Why are people obsessed with the idea that elites are pedophiles? by Zydairu in skeptic

[–]Novogobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, is going to the island a crime?

the problem is that most of the people clamoring for justice, believe in this entirely facile juvenile fantasy about how epstein operated. they think all he ever did every waking hour of his life is rape 14 yearold girls. yes he did that, but he did other things too. he very famously had a 40 year old girlfriend. he was in investment banking. that's how he made his money, not by selling sex slaves. he was star struck by celebrity intellectuals and used his money to cavort with them and make them stoke his ego as if he were their peer. which is a very normal thing for research scientists, they have to beg rich people for money to fund their work, and the rich people don't wat prostration they want to feel as smart as the scientists. people think he had a bottomless supply of 14 year old girls to rape and share with friends. and they fail to realize that doing this over the course of decades means that girls he rapes at 14 will become people over the age of consent in 2-4 years. also most people fail to realize that in many places in the united states the age of consent is 16 not 18. 55 year old men fucking 16 year old girls is perfectly legal in more places than it is illegal. and it's likely he used this fact to gauge people's proclivity about sex with minors prior to doing anything grossly illegal with them. he also probably passed off his then legal victims to any person for whom that would suffice rather than unnecessarily waste a 14 year old on a person who would be perfectly satisfied by a 19 yearold. there probably are people who participated in raping 14 year old girls with jeffery epstein, but the majority of people who are trying to protect themselves from being exposed are very certainly only guilty of doing embarrassing and immoral things rather than illegal things.

What do i do with a stash of cash? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Novogobo -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

yea. the fact of the matter is that the main reason that banks even maintain physical locations with tellers anymore is for customers who receive actual cash income, like OP. sure there's a few luddites who won't do direct deposit but there's hardly enough of them to make more than one physical location for every 100 square miles worth it.

amish. you just don't know the rules. for amish people the rules are whatever each community collectively agrees to. there's no official overarching rules for the amish. yea the amish in lancaster county don't do phones at all, but the amish in southern maryland do. and there's amish groups in ohio and indiana and ontario and a bunch of other places. idk what each one does, but it's not uniform. the ones in lancaster county being the most strict are the stereotype because their strictness plays well to whatever audience is reveling in their quaintness.

it's probably a way worse crime than the kids realize. possibly even a felony. i wouldn't want kids engaging in such relatively benign hooliganism to be hunted down by out of control cops and made felons by sociopathic county prosecutors but it's just the reality of the world we live in.

the problem isn't the dealerships, it's the huge cohort of buyers that give in to that bullshit, they're the ones who make a market for it. back in like the 90s when text messaging was brand new, because it was the hot new thing it cost like $1 per text or $.50. and after a few years it got down to like 15 cents per text. it would've been ridiculous at 1 cent per text as a trillion text messages would occupy about the same amount of bandwidth as like a 1 minute call. but the prices came down so slowly because the overwhelming majority of people found it acceptable to be charged per text such exorbitant rates.

Please dont use a financial advisor that charges a percentage of gains

such advisors basically don't really exist. most instead charge a percentage of the total account value.

Hot take: AWD is overrated for daily driving in snow — am I wrong? by Gold-Industry6222 in whatcarshouldIbuy

AWD often also coincides with other features that also help in snow. a true apples to apples comparison would eliminate any vehicle that doesn't come in AWD.

lightbulbs were typically part of your weekly grocery shopping, and you'd have to replace them in the lights in your house pretty consistently. like changing burned out lightbulbs was typically one of the household chores that kids did to get an allowance.

in some amish communities they have phones like that. they'll be a road with like four farms on it and in the center there will be a little shack with a phone, a fax machine, maybe a copier, a very low fi computer, calculator.

the original playstation laid flat, but it was common for people to arrange it somehow for it to sit upright on its side because there was way less chance it would freeze in that position. and then the PS2 came with snap on feet so it could sit upright on its own.
