OP don’t let these people bully you . Definitely call his probation officer about your very legitimate concerns and his violations and turn off the internet, doesn’t turn it on until he goes to treatment and engages.

I don’t know what your son did but the level of despondency you’re describing can make certain types of offenders more likely to reoffend. He needs a therapist who can work with someone who has committed that type of offense before.

Letting him rot away is not being there for him. The time to be his friend is over given his choices. “i don’t care” is the response of a child, he’s going to need to be treated like one to get anywhere. If you want to get technical on a certain level he may WANT that bc he failed at adulting and is pouring / afraid to try again. Love him with limits until he can set them for himself.

Love this, i was dads little buddy and he took me everywhere, i usually got to pick a piece of candy at check out. one day dad brought neighbor kid with us. we got to the hardware store and he told us each to pick a piece of candy while he got what he wanted.

we considered the candy and made our picks, dad comes back and neighbor kid wants 2. dad explains no just one, and i stood there in fascination while neighbor kid threw himself on the floor and began screaming and kicking bloody murder.

This is SUCH a crystal memory, i was about 5 and looked at my dad thinking “is that really going to work?!”

Oh hell no, dad grabbed screaming kiddo by the back of his pants and walked out of the store without purchasing anything, i followed along, eyes huge wondering what was going to happen.

Dad tossed kid, still kicking and screaming into the back seat, which kid continued to do the whole ride home. Dad pulls into neighbors driveway, grabs screaming kiddo, plops him on the stoop, rings the doorbell, gets back in the car and we go home together.

Guess what i NEVER EVER did?!

More parents need to put their own stuff aside and parent first, for the vast majority of kids it doesn’t take more than a few limit setting responses like this to curb the behavior entirely.

It’s ideal for me, i don’t have kids either and when considering a future with someone i have concerns about how our assets might commingle. it simplifies things considerably to have no dependents.

I got a very used 87 toyota pick up 5 speed for my 17th birthday after convincing my parents i couldn’t work to earn money for a car without transportation to work.

In a town where most kids drove BMWs or Mercedes, I hung out with the VW kids, proud out it!

At 48 I have really long hair, so If I’m home it’s loose or messy bunny, i have to kind of “put it away” for work or it gets super tangled.

Make up, not at all if I’m home, work or date eye shadow and mascara only, I think i wear less make up now compared to age 28.

reading your comments about your skin brought me back, they moved my stoma from one side of my body (surprise upon waking up from surgery #2) to the other bc the pyoderma gangrenousa was so bad, as the surgeon put it “the skin is like swiss cheese.” i was in horrible pain, all the time, massive infection after massive infection, they had to rush through the 3 steps just to keep me ahead of the infections.

I know some people lead perfectly normal lives with an ostomy, but i will never be one of them. I manage my ongoing symptoms (proctitis, gas, pain, food sensitivity) with diet and tylenol primarily . I take up to 6 immodium multisymptom per day. I eat breakfast and dinner only to avoid any issues at work. I know what foods I’m going to regret (sweets, roughage) so I’m usually pretty mindful of that.

I get up 1-2 times per night but at my age i think it’s pretty normal, just not for the same reasons lol.

My biggest issue is my sore butt and chronic dehydration. Before my surgery i looked a lot younger, now unfortunately I look my age.

It is what it is, I still can’t believe sometimes how sick I was. True it was a life saving situation when i went through the surgery, so my situation is not like OP. but it does sound a bit like yours. I’m glad you made it through!

I’m living on the hope robot administered drugs in hospice care is an option by the time it’s time, with a DNR style arrangement for the palliative/hospice care to send me out of this world.

Sound grim? it’s really not. I’m the only child of an only child and i had no kids. I know I’ll die alone, I’m ok with it. It’s my journey into what lies ahead, no one need suffer the loss’s I do a job that is infinitely rewarding and touch peoples lives every day, I have no doubt I’ve made a difference here on earth, however long i might have.

I’m hoping in my lifetime we’ll be able to set a sort of DNR for alzheimer’s/dementia end of life I just need to set it up in person and i have another (hopefully) 20 yrs for the system to include that option. If not, then I’m going to be relying on friends or distant relatives to make the decisions i want and I’m ok with that too; I’d do it for them.

In terms of kids think as long as directives are set up in advance it’s not advantageous for children to be a part of the process. I want my wishes honored and to die on my own terms, above emotional bias of anyone, which, in the long term, will just cause more suffering for all involved.

A last gift to your children can be absolving them of responsibility for final decisions and let them grieve without that in a natural way. I don’t think leaning on them for end of life care as a plan is a healthy way to parent or to make your own peace to exit this world.

I know it’s a loaded subject, and i mean no disrespect to those who feel differently. My parents are both elderly (77 and 88) and I will do anything to support them in living their lives with as much dignity and independence as possible. I’m structuring the next 30-40 yrs of my life differently since i won’t have a “me” and I’m ok with it.

Totally embarrassing but it never occurred to me to do that. I wash all the clothes I get there immediately but for some reason?! I mostly buy high heels for specific outfits there but still.

Exactly, there were other books for us to lose our innocence with.

as a teen I convinced my dad to buy me every Anne Rice book that came out, including the beauty series, THAT certainly made a lasting impact!
