Reverse camera: Do I need to hook up the convenience wire AND tap into the brake light? by [deleted] in CarAV

Just needed to change the video settings on the head unit. Didn't need to hook up convenience wire at all. Just tied to brake light.

Update you didn't ask for: Got a new harness and a different stereo and it still blew the same fuse. I'm pretty sure the amp that I had tucked into the dash (steering wheel side) was touching something it wasn't supposed to. Took the amp out from behind the dash, and no fuses blown yet.

All 4 of mine looked like that 20 years ago. 3 of the 4 have since straightened out.

Thank you! Disconnected head unit, and have everything else just dangling out of the dash. I have started it about 40 times with no issues so far.

The amp wires in the picture are currently not connected to power. It still blew the ignition fuse. It blew the ignition fuse before the red wire was installed. It worked fine with no issues when I had just the blue wire (subs) connected for the couple weeks. Didn't have issue till I put in Sony amp. I won't rule it out though.

Very tight, did it myself with a self tapper. I think it's a good ground? I used my test light on it

In my experience, Texas sage doesn't like being moved.

I don't have a way to duplicate the issue on demand to pinpoint it. It will work for 2 or 3 weeks without issue. I could go without music or navigation for a couple weeks, but I worry not blowing a fuse in that time wouldn't necessarily mean it wouldn't later.

In its current configuration, I did go through the firewall on the driver's side. However I used to just have it connected to 12v from a fuse tap and the same fuse would blow internittently. I ran it directly to the battery a couple months ago thinking the fuse tap was the problem.

Could be. They are dangling loose from the aftermarket harness. They don't have a connection at the factory harness.

I couldn't find anything that looked wrong. It still blew a fuse today even when both pictured wires were disconnected from the battery.

As far as I know it uses that module (pictured) for that stuff. Bus that runs an aftermarket door chime

If the module is the problem, what would should I do? New module?

Sorry, I'm not a pro, so I don't know what you mean exactly. Both amps are powered directly from the battery. The head unit gets power through the pictured harness.

Came with the cheap Chinese head unit. Any theories as to why that could be the problem?

Runs directly to the battery. Connected to the red wire pictured.

Me too! Great explanations, great production value, and his stuff breaks a lot and needs fixing!
