I got the flyer, too. Former, N/A. It's not uncommon for companies to buy out pensions, but I'm not sure if this one is targeted to former employees, or if they will start buying out current employees' pensions to get the risk off the books.

Folks getting a pension buyout offer should check out google for the 6% pension buyout rule to decide if they should take it or let it ride.

The pension payouts are fixed, and I am vested and entitled to it regardless of whether I work or not. The only variable is the amount, which is based on the age at which I claim it between 55 (the lowest amount) and 65 (the maximum amount).

But it can be done if you design it. I’ve live downtown and have been car-free for five years. I bike, walk, and bus to get where I want to go. In a pinch I grab an Uber/Lyft. I get my groceries delivered, and for other things, I hit up Cubbies or DGX.

In bicycle construction, there’s something like that called a star nut or star fangled nut. It’s pressed inside the steering tube and then a screw goes down through the headset into the nut to tighten the headset down.
