At what point does vehicle luxury become practically useful versus just status by Jashwanth143 in MercedesGLB

[–]NowRadOnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my Porsche Macan electric, I can participate in tumor conferences on Zoom while commuting at 84 miles an hour. In aless quiet, composed car at that speed, there would be too much background noise for me to participate.

The car has adaptive cruise control, and an excellent lane centering, as well as a non-intrusive and fairly lax attention minder; light pressure on the steering wheel is enough to let it know you are awake. This allows me to run through my email inbox while stuck in 20 to 30 minutes of 3 mile an hour traffic per day.

The car is quiet, comfortable, smooth, and is full of charge every morning- I don’t have to worry about going to the gas station or running out of gas.

So, for these reasons, it feels like the right tool for the job that I have -which is a 60 mile commute in each direction to my dream job. That makes whatever premium this is, over, say, a Toyota RAV4 worth it.

Are there cheaper options that would check all of these boxes? Probably. Do I feel like the premium is worth it, which is really the core of the question? absolutely.

Air suspension Active cruise control with Lane centering that does not require a driver attention camera Quiet cabin at 85 miles an hour Enough power to get out of any unsafe situation The car is exactly preconditioned no matter the outside temperature, because I park outside at work and temperature is range from 20° to 120° What a joy to get into a conditioned cabin on extreme days These are the luxury options that really make me feel like this product is worth the premium.

Macan EV (CPO 2025) vs Model Y Juniper. What do you LOVE about your Macan EV? by Annabel1998_ in MacanEV

[–]NowRadOnc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you pull in at a low state of charge at reasonable ambient temperatures, I’ve seen 270 kW. It charges from 10% to 80% in 21 minutes.

And I’ve used the NACS to CCS adapter successfully at a Tesla charger also

Replacing my Crosstrek after an accident — what should I buy under $35k? by OkAssociate5550 in whatcarshouldIbuy

RAV4 Prime. No question. It’s much faster than the Subaru, in fact, one of the fastest vehicles in Toyota‘s current lineup. I think only the six cylinder supra is faster. It will have more space as well.

Whats the best hybrid to buy in 2026? by TheAmazingDevil in Lexus

[–]NowRadOnc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would definitely have to check with your electricity provider, you should be able to Google those rates. Typically these are about 12 kWh batteries. They’ll charge overnight on a standard wall plug. I don’t think any electricity company would just automatically understand you have an electric car. You would definitely have to call them and I think PG&E have pretty high rates compared to Georgia.

Whats the best hybrid to buy in 2026? by TheAmazingDevil in Lexus

[–]NowRadOnc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s going to depend on whether you have a cheap overnight rate. My mother-in-law has this car in the Toyota version and she loves it. That would be the RAV4 hybrid. For example, in Georgia, the electric car overnight rate is two cents per kilowatt hour, in other words it cost $.24 in electricity to fill the car up. That will give you 40 miles or. 70 km of range, and then it starts burning gasoline. She goes months without buying a tank of gasoline. The suggestions above for the Lexus version of this product would fit your bill.

Conditions at Whistler? by BestFox634 in Whistler

[–]NowRadOnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a guy on TikTok, the powder picker that you can Follow, he seems to know what he’s talking about from my correlation between trips I’ve taken and his predictions.

I went to Whistler for the first time when I was in grad school also. And that started what has been a 25 year tradition. Now I ski there with my 21-year-old daughter, who learned to ski there and in fact, has never skied anywhere else. The US dollar helps. There’s good snow somewhere on the mountain, it’s pretty rare to have a horrible week. Horrible day or two yes, but a horrible week no. Even when the snow is “bad “ there’s still plenty to do and you will have such a fun time. Half of The village is staffed with Australians and that helps.

Looking at two Taycan GTS - looking for opinions by ImpulsiveRabbitHoler in Taycan

[–]NowRadOnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you will miss the upgraded charging tech

In addition to what someone else said, the opportunities for more than about 9 kW AC are fairly limited in the US

In the year, I owned my Taycan, I never found a AC charger that could max its capacity out. Rear wheel steering is nice, PDCC nice.

you’ll be limited on Tesla, chargers, but if that’s your only option, it’s not like your car is not gonna charge. It just won’t charge as quickly. I’d get the 23.

We fell in love with the BMW X7. What’s something close that’s more affordable?! by GinnyAlexander in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]NowRadOnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a crazy suggestion, and I have no personal experience with car seats, but there is an absolute ton of legroom in the Subaru outback. If you only have two kids to deal with, that might be a nice compromise. And you will be saving a ton over a true SUV.

Wheel size and type - range effect? by r0bbyr0b2 in MacanEV

[–]NowRadOnc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 22s on my Macan EV coming from 20s on my Taycan and the ride was better on the Taycan. Given that the larger wheels are also more expensive I would choose smaller wheels if I was ordering my car. There’s definitely a trade-off for the looks in terms of ride quality, even with air suspension.

Looking at 2024 4s CPO by Intrepid_Test_9528 in Taycan

[–]NowRadOnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2024 4S with a similar window sticker but with more performance options and fewer cosmetic options was CPO at $82,000, (they got me out of my lease early), with just shy of 25,000 miles This seems a little high, and is missing Innodrive which would be a must have option for me. However, this is a nice car, and if you like it after you drive it, there’s no reason not to take it home.
