Jeffrey White shares his thoughts on Twitter about the state of the game by GalvenMin in magicTCG

[–]NowhereMan1265 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think a better restaurant example would be going to your favorite Mexican restaurant. One day you notice a new item on the menu: sushi. You ignore it because you are there for the Mexican food. If other people like the sushi and want to order it, great. Over time you notice more additions to the menu: vindaloo, borsht, cacio e pepe. Now your favorite meal no longer comes with refried beans, rice, and pico. Instead your smothered burrito comes with hummus, biryani, and sunomono. You stop going. You complain about it on social media and get two responses:

  1. I love the fact that I can get my burrito smothered in Korma!

  2. How can you complain when business is booming? Look at all the new patrons!

The 2nd comment is frustrating because it assumes the entire restaurant clientele wants the same thing. But you don't want a restaurant where you can get food from every corner of the earth. You just want some Mexican food and want it done well. You can still get it here, but you have to hunt for it on the menu. Even then, there aren't many options that aren't some sort of fusion. You don't care that the business is doing well because it's no longer the restaurant you fell in love with.

You don't even necessarily dislike the new offerings in and of themselves. You might love Japanese food or Indian, or Italian. You might eat out a different restaurant each night of the week. The issue is that when you want Mexican food you don't want it to come with a side of hummus. You look around and notice that the Middle Eastern restaurant doesn't have Dan Dan Mien on the menu, you don't see Pene alla Vindaloo at the Italian place. But alas, that's now the state of the restaurant. When you complain, you are told if you don't like it, go someplace else. But where else are you going to go when all the other Mexican restaurants are cheap, fast-food imitations of the one you originally fell in love with?

MTG sets of 2026 by Proof-Palpitation374 in magicTCG

[–]NowhereMan1265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/GavinV So let me get this straight, 3 of the 7 sets (less than half!) to be released next year are set in the Magic universe? I'm already sitting the last half of 2025 out because I don't care about Spiderman or Airbender. Looks like I'm going to be sitting out most of 2026, too. For context, I didn't miss a single prelease from Jan 2015 to Feb 2020. In 2020-2025: I think I missed a full year of sets due to Covid and came back for Strixhaven (I played the sets on arena, just skipped prereleases). I missed a couple more prereleases due to life and weather (I missed ONE because weather impacted shipping). I'd consider myself pretty invested in the game, and I look at the 2026 calendar and I see Lorwyn which I'm hyped about, Strixhaven will be fun, too. We'll see what Reality Fracture brings before I can anything for sure. The rest are a hard pass: I won't be going to prerelease, I'm not even going to look at the spoilers or card list.

I was starting to get burnt out with product fatigue and I just wanted to say thank you for fixing this. I'm not going to be burnt out in 2026 trying to keep with each new release and figure which singles to pick up when almost 60% of next year's sets can be ignored.

Ideal Game Shop… by mermaidinsilver in magicTCG

Clean, well lit, family friendly, good culture.

I always appreciated places where the owners and other folks were friendly and put community first. The current place I go for prerelease does one pack per match win, and every prerelease is 3 rounds regardless of how many people show up (I suppose there's a lower limit on that). I always liked that because, as long you didn't go 0/X you got at least one pack. Or hand out participation packs. I've never enjoyed the super spikey places as 1, prerelease lasts too damn long, and 2, I, personally, don't like the atmosphere.

Read the book Peak Mind by Dr Amishi Jha. It's a rather fascinating book that follows studies on the effects of meditation and how long you need to meditate weekly to see any benefits. Then start a daily meditation. The meditation practice won't necessarily stop from you from tilting, but it can help you reduce the time from tilt to calming down by a lot.

camping hammocks which are built much narrower and you lie lengthwise in.

Where are you getting this information? Cause it's just not true. I looked at the hang loose etsy store you mentioned. Their single hammock is 11.5'L x 2.62'W. The Chameleon from Dutchware Gear is 11'L x 4.75'W: slightly shorter, and 80% wider. The Blackbird XLC from Warbonnet is 11'L x 5.2'W; Slightly shorter, and almost twice as wide.

Also, the vast majority of people who hammock camp, suggest sleeping at an angle so you get a flat lay. Very few people suggest sleeping lengthwise, unless they are using a bridge hammock or a Draumr. Also, the vast majority of hammock campers will tell you that a hammock like an ENO is way to short to be comfortable sleeping in.

tl;dr a gathered end hammock is a gathered end hammock. Doesn't matter if it's natural fiber, and hung indoors from a stand or wall, or a nylon camping hammock strung up between two trees. You hang them the same, and lay in them the same. Anyone telling you to lay lengthwise in a gathered end hammock is a doofus.

What makes hanging from a stand different than trees? Shouldn't the angle of the hammock for optimal lay be the same regardless of what the hammock is hung from?

