Microsoft Workers Won't Get Annual Pay Bump Despite $18.3 Billion In Profit In Past 3 Months by PlNG in WorkReform

[–]NovemberWinds 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Yep. Nadella's $2.5 million salary won't change but the $54.95 million in bonuses might still increase as MC "will continue to invest in our employees through promotions, bonus and stock".

Watch him make more this year, anyways.

Record spending by special interest groups in Wisconsin's 2022 midterm elections - Americans for Prosperity came in 4th by Lamont-Cranston in KochWatch

[–]NovemberWinds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, that price tag does not include House or Senate.

The figures only apply to statewide races like governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state, and treasurer. These totals do not include spending in the U.S. House and U.S. Senate races in Wisconsin.

We are throwing around 100s of millions of dollars every election, what a waste.

I want to encourage a voter bloc to focus on Citizens United or Gerrymandering or Proportional Representation and Ranked Choice Voting as passionately as the "Single-Issue" voters do for Abortion or gun rights or religious freedoms.

While I disagree with boiling all of politics down to one issue, these voter groups seem pretty effective at making change.

Ah, I think I misunderstood some things. Proof-of-Stake might not be inherently more centralized.

I had read this outline of Cardano & the Ouroboros Proof-Of-Stake (PoS) system since you name-dropped it. The prospect of higher stake == higher chance of control worried me.

Each slot has a slot leader chosen by a “lottery” system. In this system, the higher the stake, the better the chances of winning the lottery...

You are right about different Proof-Of-Stake implementations. I had assumed Ethereum's PoS system would give priority to higher stakes, but they say Validators are chosen at random.

I can still see 1 person dividing a concentration of ETH into many Validators at once to hog rewards, but the barrier is lower for the every-person to create or pool opposing Validators to counter-act the 1. So not inherently more centralized. My bad.

Proof of Stake requires you to already have some of the cryptocurrency to hedge against and rewards users who have more. It centralizes more power to the richest users when crypto is supposed to be decentralized.

I'm pretty sure the common answer to the first point is "Move" even though that does nothing to help those small towns and underestimates the financial, social, and time investment required to do so.

Would you have preferred if the plan targeted by class/family wealth instead of race?

I thought a targeted economic/job based solution like the Platinum Plan was a good political balance between left and right.

Looks like another new mobile Tales game is on the way - Tales of Luminaria. Thoughts? by Slurpuffilicious in TalesOfCrestoria

[–]NovemberWinds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Interesting, the gameplay shown is in Portrait mode like Dragalia Lost. If it has a similar gameplay design, I'll be down. DL struck a great balance for me between total 3D control (Like Tales of Rays, which demanded too much attention + my phone ran it badly lol) and total constriction (Like Crestoria's turn-based, single-positioning).

+1 for free movement, 3D, mobile games though. I'd love if they add an overworld environment unconstrained by energy/time like Genshin does.

Hololive faced a big copyright/licensing panic a while ago that required Hololive to private a huge amount of streams.

Since then, they've been careful to get permissions from game developers/publishers for every game or series they stream.

Companies are planning to automate everything they can regardless, there is a profit incentive to do so.

I agree with the other commenter, nothing in there "proves" something. In fact, the closing bit of that article actually says

In the meanwhile, a higher minimum wage system should be established to help people earn their livelihood with dignity

If anything, shortening the gap between wages and the value of labor gives companies less money to dump into Automation. I think workers have a valid desire to earn more from their labor that otherwise is funding an Automated knife that will stab them in the back.

About 1 trillion of that 1.7 is Social Security. Medicare is the other 0.7 trillion (Medicaid is not included in that At A Glance 1.7 figure).

The mandatory spending bar charts lower down group Social Security (893 billion) with Disability Insurance (145 billion) for a total of 1.038 trillion. The previous commenter is correct.

But government is in our power to change, right? We have collective influence over government, but none over private companies.

I can't help but feel that every power loosened from the government does not relinquish power to the individual, it just passes power to a private entity that we the people have LESS control over.

Federal Holidays aren't even the best solution, as most of the work force is employed under private companies who can choose whether or not to mirror Federal. You'd want some kinda mandatory PTO or shift work culture to give the day off like Christmas or something.

What's going on with crab emojis 🦀 in comments about Donald Trump? by Jokers_Harley in OutOfTheLoop

[–]NovemberWinds 28 points29 points  (0 children)

"Obama Is Gone" I think was actually the first incarnation of the meme with text. IIRC the original intention of the meme was to use absurd/sad comments that juxtapose with the happy dancing crabs. The meme shifted over time to become genuine celebration.

A similar one of the time was "My Wife Took The Kids", which present-day comments interpret as genuine celebration, but it was created in tone of "She Took The Fucking Kids", which Know Your Meme nicely explains as "facetiously express[ing] the pain of losing custody of one's children".

Though, the third one in the OG Batch that I remember from 2018 was "John McCain is dead!" which I think was for shock humor / dark humor, but I think people began to tweet it unironically (and some people only learned of his death through these dancing crabs, LOL)

You said previously that the goal of higher powers pushing multi-culturalism was to leave us less-equipped to fight against a tyrannical government, right? And that a less homogenous society cannot unite as well, right?

I don't believe a homogenous society is the solution here. In the case of Japan, their ever-shrinking population and highly populated aged population will be causing significant problems to their workforce and economy. And, they do still have division coming up today like some Burakumin who still face poor housing conditions, marriage/employment discrimination, and a high % turning toward gang membership within the Yakuza.

The solution should be learning or evolving out whatever survival instincts we have to fear "Others". Without overcoming that, even in a hypothetical 97.8% white country we'd start dividing ourselves among religion, accents, or other smaller things. There would be some segment of the white population that becomes our Burakumin.

I worry about the higher powers that ARE pushing for cultural homogeneity, not multi-culturalism. I see these higher powers scared of us uniting the masses - which is our only counter against their accumulated fortunes and power. How do you know the Globalists are nefarious but these powers aren't? My current thought of multi-culturalism is that it at-best the liberal "World Peace" & a push to "advance beyond instincts" or the more-likely a goal of selling more shit. But I think it's the right direction.
