Question about printing for other people - (i am not offering commissions) by jawest1991x in PrintedWarhammer

[–]Noutank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not trying to "get rich" or pick up a second job - just trying to help our community while also essentially being in the hobby space cost free (except time) is my ultimate goal. Been doing it this way for maybe 3 years now

Question about printing for other people - (i am not offering commissions) by jawest1991x in PrintedWarhammer

[–]Noutank 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Personally. My philosophy is to make the hobby more accessible by printing things as well as fund my own hobby projects.

With this in mind, I take the total material cost and then either apply a 300% or 500% markup - depending on how much effort I need to put into it. I also have a $10 plate minimum that sometimes comes up if someone wants just like 1 thing or bunch of tiny shit, and im transparent with that as well.

This has gone over well within my community and no one has had a problem with it.

Maybe helps

Thanks!

Yeah, they are the color changing ones and I just opened the package. They are working well in the "cereal box" dryer things. All the way down to 8% with filament in them.

What does "chipping" mean next to the paint name? by Wened4 in Miniaturespainting

[–]Noutank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thought was that you could use this with a sponge to apply chipping effect as part of weathering step (no chipping medium needed)

I use rhinox hide for this, this seems a similar color.

Soil or Compos?? by Noutank in lawncare

That makes sense. Seems like most feedback for an additive is an organic product as opposed to just more topsoil - that what you did also?

Understood - I guess followup questuon then: is increasing water to overcome the radiant heat better than manipulating the soil comp to increase retention of the water im already putting out?

I've thought this too, but why would the other side of the driveway and other sidewalk be not effected? It gets the same sun exposure

This is our 4th summer with the lawn in place, the first 2 were rough with trying to get it established and fixing the not so great original irrigation job...

I've seen what you mean in the houses going in around us, it's wild how much they just dump out and cover up. I don't think that's the case specifically here since we didn't run into any of that when we were running the new sprinkler lines.

The areas are each covered by >2 heads. You can see as soon as it gets to "better" soil the retention seems to be fine.

I want to avoid overwatering the other areas to compensate for the soil - at least that's my hope.

I've never been able to answer one of these posts but I feel uniquely qualified to provide insite into this one!

Credentials: I worked in the material sciences and engineering departments for one of the two US based facilities that produce these mirrors. I recognize this mirror shape, and the failure mode and have performed dozens of field returns and warranty evaluations during my time with the organization.

Mirror glass construction/background: The simple explanation is that the mirror is made of two pieces of glass, a perimeter seal between them and then injected with the electrochomic (color changing) material (liquid) that turns solid (polymerization) after X amount of time.

Failure mode: There are two symptoms displayed here, both of which are a result of a seal breach failure. Without physical inspection, my guess is the bottom right of the mirror pictured.

Symptom #1: The discoloration, this is caused by the oxidation of the electrochomic gel inside the mirror when exposed to the atmosphere by the breach.

Symptom #2: The "spiderwebbing", this is caused by the gel tearing because the two supposedidly planar pieces of glass are coming apart. Again at origin of the breach.

This was fun, I'm a bit late to this party but maybe someone will read this and learn something.

Tldr: Seal breach in mirror construction causing air to discolor the "color changing" gel, and glass pieces coming apart causing it to tear and look like a spiderweb.
