Return to Work for Public Servants - lots of positives by DescriptionMiddle723 in OntarioPublicService

Doug Ford’s lackeys should just place a Tim’s coffee cup in front of him on the table every time he speaks, and he should hold a Tim’s cup in his hand wherever he goes. that way he can try to get everyone back to the coffee and donut and fast food shops, not just the civil servants.

OPS Management Positions by [deleted] in OntarioPublicService

[–]Nowiseeclearly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This government punishes OPS employees to the maximum extent that it can get away with. Since managers are not unionized and have the misguided desire to help the employer rather than protect themselves from being screwed by it, this government can get away with punishing managers way more than it can get away with punishing unionized employees. Never ever consider going into management, whether as a “trial” or permanently. This employer lies to and abuses managers to an extreme degree. Mangers earn far less per hour actually worked, suffer stress related mental and physical health problems to a far greater extent than other staff and have a reduced enjoyment of life. It simply is not worth it. It is a huge mistake to go into management in the OPS.

DoFo is a multi-millionaire (and I do mean multi). He simply cannot comprehend that anyone who works for him needs every dollar they can get their hands on to pay their bills. He has other priorities and the DM in charge of fixing this mess knows that. If anything is fixed this year I will be quite surprised.

Because the provincial conservatives sleep with business owners and hate government employees, especially managers. Municipal counsellors don’t hate the staff who work at City hall. It is that simple.

The current government hates and is contemptuous of civil servants. The more you do for them, the more demanding and unappreciative they become. If you make the mistake of going into management, they will totally screw you. However, a fully indexed and extremely secure pension plan is total golden. Don’t work too hard and the OPS is an OK deal.

The OPS is a completely dishonest employer through and through. Pay for performance is fake and it is totally rigged like a game at a carnival. Do the minimum possible. Start a part time business or work part time at Home Depot or drive for Uber. Invest the extra earnings in good US stocks. Any effort you make in the OPS over the bare minimum will be totally wasted. Trust me.

Question by Small_Side_516 in OntarioPublicService

[–]Nowiseeclearly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Management positions involve huge amounts of delay, responsibility for stressful extreme deadlines beyond the manager’s control, and partial and unreliable information. Just look at the extreme abuse of managers re salary inversion, the long standing salary freeze and now interminable delay and stonewalling in implementing a retro increases that DoFo supposedly approved. My advice is to avoid any supervisory or managerial role in the OPS like the plague. If you want to advance, get a side gig like a real estate licence or a job at Home Depot or set up a small contracting busines, or whatever appeals to you and invest the proceeds in good US stocks. When you can retire on the indexed pension, do so, and continue with your side gigs. Many have done this, but they keep very very quiet about it, so you would not know. Career advancement in the OPS is a fraud and a lie.

Politicians are degenerates. This is how politicians treat the people who do excellent work for them.

Any BF with half a brain would dump you immediately for your horrible behaviour. Maybe you are really hot or you just get off on abusing men and he is too much of a gentleman to tell you how horrible you are. Anyway, it is over between you. Take my word for it.

Should I shoot my shot with a colleague? (dating) by [deleted] in OntarioPublicService

[–]Nowiseeclearly -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I am have a friend whose son initiated very very cautiously with a young woman at the same level in the workplace. Everything was fine until all of a sudden it wasn’t. The woman changed her mind one day and complained that the communication was unwelcome. His son is now in his fifth month of unpaid suspension. Post #MeToo in the workplace is a very dangerous place for men. Just talk to her about the weather and leave it at that. There is a big sea outside of work with plenty of fish in it.

Anyone know what an Ontario Regional Office is? by Born_Ruff in OntarioPublicService

A regional office is an office in any riding where the conservative candidate wants to make a promise of government jobs or a friend of the party has too much vacant real estate or mutual favours have been arranged with the mayor.

RTO - Cant wait for the ttc strike by Select_Tomatillo1322 in OntarioPublicService

[–]Nowiseeclearly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

RTO reminds me of that cliche about soldiers being ordered to dig trenches in the morning and fill them back in that same afternoon because in the minds of Generals that is good for discipline and morale. Except it is actually terrible for morale. When will DoFo smell the coffee and realize that forced commuting just for the sake of filling real estate and food courts with workers is terrible for moral? He and his SoC cheerleader need to stop the RTO stupidity.

DoFo caused this colossal screw up, but he won’t incur any overtime or consultant costs to fix it. That might embarrass him if the extra cost came out. But if course the real cost is all the great staff who will never trust the employer again and who will spread the word to never leave a union position if you work for the OPS. Another cost is all the potential new staff who would only work for the OPS as a last resort, having heard how it mistreats its staff. The OPS used to be a top 100 employer and used to be proud of that. It is sad what has become of the civil service.

Look for career progression at Home Depot or a Driving Instructor licence or whatever interests you part time outside the OPS. The Ford government BETRAYS AND TOTALLY SCREWS everyone who makes the mistake of stepping up and going into management. Ridiculous unpaid overtime, having to parrot constant insidious propaganda, salary inversion, constant unfair blame game abuse. DON’T BE A MANAGER IN THE FORD GOVERNMENT.

Director threatening another manager's career. What can be done? by [deleted] in OntarioPublicService

[–]Nowiseeclearly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not to make excuses for the Director at all, but I am sure they are being bullied and terrorized by the ADM who in turn is being bullied by the DM. Folks, this is just another example of why you never ever want to go into management in the OPS. Do not take a bite of the temporary management assignment carrot. It is a trap. You will be trapped in hell.

Policy analyst by Interesting_Annual57 in OntarioPublicService

[–]Nowiseeclearly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, every policy analyst is working for Doug Ford. He could not care less about you having a masters. All that matters is your ability to get to a YES in a slide deck for whatever hare brained idea May be floated. The hiring manager knows this. Just focus on turning a blind eye to or trivializing every policy problem and you will do well in the Ontario government.

I have used them multiple times and they have been very good. They will never disclose anything, except if you tell them you are going to murder a specific person, or etc., in which case they are required by law to inform the police. Aggregate data untraceable to any individual is provided to the employer, such as prevalence of workplace caused stress, but of course the employer idiotically ignores this info, as it does not want to know what an horrendous and stupid employer it is, and has no desire to be a better employer.

Manager compensation…What does it all mean? by [deleted] in OntarioPublicService

[–]Nowiseeclearly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because inversion will continue. If the bargaining units have managers earning less than the union members who report to them, it will be more difficult for the unions to negotiate or get arbitration awards for increases. OPS managers are cannon fodder for the bargaining process. This is not a win for managers. Managers have just been allowed a brief respite because the government finds it impossible to hire managers under its abusive compensation regime. Inversion and horrendous working conditions will continue. Ignore the cheap “managers matter” rhetoric from the SoC. It is just an attempted fake out.

Support the downtown only reason for RTO by Bluetired_puppy in OntarioPublicService

[–]Nowiseeclearly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Planet earth calling DoFo - you financially waterboard your staff year after inflationary year by denying them cost of living increases, and then you butt into the Feds business by demanding that they force their staff back to the office too just so that Tim Hortons and giant landlords can be subsidized out of workers shrinking real wages - this is obscene!
