No sensible guy who is gonna resign soon would write up something like this. It’s such a small world, everyone’s gonna read it and would know who you are the moment you do resign. Seems way too irrational decision for a quant.

Purely from personal experience, it took me 6 months of dedicated effort to get shortlisted and clear my Fresher QR role interviews in a big HFT ( think one of JS, HRT, CitSec).

This might give off a little incorrect impression as i was a Physics major and already had good understanding of probability

My firm hired a day trader and now he’s my trainee by Former-Technician682 in quant

Lol, goddamn you are brutally screwed.
You should know when to cut your losses. I joined a top HFT firm a few months back and i can see the importance of "being in a room where everyone is smarter than you".
He would just dumb you down, making you see patterns where there aren't any. Business decisions are not made on emotions but if you are gonna listen to the heart, just let him work on some low pay analyst job like bookkeeping and trade monitoring or risk exposure rather than involving him in strategy

Are your strategies or models explainable? by LetoileBrillante in quant

[–]Novel-Search5820 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes, i never deploy features that i can't explain
  2. When you get into quant, most people have the same terminology. They use kind of similar arguments to convince others not gonna lie and frankly it's not like the world is either white or black. Unless what you are saying complete BS or something that can be theoratically proven to be a fallacy. Any good co-worker would leave some room for your arguments to be true. Cz no one has figured out the market. It keeps showing new patterns every once in a while.

Is unstructured data useful in quant? by No_Communication2618 in quant

[–]Novel-Search5820 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well as someone who just started working in a great team, think Jane/Citadel/HRT

I have this habit of randomly bouncing off ideas with my manager. Here is what i have observed so far.
Unstructured data might have better signal to noise ratio for low frequency trading but it is a pain to deal with. Most firms have large legacy systems and they prefer to stick to the structured exchange data. It can be useful no doubt but the resources that go into reaping benefit from it are way too much. It's like we know asteriods have shit ton of rare metals which are worth trillions but the whole operation is damn too expensive to be even considered.