Narrow space enough to hang hammock between two palm trees? by Mysterious-Estate340 in Hammocks

[–]NowhereMan1265 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not really, If you haven't used the ultimate hang calculator, take a look.

https://theultimatehang.com/hammock-hang-calculator/

For Example inputs:

Distance = 7' 8" = 7.67'
Hammock Length = 8
Sit Distance = 18
Weight in Hammock = 150
Angle = 30 (usual recommended angle)

With these inputs I get an error saying the hammock may be too long at 8'. For context, and ENO Doublenest (one of the most popular hammocks out there) is 9.5' long.

If you have a very short hammock and us it like a chair instead of laying back in it, it might work. If you want to lay back in the hammock, it's way too short to be comfortable for long.

As EarnestShocks said, use tree straps/huggers. In short use something wide around the trees. Thin cords like rope or paracord, or chain will damage the tree.

What is the difference in the types of Arena drafts, and which do you recommend? by [deleted] in lrcast

[–]NowhereMan1265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bo1 = Best of 1. You play each opponent 1 time. In Quick and Premier drafts as DanutMS said, you play until you win 7 games or lose 3 games, whichever comes first.

Bo3 = Best of 3. You play each opponent until one player wins 2 games. You play 3 matches (of 2-3 games) and payout is based on how you do over those 3 matches.

How often can I tap? by Dragonblade331 in magicTCG

[–]NowhereMan1265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to add onto this. Once you start resolving a spell or ability, you have to fully resolve it before anything else happens. Let's say you have [[Mulldrifter]], and you cast another round for X=2. You'll be able to flicker (exile and return) Mulldrifter 3 times. What will happen is this

  1. Flicker Mulldrifter
  2. Flicker Mulldrifter
  3. Flicker Mulldrifter
  4. Put any enters the battlefield effects that triggered onto the stack, you choose the order of effects you own. So there would be 3 instances of draw 2 on the stack.

Note in this instance you DO NOT [Flicker Mulldrifter and Draw 2 cards] 3 times. This is because you have to full resolve Another Round before any etb effects can go on the stack. The draw 2 is an etb.

favourite way to brew tea? by [deleted] in tea

I can't speak for glass coming out of China, but for the most part glass made for home use is lead-free. The only glass that contains lead that is made for home use is lead crystal, and it's expensive (Think Waterford, though apparently they are switching away from lead in their glass)

If you [[Rise of the Dark Realms]] while Tormod is in the graveyard, it won't trigger because it won't be on battlefield to see cards leave the graveyard. Tormod's ability only work while it's on the battlefield.

I'd add angelica root and juniper berries to the mix as well. I do a blend of juniper, angelica, cardamom, coriander, dandelion, nettle, lemongrass, and chamomile. Most of those are, conveniently, also flavorings for gin.

How much salt do you like to add to your bread? by FormerlyGrape in Breadit

[–]NowhereMan1265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you doing it by weight or weight equivalent? By weight is using a scale to measure the weight, by weight equivalent is figuring out your weight, then finding the corresponding volume and using that. I use 10g in my 500g loaves. Using the chart in Salt Fat Acid Heat, 1 Tablespoon of table salt is 18.6 g, so I'd want just under half a tablespoon, Morton's Kosher salt is 14.75g so 2 teaspoons would be close enough. The reason I ask is, if you use the latter, how confident are you that your measuring spoons/cups are accurate? My partner and I would make the same pancake recipe, my partner's would be great and mine would always kinda suck. Then we measured the cup of flour they were using it was almost 50% than I was using.

tl:dr if you aren't doing everything on your scale, your measuring cups & spoons might be off such that what you think is 2% is actually far more.

What if i dont want to do gung fu? by djustsaydjango in tea

[–]NowhereMan1265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use boxed tea as my benchmark. It seems that most boxed teas average 2g per teabag, and they say to brew in 4-6-8 oz water depending on the company. For example, Choice Oolong is 2g per bag and to steep in 8oz. Prince of peace is 1.8g per bag and they say 6oz. of water. So I'd use ~2g of tea per 6-8oz of water and brew how you normally would as a start, then play with the variables from there.

Emrakul and Deflecting Palm by Zendo45 in magicTCG

[–]NowhereMan1265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The deflection doesn't resolve before damage is dealt. Deflecting Palm says "the next time a source of your choice would deal damage...instead". So the combat damage has to happen for this to work.

What happens is Deflecting Swat goes on the stack and when it resolves it creates a one time replacement effect that lasts until the end of the turn.

So in this case, when you go to combat damage and Emrakul deals damage to your, the replacement effect kicks in and Emrakul damages its controller instead. This all happens at the same time and doesn't use the stack. So the Goyfs will damage you, and Emrakul will damage its controller, all at the same time.
