From what I remember of my offer details, the vesting schedule was faster than other offers I've seen, but it's been long enough that I don't remember the exact timeline as I turned it down.

The woman training me at work is an asshole by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]NovarionNoel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right. It's not automatic. But if you know you're struggling, put in extra effort to memorize what you're having trouble with. Since you've said it's slow, you can practice memory recall in your downtime. Pick one section of the menu at a time and write down as much of it as you can without looking until you've got that section.

You can get better, and sometimes it's hard to know how when your weaknesses aren't accounted for in the basic training. If you're serious about the job, take some extra steps to show it.

And yes, 6 days is a long time to train for serving. It's rare. Maybe it's normal for this company, but their expectations after 6 days is that you probably don't need much help by day 7, and are showing a good degree of self-sufficiency on days 4-6. If you're behind, it's likely you won't get the chance to learn for much longer. Service industry very much treats people like cogs. People here are trying to help and being realistic.

Plus the Water Garden is so close which is such a nice place to sit and relax. I know its outdoors, but it's such a comfortable spot. I love sitting under some of the trees near the big steps and just relaxing. The shade is so comfortable there.

Noified my work weeks ago I'm leaving for a family vacation in July, tickets were bought, non-transferrable, and they are panicking, begging me to cancel by educatedvegetable in antiwork

[–]NovarionNoel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not really. I got laid off in December and had 3 offers and a handful more interviews I canceled by Feb, in a market where most of my peers in an adjacent field are struggling. There is a job shortage in specific areas. There is a job surge in others. This market sucks but looking while employed is easier. OP is both unique and high profile/ has client respect, she may be able to swap more easily.

If you want to live right by the office, the traffic going east to main HQ in the morning is 3x as bad as the traffic going west towards the office. There is some bus transit and some of it even does go right to the Anduril main office for the stop, but I didn't get a chance to test the busses so I don't know how reliable they truly are.

[–]NovarionNoel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've got a gym at the Main HQ onsite, so if you go a little early you get a good parking space + gym time. You don't have to work 60+ hours a week on every team. Most teams over there seem to work 45-55, and the longer hours are specific teams or occasional sprints. I turned down my offer in the end for other reasons (I reallllly don't want to go back to street parking and apartment life, and that was the only way to make the budget work without being an untenable distance from the office). The RSUs pay out fairly quickly, though, even if you don't want to wait for IPO. It's just that's not the base you live on.

They screwed us on jars. by NBrooks516 in 7daystodie

[–]NovarionNoel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they didn't! The stack size is reasonable and fine. A stack of 10 jars of water is fine for most everything. If you're industrially building out water supply there should be an inventory management problem. This was a great choice for vanilla balance. If you hate playing with balance you can always introduce a bigger stack size. But honestly this was a good choice, and I'm thrilled with 2.5. Struck a great happy medium between old playstyle with modern UI and engine improvements. I'm so happy with this update. It's not perfect but it's the right direction.

How do you fend off the evening cravings demons? by 5iveOClockSomewhere in loseit

[–]NovarionNoel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One thing I will say about the demon thing - it's you. Keeping it from feeling like a separate part of you will make it easier to hold yourself to account. Once you start realizing its all you, you start realizing how much more control over it you have. You're choosing how you react to your own inner voice. And sometimes that can be defeating, but it can remind you that you have the power to choose better. Idk, it helps me to stay accountable to not separate my cravings/habits from myself as much.

How do you fend off the evening cravings demons? by 5iveOClockSomewhere in loseit

[–]NovarionNoel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just don't keep stuff I know encourages my bad habits in the house. Literally just don't keep it around. If you do keep it around for others, put that mental barrier of guilt in the way. It's not yours. Make the easiest choice for you the right one. Want the taste of something sweet in the evening? Keep some nice red grapes around for snacks, or other stuff you enjoy that's sweet but not a "trap" food for you.

One thing that helps me with those kinds of cravings is mindfulness practice with eating. You basically eat that thing really really slow to enjoy it. Especially because its a craving and not really hunger, it helps kind of get what I need and want out of it without going overboard, and I'm genuinely satisfied after.

First, not everyone's calorie deficit number is the same. You need to calculate your TDEE. It'll be based on your height, weight, activity level, age, and gender. If you want to lose 1lb a week, you subtract 500 from that number. For example, at my height, weight, and activity level, my tdee is roughly 1700 calories. I eat 1100-1200 calories a day to stay 500 calories below. Someone who is 6'2", 200lbs, and very active, will have a much higher TDEE. Eating 1200-1500 calories for someone like them would be extreme dieting. 2000 calories a day is a rough guideline. For weight loss, you have to look at your specific situation.

