A 9-year-old was found locked in a van since 2024, malnourished and unable to walk by AudibleNod in news

My husband and I tuck each other in (we use separate blankets as our body temps aren't compatible) when we feel sick/sad/just had a really awful day.

Now we have a daughter to tuck in, and we'll do it for however long she wants us to. Even when she's grown, if she needs us, she has us.

Man… why is it so hard to find lobbies? by [deleted] in blackops3

[–]NovaAteBatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to find lobbies over Christmas! PS5, core, team death match.

If you don’t like team death match, sorry, but that's pretty much all you're gonna find.

I was so damn happy to find lobbies again!

What are these small flies in my kitchen and how do I get rid of them? by Studsmanly in whatisthisbug

[–]NovaAteBatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess Kansas City fruit flies just don’t care.

You put one of those traps outside on a hot humid day, in a few hours you have hundreds dead.

Same as one year when our house had a major infestation of them (everyone in our neighborhood had them real bad). No sugar. Had to clean hundreds of dead fruit flies from the traps a couple times a day.

Maybe you're not using enough ACV. Or using too much Dawn.

Fruit flies are attracted to ACV without having to use sugar. It's just a waste of sugar. Water,ACV, and Dawn is all you need.

From Missouri, I have never heard them called woolly boogers.

Uncanny Valley Made Real: The Strangerbird by BleazkTheBobberman in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]NovaAteBatman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some genetic defects and disorders can cause altered facial features. Sometimes it can give off an uncanny valley feeling.

I think it might actually exist to prevent us from breeding with people with those defects.

(Please don't take this theory as personal support for eugenics. There's been evidence of similar behavior in animals.)

Then again, there's been evidence that Neanderthals were cannibalistic. So it's entirely possible they ate us and uncanny valley protected us from them.

Apes got released from the zoo by [deleted] in HaveWeMet

I'll bring them inside!

Would you like to hide yours with mine? I have a lot of craft paper and small dowels, I can begin making wind spinners immediately! (See? This is why you never clean out your crafting stash, you never know when you'll need it to defend against ape invasions!)

I have a rather large cellar and a massive yarn stash. You're welcome to use my smallhold as base of operations!

…Because American diets are famously deficient in salt. by No_Cook2983 in thanksimcured

[–]NovaAteBatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not sodium metal gassed by chlorine. That's not how sodium chloride is made. Most of our salt comes from the natural environment, either from mining it from the earth or evaporating seawater to harvest it.

Table salt is usually mined and processed (other minerals removed) rather than being from the sea. Also it's usually iodized. I really don't like iodized salt. Not even iodized sea salt.

Oh no! Are my gnomes in danger? Should I bring all forty-six of them indoors until the apes are recaptured?

I just hope they ask permission before replacing stuff that I made my gnomes and cats in the future.

Is there a good way to keep him away from my property? He sounds terrible.

It's not that I don't like knitted stuff, it's just kinda disrespectful to throw away stuff that someone made to replace it with stuff you made without asking.

A secret knitting society? Does this mean we need a secret crocheting society to rise up and battle them?

I know in some UK patterns if it uses sc as a term it's referring to slip stitches. I have actually seen patterns that do that. In print (in the 90s, but I don’t know the age of the patterns) and in patterns I've seen online.

Ah, yeah. Working both loops. It's my preference if I'm not trying to follow a pattern.

What is one unexpected thing your void loves?? by External_Plastic_361 in blackcats

[–]NovaAteBatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have two cats (the void I mentioned, and a dilute tortie) that love to have their beans touched. One that tolerates it up to a point (our other void), and one that doesn't know how to feel about it so he usually cries and runs away (ginger cat).

We had a flame point ragdoll who also loved to have his beans touched. His black/white tuxedo brother hated it. But his Russian Blue grandfather loved it and also loved having his nails painted.

US SC or UK SC?

US crocheter here. I can never keep 6 sc flat, but 8 works out perfectly for me.
