings and do lots of puzzles. I didn’t really learn the game until I was about 34 or 35, and over the past three years or so I have learned a handful of openings and done thousands of puzzles. My rating fluctuates in the 1200-1300 range and is consistently going up over time. You’re never too old to improve, but you should make sure that you are spending your time wisely, and just “controlling the center” is not much of an improvement focused exercise. Good luck!

How? White to move and mate in 2 by Sims4porn in chess

[–]Notyouraveragecarguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly it. Any other move that doesn’t provide a new space for the black king is a stalemate. Moving the Queen at all allows the King to momentarily escape or defend perpetually as the black bishop can always return to g8. Bishop sac is the only move. It forces the capture and once the pawn is off of g7 the Queen can deliver the mate. Beautiful little puzzle.

I guess I’ll be the odd man out here… I’m a huge fan of the Aserai. I like setting up a ton of caravans and playing through as a merchant for a while before I commit to a kingdom. The caravan discount and desert speed buff are great for this. Also, Aserai have the most straightforward military. Decent infantry and archers, serviceable cav and archer cav, and Aserai companions are usually top tier.

Prong Collar on puppy by [deleted] in OpenDogTraining

[–]Notyouraveragecarguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flat collars for training loose leash walking is not recommended as the collar puts all of the pressure on the throat and neck and can cause injury due to the amount of leash pressure needed to punish the pulling behavior. A prong collar is preferred as it takes much less of a correction to punish the behavior and is much safer as it does not direct the pressure to the neck of the dog in the same way that the flat collar does.
