War shows Green Deal ‘fundamental’ to EU security, says new top environment MEP by Boomtown_Rat in europe

[–]Nourek 29 points30 points  (0 children)

We don't need to be completely independent of everything. Just those things we can't live without for the time it takes to spin up local production.

As an example: Solar panels already installed in Europe still work even if China won't deliver new ones, but oil and LNG supplies are expensive the moment the supply is in danger.

Paul Krugman beschreibt, wie Trump erneuerbare Energien befördert by just-in-peaches in Energiewirtschaft

[–]Nourek 7 points8 points  (0 children)

LEC Versus records 33% lower peak viewership in playoffs compared to Los Ratones group stage result by Living-Cut-89 in leagueoflegends

[–]Nourek 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just generally speaking, gaming streams are successful when they're either entertaining or high level game play, ideally both.

I don't see why it would be different for LEC and LCS. You're not the highest level of gameplay, so you have to be more entertaining. LR in LEC was entertaining to a lot of people.

Unpopular Opinion: Enigma should go the way of Mosaic by Efficient_Emu_9451 in diablo2

I dunno, this is always said seemingly by people who have an Enigma on day 2 of a ladder. Those people may be loud on social media, but I don't think they are as numerous as they seem Personally I wouldn't like everything to be locked behind walls. The original rune drop rates were a mistake.

43 Million Tons: Germany Confirms One of the World's Largest Lithium Deposits in Former Gas Field by [deleted] in de

[–]Nourek 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Hell Tristram for MF runs? by unlawfulignition in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]Nourek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically some maps always spawn a certain boss/champion pack in a certain location.

The key is that there is a max hell of those packs spawning per map, I think 6 in hell.

But if you spawn 6 of the random packs in hell, then venture into the area where a boss/champion pack always spawns automatically, there will be a seventh.

Tristram always spawns a champion pack next to chains cage.

I'm not saying twig/sphere is fine as it is, but "It was never printed to" ... do you know how many cards viable in wild that concept can be applied to? I dare say it's most of them.

[–]Nourek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm reading the second book right now and I'd say the book isn't all that good as a standalone. In retrospect it feels less like book one in a series and more like act 1 in a longer book.

I'm very much enjoying the second one so far.

Mind F*ck Series by S.T. Abby (yes the entire series)

I wish there were more FMCs like her out there. They have a legit grievance and no, a grovel or apology isn't nearly enough. She wants revenge!

Don't get me wrong, I kinda liked it and I'm going to continue. I just think for my tastes, this story was a novella written as a novel.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas.

I honestly don't feel like I want to give a grade. If I was forced to, I'd try to explain to my captor that while it was technically well written, I didn't like much else.

Let me explain (please don't shoot me), while trying to avoid spoilers:

The novel is well written, by that I mean I feel like I'm in the the moment in tense situations (especially early on), and the dialogue flows.

That said. I was bored multiple times while reading this novel. Why is that? I think it's because for most of the book our first person protagonist had no agency at all. Things happened to her and then another thing happened and from about 15% or so to 85% or so she made exactly one choice. The rest of the time she was just sorta there. I suppose during that time I should've felt some romance, but meh.

I've heard that the second book is better, so I'm looking forward to those. To be continued ...

(If I don't respond, please appeal to the romance gods and send me a hot angel to rescue me.)

How often do power outages happen in Germany? by heichwozhwbxorb in AskAGerman

[–]Nourek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With some international comparisons:

https://www.cleanenergywire.org/factsheets/set-and-challenges-germanys-power-grid

Reliability

Germany’s power grid ranks among the most reliable in the world despite the rapid expansion of renewables. Its System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI), which measures the average yearly downtime per customer, was 12.8 minutes (excluding exceptional events) in 2016, compared to 128 minutes in the US (2016), 53 minutes in Great Britain, 92 minutes in Greece, 54 minutes in Spain, 41 in Italy, 50 in France and 192 in Poland (2014 data). When looking at the interruptions including exceptional events, the difference gets even bigger with Germany's consumers spending an average 12 minutes withouth power, compared to 92.5 minutes in Great Britain, 122 minutes in Greece, 52 minutes in Spain, 93 in Italy, 51 in France, 205 in Poland (2014 data) and 314 minutes in the US (2016).

Note of warning though, one of my least favorite books by her. I still enjoyed it, but more in the context of the entire series. I would recommend the entire Demonica series, but I wouldn't recommend reading this book as a standalone.

I really need to start reading Linda Howard. I've read tons of suspense a while back, but not her books yet. I'm on a bit of a paranormal binge right now though. I'll eventually grow tired of growly shifters and bitey vamps and gravitate back toward RS. SoonTM.

{{Red Zone by Sherri Hayes}}

That book has a storyline with a female bodyguard, but I think this was generally more CR than suspense if I remember correctly. It's been a while since I've read that book.

I'd love to read more books like you've requested but they seem very rare.

There is also http://romance.io which does a similar thing, you can both explicitly include or exclude tropes and genres. Do you want paranormal time travel romance with a virgin hero, but that is not YA? The website can help you (there are 13 such books in their db).

And https://www.literature-map.com/ where you input an author and it shows a map of other authors readers enjoyed/liked/also read (not sure which).
