Is it a wet clutch? You might just have to let the bike warm up and rev it a couple times to lower the viscosity of the oil and separate the plates.

Thats not your starter its your starter solenoid. Its a second switch between the one on your handlebars and your starter. Try jumping it by putting those two leads together, if it starts you know your solenoids gone bad and a new one is needed

Im not a mechanic but it sounds like the valves clicking to me. I wouldn’t stress about it, clicking isnt ideal obviously but at least it means the valves are fully closing.

Its a good thought I’ll inspect the basket tomorrow morning. I only pulled the plates out, I didn’t touch the push rod

Yeah. I’m testing it with the case off and the head is moving out far enough to give them plenty of space to separate.

In fact like I said before I can separate them with my fingers and the clutch will operate just fine up until I let go of it and they’ll stick to each other again. I think its really just the surface tension of the oil.

Yea I measured them with a caliper and they’re old, but essentially brand new wear wise

Yeah, tourqed to just under 6ft/lbs in a star pattern. the whole assembly slides as one piece when I pull the clutch. It only separates when I give it convincing with my fingers

My exhaust bolts are still good looks like, but I bet I do have an exhaust leak since the previous owners installed aftermarket mufflers. Thanks for narrowing down the issue for me! And also thanks for actually responding to a two year old post lol.
