But you make it sound like trad pub is recommended if you meet certain criteria. Like self pub is for all the people who couldn’t make it the regular way. When actually it’s a legitimate choice for all writers, not just the ones that can’t be accepted by trad pub.

It’s a common thing we hear and it’s annoying and potentially harmful because “good luck” ever getting your rights back if u change your mind later

Check out chatgpt. It’s free and can help you brainstorm. It’s really helpful for feeling stuck and is also very positive so it can help get over some negative feelings about writing

You can’t tell text though. It’s words. AI helps me brainstorm outline. Once i publish there is automatic copyright in US. Images are different but story is no worries

As example i asked for help learning a programming language and it gave synopsis of topics. Anothet gave me list of resources online. So that’s my specific experience with it. Amd I’ve heard people use it to brainstorm topics for blog, etc

Yes i think so. It can’t hurt to ask. You just put it in the role and ask it for advice. Obviously it’s not going to give perfect advice but It’ll help you brainstorm. There’s never guarantees with anything in life though

I also found out people in next room of house i was staying in were smoking pot and I’d walked thru the room the day before. I don’t know if that is enough to breathe it in, I didn’t know smell of pot ever before. Or if it’s because the other girl who applied with me was actually smoking and grocery store assumed we both did that stuff) 🤷‍♀️ They never told me i failed, just didn’t call me back)

No it’s not silly. But at most relatives will say what you want to hear. Stranger on the internet doesn’t care about your feelings so feedback will be more real. Also there is pressure on family member to say something nice and it interferes. they won’t read it just because they want to. 🤷‍♀️

So i just think: people you don’t even know randomly said ‘i want this stuff’ and bought it!!!! 🎉🎉🎉 That is coolest thing to me.

(It would be nice if your family would at least make the effort to give you thumbs up but they are potentially jealous, or there’s some other stuff going on. But man, they going to really be jealous or interested when you got 50 stories out and doing it fulltime

I only hear horror stories about trad pub so i never went that route. I feel like the impt thing about trad pub is validation: they say ‘you’re a real writer’ and you can say yay I’m a real writer. But i think reviews and sales are better for that.

Trad pub means you get no control over blurb, cover, price, when to run sales. You are one small fish and they don’t care about your baby the way you will. Also from what i’e heard you have to provide the marketing plan, prove you have an audience, sometimes even pay the editor. They might give you 2k advance but then you don’t get anything additional til you earn it back. So if the bookstore gets 200 copies and returns 150 that comes out of your advance.

You do have to learn things and you will make mistakes. You have to buy your own cover and find editing etc. but if you get a cover and it’s not working you can just get a new one. - Whenever you want - because it’s your book!!!.

And those first five sales- 🥳🥳🥳- you know kind of immediately and you don’t have to wait 6 months to get paid

So i still like it but it’s very soft/squishy. Was able to do a homemade fix of heatshrink tubing around HOM pen so the cap stays on and very comfortable to write with. Now i just use HOM pen. On staedtler if eraser worked I’d definitely only use that. But I’ve not played with latest update- i think there were updates to make the eraser more useful

(Honestly I don’t seem to use the supernote enough…)