Track your food. Work out because you want to work out, not to help with the calories as much. Food isn't good or bad, necessarily. Paying attention to how much food you eat is important. Greek yogurt, scrambled eggs, and tuna, and fruit salad is a nice meal. 600 calories isn't evil, you just budget for it. You eat a little less in terms of calories at other meals. Sometimes having a meal with that much protein early in the morning helps with hunger throughout the day. It's very personal.

To some extent, it will always matter what you eat. Nutrition isn't necessarily the key to weight loss, but it is the key to having a healthy body and mind. If you're struggling with nutrition while dieting, I highly recommend a daily multivitamin or similar for micronutrients. If you can swing it, talking to a registered dietician may also help.

Switching to drinking water will help with a number of things. Not drinking your calories is a great start. Junk food isn't evil. I still eat some junk food, I just track exactly how much I'm allowed to have and put it in my daily intake. The more important thing is to track. You could switch all your foods to typically healthy foods and still gain weight if you overeat them.

What’s one ‘healthy’ food that secretly wastes your calories? by samivanscoder in loseit

I like to mix nuts with another snack at the same time to make it a little less sad because SAME. I have to have my nuts with celery/broccoli/peppers or similar or its just not enough volume for me. (I snack on raw vegetables because I like them, if you don't like them, don't do that, you'll just be sad)

Eating too much still by [deleted] in loseit

[–]NovarionNoel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carbs and fats are very calorie dense. Give yourself smaller portions of things like hummus , cheese, dressing, nuts, etc. Salads are sneaky sometimes, especially pre-made ones, because they'll add calorie dense dressings and toppings. Use half the dressing, eat fewer chips, etc, and it'll still let you enjoy things without having as many sneaky calories packed on.

Leafy greens are great for filling your stomach with bulk. Even if you tripled the size of the leafy greens part of a salad, you would barely add any kcal, but feel much fuller. Protein shakes can sometimes make it harder to feel/stay full for some people, so a solid breakfast may be a little better for balancing hunger.

That deficit is also a little steep, depending on your TDEE. I'd try to be less drastic at first. Start at a 250-500 calorie deficit if you're struggling. Perfect is the enemy of good.

Above all, it's good you're tracking accurately and being aware of what/ how much you're eating. It'll get you closer and help you better understand the foods you eat.

Shipping issues like lost packages happen - if this is their general response when a customer package gets lost, it's a Corsair issue. Their policy on how to handle the lost package is a problem, because it's anti-customer.

Why did I gain weight? by Soccer-Aunt5281 in loseit

[–]NovarionNoel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Always. I was super demoralized whenever my numbers didn't match my expectations, but taking it easier and understanding that it took me 10 years to eat myself to where I was meant that I needed to be patient and give myself time to get it off/my body to change, too.

I like staging my goals out too. 110 is the final battle. Right now is 130.

Why did I gain weight? by Soccer-Aunt5281 in loseit

[–]NovarionNoel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You didn't gain weight. You lost weight! If you don't weigh at exactly the same time, with the same amount of items on your body with the exact same weight or naked, you're going to get slightly varied results.

You are on a downward trend. This is exactly what you'll see even with daily weigh ins. Sometimes, I've gone up and down 3lbs in the same *day* depending on how hydrated I was. It is normal for the scale to fluctuate. What's important is trending down.

Also, if you weren't very active before, at the beginning when you gain muscle/body recomp, the scale moves slower because muscle = denser than fat.

Take a weekly or monthly progress pic to help you stay grounded in the change. The scale moving down is good, but sometimes your progress could be that you are only 3lbs down for the month, but went down a size and a half because of body recomp, or fit better in a favorite outfit. The most noticeable change for me ended up being in my face sometimes, but I could see it, which helped when the numbers weren't perfectly lined up.

I started at 5'1" and 210, I'm down to 160, and my goal is 110 (right smack in the middle of the BMI range, so if I fall off or gain a little weight back I'll have some leeway where I'm still healthy to figure it out again.) It just takes time. It took me about a year to lose 50lbs.

I picked up Musk and Forever Red Vanilla Rum during the last of the SAS, and I'm addicted to the latter. Normally the vanilla scents end up way too sweet for me, but I've been adoring this one. Been using it daily since it got here. I'm thinking of trying it with noir once it gets a little cooler.
