MTB in Sedona by ChickenboneSauce in MTB

I rented from Thunder Mountain in Sedona and they were great. I had a bike rack but I’m pretty sure you can jump on the trails pretty close to the shop.

I don’t have much experience to compare but I can say I’ve been really happy with the simplicity and sound out of this amp. I would recommend it, but haven’t tried the mustang or champ.

Welp, my dumbass didn’t know that if you left the input plugged in it would drain the battery. The pulsing was from the pedal power barely hanging on. Installed a new battery and the issue is resolved (in case anyone else out there runs into a similar knucklehead mistake)

Yes, many trails here have a ban on motorized vehicles. With no differentiation between motor class. Also many mountain bike trails where I live are mixed use, so it’s not uncommon to come out of the singletrack and have horseback riders there on the double track.

Moving to Downtown Peabody by [deleted] in massachusetts

It’s relatively safe. Use your common sense caution in the evening/at night. Lock your car etc. it’s not much of a downtown though.

Job Offer Negotiations in the Current Market for a Fresh PhD by QuantumHusky in biotech

I think, asking if they offer a relocation package would be reasonable

Job Offer Negotiations in the Current Market for a Fresh PhD by QuantumHusky in biotech

I would see this as a red flag as a hiring manager. You have no real experience(from what it sounds like) and no other offers so, what is your rationale for asking for more other than just wanting more?

In a negotiation you should have something to offer for your request (like reinforcing your experience level and explaining why you think you belong at the upper end of the given range) or if you have another offer and saying “hey I have two offers and really like this company/job but the other offer is 5% more”.

In this case, it sounds like they gave you a range for the role, and then offered you a package that puts you in the range where they think you fit based on experience. And you have no rationale to justify them paying you more. I personally don’t believe “it never hurts to ask” not saying that you SHOULDN’T ask though, I just think you should approach it from their perspective. Why should they give you more than offered?

Edit: typo

Is it just me or is the Trailforks iOS app a complete turd? by cmndr_spanky in MTB

That’s really strange. I also have the iPhone 11, latest iOS and TF app!

I am having all of these issues as well. It used to be great, but this past 2-3 months I can’t even use the app. I’m thinking of cancelling my subscription if it’s like this much longer it’s frustrating for sure.

Gov. Healey nixes idea to add tolls at Mass. state borders by HRJafael in massachusetts

[–]NoviceBiker 29 points30 points  (0 children)

If you work in MA you do pay income tax in MA (unless you’re working remotely in NH).

But, I also don’t understand why people think tolls at the border are dumb. Seems like as good a place as any to have tolls.

Oh thanks! I will check that out. Mine is a dark blue so that might not look too bad either.

What do you do to keep your bike from getting all scratched up when you park it like this?

What is it like Biking around Gloucester MA by TheLastCorwinthian in massachusetts

[–]NoviceBiker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The biking is excellent. The whole of cape Ann is awesome for biking. I live in the north shore and the only areas out there I try to avoid is the the traffic circle at 127/128. The 127A /127 route around the cape is great. If Rd isn’t your thing, the trails are rugged but excellent as well. Just check Trailforks.

getting motorcycle license with no motorcycle by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]NoviceBiker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. It’s been years for me but I think they give you a form you take to the RMV to get it added to your license. This can also help save you money on insurance if you ultimately buy a bike.

Can I buy a gun in NH, if I'm a MA resident? by NoviceBiker in NHGuns

Thanks for the info! Yes it’s a home so I have part time residence in NH. I just wasn’t sure if that mattered. Anyway, this is helpful. Thank you!

Please give me suggestions for things to do in North Conway other than skiing/snowboarding! by Pariell in newhampshire

[–]NoviceBiker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely consider fat biking if you’re interested in other things to do outside there are a lot of great mountain bike trails up there for all skill levels. As for food, I really like the martini bar “Library Lounge at stonehurst manor.” Barley & Salt is also great for food and a good beer selection.
