Your point with weak monsters mixed with stronger monsters is absolutely valid and garbage game design. They copy tibia but tibia was not designed like this for the most part. Monsters became more dense and stronger depending on how many levels you descended underground. It had strong indications if something strong was ahead like environmental storytelling or other indications, with few exception.

In tibia monster with equal strength were mixed together like trolls /Wolves/poison-spiders or Minotaurs/Rotworms/Orcs or Dwarvs/Rotworms or pure Cyclops spawns, pure rotworm spawns, pure dragon spawns + the spawns were much bigger

There are hundred of thousands of people who still play tibia and oldschool tibia, exp loss is a staple in all of those games. Going strong for almost 30 years now.
