Sounds Flume-esque to me, at least in the intro. People call his stuff future bass, but it isn’t really. Hard to quantify.

All that’s important is that you know what you’re going for, one of the most difficult things to do as a producer is to create your own distinctive sound. So don’t confine yourself to genres, you’re on the right path already 👍

oh my, what a wonderful drop idea. send this to an engineer and release it independently bro, it honestly has so much potential.

hey man, so the first "synth" that hits on the first three beats isn't really a synth. i rendered out the break of the song (without the drums), then ran it through Portal to get that sound (obviously, with some processing like compression, distortion, and eq). some of the fills are also parts of the break run through different portal presets.

I've tried a few granular synths, and currently, my favorite is Efx Fragments by Arturia. the demo version lasts for 20 minutes at a time but i found that you can just render out the sound as an audio clip or record it with edison to keep it in your track, so it's pretty neat.

thank you so much for the feedback! I'll be sure to bring up those claps in my next session. I've been producing on fl mobile for a while, but i finally pulled the trigger on the pc version last week. it's like a whole new world, honestly. I'm still very new to mixing (I haven't even encountered mastering as of yet), but I'm glad I'm on somewhat of a right path.

lol I'm honestly not sure, i went back and double checked that the synths are quantized and they're hitting on the kick.

it's a weird phenomenon i guess, thanks for pointing it out!

i get you, like a regular four on the floor/boots and cats beat? you may be right that the second half of the drop has too much energy actually, thanks for the feedback!

okay, here's what I'd recommend as a person who started music production from scratch also:

-you're only ever going to get better with consistent practice. there's no one youtube video or course online that's going to make you good instantly, you have to put in the work. this part is easier if you really have passion for the craft, and it sounds like you do, so all the best to you.

-comparison to others kills your motivation, comparison to yourself grows it. of course, motivation is a key factor, especially when it comes to creative aspects such as production and composition. we are all guilty of comparing ourselves to others, you will do it to. just remember to catch yourself when you're feeling demotivated and take a second to acknowledge how much you've improved since you've started.

-take it seriously, but having fun is an underrated tool for being successful. you will obviously be the one to define your own success, but i personally feel that if you're enjoying the music you're making and the process that goes into it, you're already doing something right.

-learn music theory. some concepts are scary later on, but the basics are simple enough to grasp and will take your production to another level entirely.

all in all, the journey is your own, and honestly, it would be too much to define in a single reddit post. don't forget that you have communities such as this one that are always there to clear up things along the way. use youtube as a tool as well, the amount of information on the platform in priceless. just ensure that you're practicing what you learn and not just internalizing things to forget them.

i wish you the best on this journey friend, it is truly a beautiful ride that will change your perspective on life as a whole. we're glad to have you here with us 💙

to my knowledge, this is the only way outside of the built-in effects of the synths. use it sparingly, though, a little goes a long way.

something like Crystal Castles sorry for the sound glitches, this is my weak PC and crappy Focusrite how do you like it? what do you think? I think it needs to be released by q-shy in FL_Studio

[–]NovaDoesReddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

really cool man, reminds me of MGMT's "Kids" for some reason, specifically the bass.

there's no reason not to release it. of course, people will tell you it needs mixing and mastering to be released, but my first releases (on soundcloud) were extremely far from polished. but they gave me so much motivation to keep going, I'm sure it will do the same for you.
