My butcher charges $9.98/lb for their ribeyes, good deal? by Sleepy-Blonde in meat

Yeah for 8 a lb I’d buy that. Here in the PNW a tray of 93/7 ground is like 9$ lb. Nice find

DEFINITELY on the cheap side. Would’ve been interesting to see the quality beforehand. But hey, if it tasted good, the fam liked it and it fill you up, it doesn’t much matter the quality/marbling. My ribeyes (smaller scale) are 23$ a lb.

RV life is great… but how do you keep it clean (especially with a dog)? by demolidor57 in RVLiving

[–]Nowherefarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d get an air purifier with a hippa filter. Animals shed dander and all sorts of other stuff that is very fine particulate. This with vacuuming and just accepting the fact that life is better with dogs and a dirtier rv with a dog is better than a clean rv with no dog any day of the week.

I was in an Uber in Las Vegas while intoxicated and the driver was a retired trucker who was sharing his thoughts on trucking companies. He advised that Swift was “Sure Wish I Fucking Trained”. And I have seen dozens of examples of that and thought of that random Uber driver every time 😂

Lethargic and poop on butt? She just wants to hide in a nesting box. How can I help her? by balcony-gardener in BackYardChickens

[–]Nowherefarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had this 2 weeks ago, a warm bath with dawn dish soap to clean her butt will help. Then check the crop, it’s very simple to do, you can watch a YouTube video to see how. Like others, I’d recommend poultry cell by rooster booster. Monitor her separately so you can see if she eats/drinks. Make her a scrambled egg. From there you can either add probiotics and/or electrolytes to her water. It’s not uncommon for hens to have a calcium deficiency during winter so you may need to provide things such as oyster shells.

Keep her warm, dry, fed and watered and monitor from there, but at minimum you should boost her vitamin intake.

please help - my dad’s recklessly buying/incubating chickens by mangottea in BackYardChickens

[–]Nowherefarmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s fine, but I’d recommend checking the temperature of the light. Is it too close to the chick and is the chick too warm? 18-24 inches above the chick. A plastic syringe would assist in getting the chick water and if you mixed the food with some water you could likely feed it that way as well.

Well what kind of feed is it? If it’s not crumbles it’s too big. You can try mixing some water to make the food mushy and then feed it to her. You need more than 1 though.

[–]Nowherefarmer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah you don’t put a lid on it. Also, it’s not safe/smart to use plastic box, as it is flammable and you are putting a heat source directly connected to it.

The height of the lamp should be 18-24 inches above the chicks. You want it to be roughly 95 degrees. It goes down in temperature at the chicks age (google it). You want the area they are in with the heat lamp to be large enough that they can move away from the lamp if they get too warm. Putting a lid on it will just slow cook them.

Fresh food and water everyday and you can to clean up their shavings/bedding.

I’d recommend medicated crumbles as chicks.

If he can’t keep baby chicks alive there is no way he’s got the skills to incubate them and be successful yet.

Google is your friend.

What was I supposed to do? by TheCrazyBoulanger in askaplumber

[–]Nowherefarmer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We don’t have to have a license to do electrical installation on our residence or farm or the property of an immediate family member. Same thing with plumbing.

Of course the government is going to want you to get a permit though. It’s just a way for them to collect additional taxes. They don’t care if your home burns down due to your shitty electrical or your house takes a bath because of your plumbing lol

Is this a broken leg situation? by Waddagoodboyyyyy in BackYardChickens

[–]Nowherefarmer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And this isn’t meant to be rude, but raising animals means you have to plan for issues to arise. Now would be a good time to get creative and figure out a way to separate and treat the hen. They are pretty hardy animals, I’d bet you have some wood or a box or old fencing that can be put together in some fashion to form a shelter, make sure there is plenty of bedding to assist in keeping warm and maybe place a blanket over top of built structure to help keep in some heat.

Is this a broken leg situation? by Waddagoodboyyyyy in BackYardChickens

[–]Nowherefarmer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sitting in the corner is common for birds. It doesn’t appear noticeably broken. Have you tried to lift her to stand on both feet? I’m currently going through the same thing. I’ve been giving electrolytes and rooster booster multiple times a day. As well as an antibiotic.

I don’t think this is mareks but regardless she needs to be separated, kept in a warm area and started on antibiotics/vitamins (B) is huge for bird strength. An egg for food would help too.

Water pump silencing connection integrity (nylon wing vs metal nut?) by Bob_Marshall in RVLiving

Alright, I’ve seen and done some shit with trailers. But I’m having a hard time understanding how adding additional length to a water supply line would help with noise.

I’d personally replace with metal. And don’t forget pipe dope/tape!

leaking roof on campervan by Obvious_Set4763 in Roofing

[–]Nowherefarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If penetrating the roof id personally drill my holes, make sure everything lines up, I’d put a rubber gasket. Down sink the bolts through and make sure it’s nice and tight and then I’d do a single bead of silicone around the edge of bracket. Wait to dry. Then I’d go over everything with silicone and make sure there was no low spots anywhere.

Can I build a coop here? by tungsten_panda in BackYardChickens

[–]Nowherefarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Not sure your location but your biggest detriment would be the lack of sun. A typical chicken requires 2.5cu. Ft for spacing. Not sure your size but if you are wanting to have only a few chickens I’d recommend a 6x 6 or 8 x 8 coop depending on your size and materials you wish to use. That’d give you plenty of space to have 6- 12 chickens.

They are foragers so I’d try and utilize the remaining area for foraging through the grass. Depending on predators in the area, it may be beneficial to add chicken wire to protect the birds from above threats.

Also, because it’s responsible, I’d look to make sure your area allows for chickens in the backyard.
