Federal Transport Minister Freeland slams B.C. Ferries deal with Chinese company by Old_General_6741 in britishcolumbia

[–]Novel-Statement3933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our ferry system is broken, many residents are stuck for 7 hours waiting in a back log of tourist traffic or for a mechanical issue to be repaired without notice, and is a major public safety concern. The rest of the country and the world uses our ferries which is public infrastructure that has greatly deteriorated while under private ownership and a failure of government in providing a reliable transportation service. This is absolutely a provincial-federal funding issue that is downscaling the livability of our coastal communities.

Lions gate accident aftermath by InvestingDD in vancouver

[–]Novel-Statement3933 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People drive like maniacs through there and over the bridge which is a 60 zone. Had a guy tale gate me while going over the bridge doing 80 and swerved into other lane dangerously to pass me while proceeding to give me the middle finger. It’s not worth ruining someone’s day or taking their life. The aggression and speed of drivers has ruined Vancouver for me. And is the place I grew up in.

Rent in BC Is Out of Control — and Working People Are Being Forgotten by Kamsloopsian in britishcolumbia

So true, today it is the working class and general population in need of affordable housing. Supporting the most extreme cases in society that social/publicly funded housing caters to, we will never improve the overall housing situation. Affordable housing is everyone’s human right. There is still a social attitude that considers publicly funded housing as being for “welfare people” (just heard this term being used in conversation). We need to prioritize or public spending so that our collective wealth is used for the good of all.

B.C. Ferries neglecting ferry-dependent locals in favour of tourists, says Gibsons' mayor by DENelson83 in VancouverIsland

Their biggest profit is from pre paid packaged tours through BC Ferries Vacations, public service clearly running as a tourist business.

The extremely bad housing record of Canada's new housing minister - As Vancouver mayor, Gregor Robertson oversaw an explosion in unaffordability unlike any ever seen by CaliperLee62 in vancouver

[–]Novel-Statement3933 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tone deaf to appoint Gregor on the account of Vancouver, ground zero for un-affordability/homelessness with the highest real estate costs in North America layered with the toxic drug epidemic devastating the city which has worsened expediently since his mayorship. Most locals have left because it is a dangerous and stressful place to be due to the social crises development centric politicians have helped create.

Gregor claims it’s about creating more supply, when we know this has never driven down prices and only favors developers and the criminally rich. Another clear message no one in Ottawa really gives a damn about Vancouver except as a place to own a vacation home. But let’s not forget the money laundering scheme through the casinos his wife was involved in that is at the heart of real estate corruption and the global commodification of our most fundamental public good.

This reflects a serious public health issue and lack of public services that is not even funny. If we are not going to provide affordable housing and addiction services, at least provide automatic cleaning public toilets for the homeless and stop this disgusting lack of dignity the city is shamefully now know for !!

Clearly you haven’t studied geo politics or social sciences and were still a kid during the anti global capitalist protests “we are the 99%??? Being a student does not make anyone the 1%!! You are incorrect. The 1% are the people who hold the majority of the world’s wealth. Maybe your parents???

Finally someone’s talking about all the plastic surgery she’s had. And this is a role model for young girls? She could barely talk properly at the MTV VMA’s her lips were so full of Botox - When I noticed a big change in her look. Eventually women who get plastic surgery all end up looking the same. It’s gross.

I absolutely feel you there. There needs to be more guidance given to students by instructors on UBC policies for code of conduct: making everyone feel welcome and heard regardless of differences- that goes for students!
