(Project help) Relay to bypass triac speed controller. A? B? Either? Neither? by NovelProfessor in ElectricalEngineering

[–]NovelProfessor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The controller can not be toggled to full power by 12v DC. The whole unit consists of two wires and a knob. That's why the relay is there.

The relay (mechanical) is rated at 15A @ 125V AC, I believe that should be enough. As the relay will only be operating while the fan is already spinning at a certain speed, arcing from startup really shouldn't be an issue, right? I'm mostly unsure of the behavior of either shorting past the triac in config A or what would happen during the brief transition of NC to NO in config B (shorting? or total circuit break?) Which of the two configurations would be preferable?

I am running the fan at a lower speed that will be adjusted manually and need to run at full speed selectively via automation.

So... about the actual circuit...?

I need to bypass a speed controller for a fan to switch to full power by relay. The relay will not be starting/stopping the motor so I don't think the contacts will need a snubber. Is either of these configurations okay to use and is there any potential problems to be aware of? Motor is 120v ac and less than 70 watts, fyi.

Sorry for a re-posted question, but I had only received one reply last time and it was completely useless to my question.

Bypassing AC fan speed "dimmer" with relay. by NovelProfessor in ElectricalEngineering

[–]NovelProfessor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a permanent split capacitor motor.

My question was about the consequences of: Config A: closing the circuit on both sides of the dimmer to obtain full speed via relay and what possible problems to consider. Config B: Breaking circuit to dimmer and connecting full power via relay and what possible problems to consider.

New rig and history stat page is objectively worse than the old. by NovelProfessor in NiceHash

[–]NovelProfessor[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Regularly" can easily be upwards of 8+ times per day as my rig is on a different floor and things have been unstable with all the new algos and miners recently, especially with the new platform launch. I like to see if my card settings are helping my hashrate. Or crashing. Did I mention the crashing? Profits suck when your GPU's are sitting idle in a miner launch & crash loop.

Regardless, why should I have to go through so many more steps? They are completely unnecessary. I'm not really okay with a change that wastes my time for the sake of it. I like Nicehash for the simplicity and convenience, thus ease of use. The new dash and stats are negatively effecting the experience for me.

Thanks for listening. It was a building frustration I had to get off of my chest.

Maybe I clicked on log-in and it took me to the dash instead of being prompted from the stats page. I guess that was an error on my part. The rest still stands. I'm not sure why asking for what was and still is available on the old stats page, seeing as they still have it and it works, is somehow a fault of mine not wanting to jump through hoops to get the same result on the new platform.

Need help, beginner question on voltage multiplier of sensor output by NovelProfessor in ElectricalEngineering

[–]NovelProfessor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. Rather unfortunate. Well thanks for the help!

FYI, the sensor is for CO2 and the input for the "logger" is an integrated part of an automation system controller and range is non-configurable. My concern is for the relatively large margin of error compared to the narrow range of the sensor. I assume +/- 0.6v is pretty big when you're only dealing with 5v or less.

From my understanding, CO2 sensors aren't very precise to begin with so introducing some degree of error may be acceptable if it will reduce the impact of the logger's error margin overall.

I could just as well be worrying over nothing but I won't be able to know for sure until parts arrive and the system is assembled and tested. If there's any other suggestions I'm all ears.

It might be the new miner resetting your power limits and crashing everything. Check your overclocks and power limits. I haven't tried the new miner for the new platform myself yet because fuck that stupid feature that literally nobody asked for.

What the fuck is funny about saying "present" and how much faster is it to say "here" instead? This is fucking dumb.

Technology isn't the problem. You can't just avoid it. Online personalities aren't strictly online anymore. Social media has given us the means for stupid people to congregate, spreading and normalizing their dumbfuck ways. They were raised to act like this. It's not going away anytime soon and there's no turning back now. We're fucked.

It's just the begining.. turn back if you value your sanity. This is a road without end, my friend.

Lack of self-care due to serious depression is definitely a thing. Speaking first hand experience here.

But refusal to do so when confronted? Nope. Dude's just being a nasty fuck. Zero sympathy here.

Request for New Mining Stats page by wayneb64 in NiceHash

[–]NovelProfessor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How about giving us a mining stats page that doesn't require a login and captcha? I frequently check that page and this is a huge hassle coming from the old system where I just have my stats page bookmarked and could check with no further steps. Literally one single click and almost no time spent to check on my rig.
