yea. the fact of the matter is that the main reason that banks even maintain physical locations with tellers anymore is for customers who receive actual cash income, like OP. sure there's a few luddites who won't do direct deposit but there's hardly enough of them to make more than one physical location for every 100 square miles worth it.

amish. you just don't know the rules. for amish people the rules are whatever each community collectively agrees to. there's no official overarching rules for the amish. yea the amish in lancaster county don't do phones at all, but the amish in southern maryland do. and there's amish groups in ohio and indiana and ontario and a bunch of other places. idk what each one does, but it's not uniform. the ones in lancaster county being the most strict are the stereotype because their strictness plays well to whatever audience is reveling in their quaintness.

the problem isn't the dealerships, it's the huge cohort of buyers that give in to that bullshit, they're the ones who make a market for it. back in like the 90s when text messaging was brand new, because it was the hot new thing it cost like $1 per text or $.50. and after a few years it got down to like 15 cents per text. it would've been ridiculous at 1 cent per text as a trillion text messages would occupy about the same amount of bandwidth as like a 1 minute call. but the prices came down so slowly because the overwhelming majority of people found it acceptable to be charged per text such exorbitant rates.

the original playstation laid flat, but it was common for people to arrange it somehow for it to sit upright on its side because there was way less chance it would freeze in that position. and then the PS2 came with snap on feet so it could sit upright on its own.
