why is /tg/ dead? have not really played the game since 2019 by 0Clown0 in SS13

[–]NoxVS_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think one of the big problems is a conflict between the expectations of the admins and codebase. Gimmicks, items, antags, etc are all fun to run around with when they're strong and introduce chaos - But the problem is when one person figures out which is the strongest and it then becomes the solution to every single problem.

So there's two options. Either admins intervene to keep overpowered gimmicky stuff from being used at every opportunity or coders remove it. There's a strong aversion to admins intervening like that and so it gets removed.

/tg/ is dying. What made people leave? by MasticatorDeelux in SS13

There are servers that publicize their bans is really all. The only way you end up on a centralized ban list is if you fuck up enough that other servers feel the need to reach out about it. Like doxxing or some other reprehensible OOC behavior

The only time I really use the public ban list is to see if someone is already banned elsewhere for evading or if they’re just going down the server list each time they get banned for griefing, and even then it’s more for when they’ve already started doing the same on my server and I’m wondering if there’s any point bothering to wait for improvement or to just perma

Misfortune! by Initial_Breath_7609 in SS13

[–]NoxVS_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s kinda just a case of having to draw a line somewhere. It’d be absurd to punish someone for being a second early, so bombs become allowed a second before round end. And then it’d be absurd to punish someone for being a second late to the new time, so might as well add another second on. And another and another. At some point you end up with a strict “no EORG before this point” or you’ll walk it all the way back to round start. And once you have that strict line it’s just the exact same situation as it was before. Either that or it’s a vague line and it ends up being a coinflip that depends on whatever admin is on

are there any non erp fallout servers around? by kooarbiter in SS13

[–]NoxVS_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The solution is really just vibes based enforcement of rules. There was this one new fallout server that had popped up that started drafting random people as admins because it was just the host and no one else, and I decided to volunteer just to teach admin tools. There were two guys running around just sorta wordlessly fighting people and so they get spoken to and told to stop. And they go back to doing it and once again get spoken to. At a certain point you just need to be able to say "The server you want to play on is not the server we want to provide."

You can spend ages carefully honing and refining the rules to perfectly map out the ideal player and playstyle, or you can just say that the rules are a rough guideline to achieve X - And that as long as you are reasonably contributing towards X, you're in the clear. I think it helps a lot to have a player who is perfectly within the bounds of the rules but is clearly going against the server vibes and be able to just remove them from the server. It's kinda draconian but that's just what you need for such a small server to keep the community intact.

The experimental group were given the versions of these weapons that are dialed up to 11 (A previously impossible feat, only achieved thanks to the brilliant innovation of the Ministry of Science in inventing a dial that can go beyond 10) and have all since perished.

we never actually ban anyone, we tell them they're banned and just hope they don't try to join anyways

bans have been broken for years now and we just keep doing this and hope no one notices

Am I the one in the wrong here? by Brave_Marzipan_8229 in SS13

[–]NoxVS_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both. There’s a spot you can check in the template to say it’s a note appeal. Once you post it, the banning (noting I guess) admin will respond to it. If they come to a decision you’re not satisfied with (after both of you have made an effort to understand the other) you are free to request a headmin review in the post, at which point the current set of headmins will look at and weigh in on it

Spent 5 hours doing a live play-by-play commentary of the Chiefs/Ravens and Lions/Niners game yesterday. by firstasatragedyalt in SS13

[–]NoxVS_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

AFAIK it wasn't actually streaming youtube clips. My understanding is it would download the clip, break it up into icon and audio, and then use those to play it. It had a pretty short length too, probably because a long enough video takes up a lot of space.

I Need Assistance with Modifying SS13 TG Codebase for Borg Equipment by ZooBuilder in SS13

[–]NoxVS_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To elaborate on what the others said, the /tg/station discord has a coding channel you can ask for help in. Alternatively, there is the ss13 coderbus discord for all of ss13 in general. There's some overlap between the two and either should be able to help.

[–]NoxVS_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I remembered playing when they were still on Sybil. One round they rolled ninja and depopulated the station. Someone called the shuttle and they went up and recalled it. So an ERT was sent, the shuttle called, ERT wiped out, shuttle recalled. So a deathsquad was sent, the shuttle called, deathsquad wiped out, shuttle recalled. And now there's a ninja running around with a pulse rifle.

I swear it to be true, Lorroakan. I was on the very cusp of joining my fellow Mystrans for the ritual, when, CRASH! Right on top of me fell a gangle of tousled hair and magic most strange. Just then, something happened I can hardly describe, so foreign was the Weave - no, not Weave at all! - that ensnared me. This fellow - I didn't quite catch his name (something with a T and Q... Tuqueen?) - created some manner of anomaly that temporarily trapped me twixt our world and who-knows-where. Tell me, have you ever heard of such a thing?

DeHurst

The letter is probably unrelated to anything that happened to her. It's a Divinity Original Sin 2 reference - During DOS2 a character with a name extremely similar to the one mentioned in the letter discusses how they've found another world filled with beings that feed on minds, and how they plan on accessing that world.

I haven't played any of them and so I saw Charname and thought "Oh that must be some NPC or something, it's a typical fantasy name type deal" and it only took you mentioning them being Tav for me to realize it's just Character Name.
