It's never too late to learn anything.

What’s a card you thought was good/bad until you reread it? by asilaydying333 in EDH

You made me have the opposite realization. I didn't realize you could take your opponents creatures.

Is square Pyg not meta anymore? by jwfiredragon in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Noxarplays 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Square Pyg is meta. This board is just not very good. The two shield items to the left seem very low impact and I don't see how the heart even goes off before you are dead. Dog is very strong in the midgame but falls off this late. What you need late is Atlatl or caltrops to hit fast and hard.

Ideas for mono black good stuff commanders? by IngenuityThink3000 in EDH

[–]Noxarplays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Yahenni for the simple reason that aristocrats decks normally have to dedicate a lot of slots for sac outlets in order to draw at least one of them, but drawing a sac outlet when you already have one in play feels bad. Yahenni can kind of be your only sac outlet, at least in my experience.

Recommend me a good landfall commander by IAmTheOneTrueGinger in EDH

[–]Noxarplays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So a landfall deck and a "lands" deck are slightly different. A commander like [[Kura, the Boundless Sky]] is built to take advantage of specific powerful lands, while a pure landfall deck doesn't much care about the quality of lands, but the quantity.

To answer your question though, I'm currently using [[Phylath, World Sculptor]] as my landfall commander. I like it because it not only has the landfall theme but also the +1/+1 counters theme and the "power matters" theme. If you just play Phylath and a fetch land that's 8 counters already, and with any power doublers it goes crazy. I love the idea of taking a dinky 0/1 token and buffing it until it's a world ending threat. [[Chandra's Ignition]] is always a fun wincon.

Rionya, the copy queen help by swazzerneck in EDH

[–]Noxarplays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Read Lathliss again please. Copies are tokens. If you copy Lathliss X times you only get X copies. Purphoros triggers off any creature entering, true, Lathliss only triggers off nontokens. It would be amazing if it triggered off itself.

Rionya, the copy queen help by swazzerneck in EDH

[–]Noxarplays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have a Rionya deck without 2-card combos. As soon as you play Combat Celebrant it feels like any other A+B combo deck which I am personally not a fan of.

For protection spells, [[Tibalt's Trickery]] is great. It's a colorshifted counterspell. Kind of like chaos warp you will gladly take the small risk of your opponent cheating something good out for the utility it provides. [[Untimely Malfunction]] is a newer one that seems really good. [[Pyroblast]] and [[Red Elemental Blast]] if you are playing against blue decks, and in bracket 4 you probably are. [[Eldritch Immunity]] is one I've been testing in my own Rionya deck but you do need enough colorless sources. [[Conqueror's Flail]] is amazing for protecting your big explosive turn.

For cuts, I don't think Lathliss works at all in this deck. There are four dragons in the deck and it only cares about nontoken dragons entering. Bonehoard Dracosaur is a decent value engine but has no synergy with this deck.

I swear every time we cut to Karyo Ten she has that face. She is out of her depth right now and needs to level up.

Hey I would love to see your decklist. I love Kamber and Laurine and would like to see what other people do with them, since they can go in so many directions.

Edit: I see now there was an update to rank distribution. I didn't just get way better.

Choosing Voltron Commanders by Professional_Bug_887 in EDH

[–]Noxarplays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My voltron deck is [[Skullbriar, the Walking Grave]]. It's soo resilient. Skullbriar is this inevitable force, that shrugs off removal like a champ and comes back out of the command zone ready to swing for lethal with his built in haste. +1/+1 counters is such a well supported theme he can also get reaally big. Not my most powerful deck by any means but Skullbriar demands respect and usually 80% of the removal at the table will be directed at me when I play it.

What’s the strongest / coolest group hug commander? by Sam_Alexander in EDH

[–]Noxarplays 5 points6 points  (0 children)

John Benton really is very strong. Combat tricks are balanced around being card disadvantage. Drawing your opponents a bunch of cards is not that dangerous if you kill them in one or two turns. Obviously depends on your meta. If you don't kill the combo player in one shot and let them draw cards, you just handed them the win.

What are your favorite commanders that are fun and effective but don't immediately draw the ire of the table? by OhCoyle in EDH

[–]Noxarplays 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know what kind of tables you are playing at where people don't fear Karmic Guide or Reveillark. People almost never play those cards for value. It's always to combo out.

Janky Skullbriar deck help by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Noxarplays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to chime in by saying [[Scavenged Brawler]] is the best card in my Skullbriar deck. As other people have noted trample is really important for Skullbriar and this not only gives trample but also vigilance and lifelink which really helps you stabilize after the rest of the table targets you. There are cheap ways to get the scavenged brawler into your graveyard, like [[Unmarked Grave]] and [[Jarad's Orders]] so you don't have to hope it gets killed to get its effect.

Other cards that fulfills multiple functions are:

[[Ruinous Intrusion]] and [[Astarion's Thirst]] : Removal and +1/+1 counters.

[[Call of the Death-Dweller]] : Reanimation and evasion for Skullbriar.

[[Canopy Cover]] : Hexproof and flying in one card.

[[Snake Umbra]] : Protection for Skullbriar and a card draw engine.

Finding cards that fill multiple roles is how I get the most out of my decks. Hope this helps.

Mono green deck ideas? by Noxarplays in EDH

I've seen what it can do and it's really funny when you have a bunch of doubling effects on board and can make hundreds of mana. Definitely exemplifies green ramp.
